Power-Up
Database Currency issues – AIM reference
NEED A CURRENT DATABASE FOR APPROACHES!
This means for use as DME or NDB replacement as well!
Not for En-Route or Terminal
Quicktune
Available on KLN-94 only – check SET-14
Flight Plans
FPL-0 is “special”
Display Options are: DIST, ETE, ETA, DTK
Cancel a Direct-To (D->, CLR, ENT) – Re-aligns with nearest FP segment
Locating Yourself – NAV-2 – Reference Position
NAV-4 – Map Page
On KLN-89 ONLY
CRSR to ‘>’ field, CLR – DTK, GS, ETE, X-TRK
On KLN-94 ONLY
Line 4 – TRK, BRG, RAD, GS
Line 5 – ETE, X-TRK, VNAV
Set Map Display
KLN-89 – NAV-4 – CRSR Menu? ENT
KLN-94 - SET-7 or MNU
De-clutter using the CLR button
Altitude Management
Alerting
Check setup on SET-9 (KLN-89) SET-13 (KLN-94)
ALTx1 – Set Baro.
ALTx2 – Set altitude for alerts
VNAV
ALTx2 – allows cross at altitude (+ is after fix)
LEG mode and OBS mode
LEG mode has normal sequencing
OBS mode – suspends sequencing, allows radial selection
Needed for procedures turns, vectors to final and holds.
Approach ARM and Active
CDI scaling normal +/- 5.0NM
ARM - +/- 1.0NM
ACTV - +/- 0.3NM
Changeover is normally automatic (within 30NM and 2NM of the FAF)
Normal operation from the NAV 4 page.
Will not sequence into the Missed Approach
AUX-4-11 (KLN-94) for trip planning – CAL and OTH on KLN-84
Loading an Approach (ACT 8 or APT 8 or PROC (KLN-94))
Selecting an IAF
Adds to FPL 0

The Missed Approach “fence”
Approach Types:
GPS/RNAV Approaches (T style approach)
Overlay Approaches (normally have procedure turns)
KLN-94 shows procedures turns and holds on map.
Flying an Approach
Normal Sequencing
Procedure Turn Interrupted Sequencing
Vectors to Final
KLN-94 – option on approach load instead of an IAF
DME Arc
Normal Sequencing
Just follow the sequencing.
Procedure Turn
Before arriving at the FAF (IAF) for the FIRST time – go to OBS mode
Use the OBS headings to navigate through the procedure turn
Before getting 2NM from the FAF for the SECOND time – return to LEG
mode.
Just follow the sequencing.
NOTE When the Navaid is ON the airport (i.e. no specific FAF fix) use D->
then D-> when setting the FAF as the active fix to avoid setting the course
as Direct to the FAF while in the Procedure Turn.
Vectors to Final
KLN-94 – if VTF loaded as IAF then OBS not needed
PROC to ACTIVATE VECTORS
Before reaching the FAF make the FAF the active waypoint (D-> then D->
makes it active but does NOT send you directly there)
Go to OBS mode – set to the Final Approach Course
Approaching 2NM from the FAF – return to LEF mode
Follow the sequencing.
DME Arc
Load the approach as normal, select the endpoint of the arc as the IAF.
NOTE – the GPS setsup the arc interception based on your current radial
from the defining navaid (VOR). Wait until close into the approach to
select the approach to avoid the interception waypoint being incorrectly
set.
Recomputing the ARC intercept?
From NAV 4 – pull out the inner knob, scan to the IAF.
OR from FPL 0 – CRSR to the IAF.
THEN press CLR
Hit ENT to recompute a new intercept
Hit CLR to forget it.
Once established on the ARC – NAV 4 has the 3 digit radial in the bottom
right of the screen.
