types of security functions for data protection. From the data protection viewpoint,
install the machine in an office with complete and appropriate security installations.
To ensure the best possible performance and effective use of the machine, read
this manual thoroughly before using the security functions. The Administrator of the
machine should keep this manual for ready reference. The manual should be of
great help in finding solutions to operating problems and questions.
1.2

When mounted with the optional Security Kit, the Di2010, Di2010f, Di2510, Di2510f,
Di3010, Di3010f, Di3510, or Di3510f machine offers even enhanced security
functions.
The security functions offered by the Di2010, Di2010f, Di2510, Di2510f, Di3010,
Di3010f, Di3510, or Di3510f machine comply with ISO/IEC15408 (level: EAL3).
1.3
Operating Precautions
The machine is designed to give an alarm message or an alarm beep for an
erroneous operation or an erroneous data entry made while the machine is being
operated. If an alarm message or an alarm beep is issued, follow the instructions

Security Functions
The machine can offer even enhanced security functions when it is mounted with
the optional Security Kit and the Access Lock function turned “ON.” The enhanced
security functions strengthens the authentication function and protects the Mail Box
files and Lock Job files. Access restrictions are provided for access to the Admin.
Management mode by means of the Administrator Code (Admin. Password)
authentication function.
When the Access Lock function is turned “ON,” PageScope Light causes a
password entry box to appear, letting a general user enter the password required
for acquiring a Mail Box file. The system counts the number of times access to the
Admin. Management mode, Mail Box, a Mail Box file, or a Lock Job file fails. When
the access failure count reaches a predetermined value, the system determines
that the access is illegal, locking the access. With the access in the locked state,
the unauthorized user is prevented from stealing or otherwise manipulating the
data. This provides even greater security for the use of the machine.
To unlock the access, the Administrator must perform the specified Unlock
procedures. The fact that the Administrator performs the Unlock procedures
implements maximum security of machine operations under the control of the
Administrator.
Conditions for Clearing the Access Failure Count
The access failure count in authentication taken through the Access Lock function
is cleared under the following conditions:
<Admin. Management Mode>
G
The machine is restarted.
G
The Access Lock function is turned “ON.”
G
Access to the Admin. Management mode is authenticated.
G
Access is authenticated for execution of change of Administrator Code.

Security Functions for the Administrator
2.1.1
Admin. Management mode authentication function
The system provides an authentication scheme for the Administrator as he or she
accesses the Admin. Management mode functions. It uses an Administrator Code
(Admin. Password) consisting of eight numbers assigned for each Administrator for
verification of his or her identify as the Administrator. During the authentication
process, the Administrator Code (Admin. Password) entered from the 10-Key Pad
is displayed as “✱.” If the Access Lock function is turned “ON,” the system counts
the number of times he or she fails in authentication. (The count is cleared as soon
as he or she is authenticated.) If authentication fails three times after the count has
been cleared under any of the access failure count clearing conditions (page 1-3),
the system determines that the access is illegal, locking the authentication function
for access to the Admin. Management mode for a fourth and subsequent one. To
unlock this access locked state, turn OFF the Power Switch of the machine and
then turn it ON again.
Accessing the Admin. Management Mode

