GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Software part numbers
The specific functions of this application are pre-set by Matrix Setup and State Machine.
The software part numbers are indicated on a label on the side of the CDP-01 housing.
They include the Matrix Setup No. ( MS ), the State Machine No. ( SM ) and the firmware
version ( Dx ).
The software part numbers differ depending on the version of the application (electrical
or hydraulic control of the rotating frame [web-compensating drive]):

GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Connecting the system components
The system components must be connected in accordance with the system diagram contained in
the documentation.
Description of the application
The sensors are positioned manually or automatically over the edge of the web. The web is
adjusted to the position of the sensor via the rotating frame. The material web can be shifted in
edge and center guiding configurations.
Scope of application: edge and center guiding configuration systems with moving sensors, shifting
web center point and internal or external control.

OVERVIEW OF FUNCTION
Operator control options
The CDP-01 signal amplifier can be operated from the control panel (internal control panel) or via
the parallel port with a remote control panel or a programmable logic controller (PLC, external
operation).
The following symbols are used for the various operator controls in the remainder of this
description:
Internal operation
External operation
Special features of external activation
The mode keys (Automatic, Servo-Center, Manual) on the
internal control panel are disabled.
Changing mode via external activation is only possible
when the SETUP function is deactivated on the internal
control panel.
In the ‘Manual - Rotating frame’ and ‘Manual - Sensor
positioner’ modes, the drive selector key is disabled or
locked.
When the remote control panel is removed the last mode
selected is retained until other settings are made on the
internal control panel.

Explanatory notes on the modes
LOCKOUT
Set lockout.
Note: ‘LOCKOUT’ mode can only be set via the parallel port.
’Lockout’
The rotating frame and the sensor positioner are locked.
Check: left and right LEDs of the LED bar
and LED for drive 1 ( CDP version -MMM ) or
LED for drive 2 ( CDP version -MHM ) flash.
Note: lockout is only effective in ‘AUTOMATIC’ mode.
MANUAL - Rotating frame
’Manual - Rotating
frame’
Press key 3, and if necessary, the drive selector key
until the LED for drive 1 ( CDP version -MMM ) or the LED
for drive 2 ( CDP version -MHM ) lights up or select
‘Manual-Rotating frame’ via external control.
The sensor positioner and the rotating frame are switched
to Manual.
Check: LED 3 lit
‘Right’
In this mode, Setup functions and various sensor modes
can be selected.
‘Left’
With the + or - key, or the ‘Left’ or ‘Right’ key, the position
of the rotating frame can be changed.
Note: with PLC activation, ‘Left-Rotating frame’
or ‘Right-Rotating frame’ mode must be set.

AUTOMATIC- Edge guiding
Configuration with manual web
edge search
Prerequisite for manual web edge search: the system
must be in the ‘Manual - Rotating frame’ or ‘Manual Sensor positioner’ mode.
’Automatic’
Press key 1 or select ‘Automatic’.
The rotating frame is set to ‘Automatic mode’. The sensor
positioner remains in the ‘Manual mode’.
Check: LED 1 and the LED for drive 1 ( CDP version -MMM )
or the LED for drive 2 ( CDP version -MHM ) lit.
‘Right’
Position the sensor with the + or - key or with the ‘Right’
key.
Note: with PLC activation, ‘Automatic - Left web displacement’ or
‘Automatic - Right web displacement’ must be set.
‘Left’
The sensor position can be corrected at any time.
The sensor zero point and the system gain (control
sensitivity) of the rotating frame can be changed.

AUTOMATIC- Edge guiding
Configuration with automatic
web edge search
Prerequisite for automatic web edge search: the system
must be in the ‘Servo-center’ mode.
Press key 1 or select ‘Automatic’.
’Automatic’
The sensor is automatically positioned over the edge of
the web.
Check: LED 1 and the LED drive 2 ( CDP version -MMM ) or
the LED for drive 1 ( CDP version -MH-M ) lit.
The rotating frame is enabled after the edge of the web
has been found.
Check: LED for drive 1 ( CDP version -MMM ) or
LED for drive 2 ( CDP version -MHM ) lit.
The system adjusts the edge of the material web to the
sensor position.
‘Right’
‘Left’
With the + or - key or the 'Left' or 'Right' key, the position
of the material web can be changed.
Note: with PLC activation, ‘Automatic - Left web displacement’ or
‘Automatic - Right web displacement’ must be set.
The sensor zero point and the system gain (control
sensitivity) of the rotating frame can be changed.

AUTOMATIC- Center guiding
configuration
Press key 1 or select Automatic.
’Automatic’
The sensors search for the edge of the web.
Check: LED 1 and the LED for drive 1 ( CDP version -MMM ) or
the LED for drive 2 ( CDP version -MHM ) lit.
During the edge search, the rotating frame is in the
‘Automatic’ mode. The ASC function ( Autolock function )
is activated.
Check: LED 7 and the two outer LEDs of the LED bar flash.
When one of the sensors finds the web, the rotating
frame is enabled and the web is slaved until the second
sensor has found the opposite edge of the web.
Note: LED 7 lights up constantly, while the outer LEDs of
the LED bar no longer flash.
The sensor positioner and the rotating frame are in the
Automatic mode. The sensors adapt to a fluctuating web
width.
If the search detects no web, or if the web tears during
guiding, the sensors reach their inner extreme position.
The system switches to ‘Servo-center’ mode.
Note: the error must be acknowledged by selecting the
‘Servo-center’ mode.
‘Right’
‘Left’
With the + or - key or the 'Left' or 'Right' key, the position
of the web can be changed in the sensor field of vision.
Note: with PLC activation, ‘Automatic - Left web displacement’ or
‘Automatic - Right web displacement’ must be set.
The sensor zero point and the system gain (control
sensitivity) of the rotating frame can be changed.

SERVO - CENTER
’Servo - center’
Press key 2 or select Servo-center.
The sensors move to their parking position. The rotating
frame moves to the center position.
Check: LED 2 lit
The sensor mode can be changed in this mode of
operation.
Sensor selection - Sensor indicator
A sensor can be selected in the ‘Manual - Rotating frame’ or ‘Manual - Sensor positioner’ or the
‘Servo-center’ mode, regardless of the displayed drive.
Press the sensor key until the required sensor mode is
indicated.
The following sensor modes are allowed:
Left edge guiding configuration
Right edge guiding configuration
Center guiding configuration
If required, the sensor modes ‘Line guiding configuration’, ‘Line edge guiding configuration’ or
‘combined line guiding configuration’ can be enabled.

Note: Sensor enabling must apply to both drives.
In the ‘Automatic’ mode and the line guiding configuration sensor modes, the edge sensors move
to their outer position. The system adjusts the web to the line sensor position.

TROUBLESHOOTING
The reason for incorrect or undesired guidance is often an incorrect setting on the CDP-01. The
chapter entitled 'Frequent setting errors' in the CDP-01 operating manual describes faults and
procedures for rectifying them in more detail. Application-specific faults are outlined below.
Fault diagnosis - Fault rectification
Fault: The the sensors move in the wrong direction during the web edge search.
Remedy: Select ‘Manual - Sensor positioner’ and change the polarity (guide direction) for the
corresponding sensor mode. Cross-reference: CDP-01 Operating Manual, Chapter entitled:
Changing the guide direction.
Fault: The rotating frame moves in the wrong direction in Automatic mode.
Remedy: Select ‘Manual - rotating frame’ and change the polarity (guide direction) for the
corresponding sensor mode. Cross-reference: CDP-01 Operating Manual, Chapter entitled:
Changing the guide direction.