When access to the Admin. Management mode is authenticated, the machine
allows the Administrator Code (Admin. Password) to be changed. To change the
Administrator Code (Admin. Password), the identity claimed to be the Administrator
is first verified using the 8-digit number that represents the Administrator Code
(Admin. Password). Then, a new 8-digit number (nothing is acceptable but an 8digit numeral) as the new Administrator Code (Admin. Password) is entered. To
prevent entry of a wrong number, the new Administrator Code (Admin. Password)
is entered a second time. When the second number matches the first one, the
Administrator Code (Admin. Password) is properly changed to the new one. the
Administrator Code (Admin. Password) entered from the 10-Key Pad is displayed
as “✱.” If the Access Lock function is active, however, the entry of a wrong number
during re-authentication is counted as unauthorized access. If a wrong number is
entered three times after the count value has been cleared under the conditions for
clearing the access failure count (page 1-3) and an access attempt is made a fourth
or subsequent time, authentication of access to the Admin. Management mode is
canceled and the machine locks the authentication function for accessing the
Admin. Management mode. To cancel this access locked state, turn OFF the Power
Switch of the machine and then turn it ON again.
If the Administrator as claimed by the person who accesses the Admin.
Management mode is authenticated, he or she is allowed to change the name and
password for the Mail Box. The Administrator can gain batch control over the setting
of Mail Boxes by using this function. To change the password, enter a new
password consisting of four or more digits (of alphanumeric characters and/or
symbols). (The password must consist of four or more digits; no password
consisting of less than four digits can be set.) Next, to prevent entry of a wrong
password, the new password is entered a second time. If the second password
matches the first one, the Mail Box password is now changed. The password
entered from the 10-Key Pad is displayed as “✱.”

Lock Job function
The Lock Job function allows a print job having a unique password set for it (called
the Lock Job) to be spooled in the machine for later use. To access a Lock Job file,
the user must go through an authentication procedure for verifying that he or she is
an authorized user of the Lock Job file using a unique password composed of a 4digit number. The password entered from the 10-Key Pad is displayed as “✱.” If the
Access Lock function is active, the number of authentication failures is counted.
(The count value is, however, cleared as soon as the user is authenticated.) If
authentication fails three times after the count value has been cleared under the
conditions for clearing the access failure count (page 1-3), the machine determines
that this is an unauthorized access. Then, the machine locks the authentication
function for any access attempt made a fourth or subsequent time to the Lock Job
file in question. To cancel this access locked state, the Unlock procedures must be
performed in the Admin. Management mode. Contact the Administrator for
executing the Unlock procedures. (If the Power Switch is turned OFF and then ON,
it deletes all Lock Job data. Make doubly sure that the Administrator performs the
Unlock procedures.)
Note
Any password consisting of less than four digits entered through the printer
driver on the PC side is not accepted. Enter a 4-digit password once again.

3.1 Security Functions for Users
Mail Box authentication function
This machine implements authentication for the use of the Mail Box by the general
user through the 4-or-more-digit password (alphanumeric characters and/or
symbols). The password entered is displayed as “✱.” If the Access Lock function is
active, the number of authentication failures is counted. (The count value is,
however, cleared as soon as the user is authenticated.) If authentication fails three
times after the count value has been cleared under the conditions for clearing the
access failure count (page 1-3), the machine determines that this is an
unauthorized access. Then, the machine locks the authentication function for any
access attempt made a fourth or subsequent time to the Mail Box in question. (This
function is called the Access Lock function.) To cancel this access locked state, the
Unlock procedures must be performed in the Admin. Management mode. Contact
the Administrator for executing the Unlock procedures.
For the Mail Box, for which access has been authenticated, the machine allows the
Mail Box data to be downloaded or the Mail Box name or password to be changed.
To change a Mail Box password, type a new password that should consist of four
or more alphanumeric characters and/or symbols. (The password should consist of
four or more digits, and never less.) Then, type the new password a second time
to prevent a wrong one from being set. When the password typed in a second time
matches that typed in first, the Mail Box password is changed. The password typed
in is displayed as “✱.” If the Access Lock function is active, the entry of a wrong
password during re-authentication is also counted as unauthorized access. If a
wrong password is entered three times after the count value has been cleared
under the conditions for clearing the access failure count (page 1-3), authentication
of access to the Mail Box is canceled and the machine locks the authentication
function for any access attempt made a fourth or subsequent time to the Mail Box.
To cancel this access locked state, the Unlock procedures must be performed in
the Admin. Management mode. Contact the Administrator for executing the Unlock
procedures.
Tip
All general users are allowed to create a Mail Box. For the detailed procedure
for creating a Mail Box, see User Manual for PageScope Light.
