INTRODUCTION
The underfloor heating system is compromised of three components:
1. The heat source (typically a boiler)
2. Distribution of the water into the floor circuit using a manifold
3. The control of these circuits using thermostats.
The heat source produces warm water that is turn circulated though the primary
circuit to the manifold. Conventional boilers produce water at a temperature much
greater than that needed by an underfloor heating system and as a consequence
the manifold must use a water mixing valve to reduce the water to a useful
temperature, typically 40°C to 55°C. The mixed water is then circulated through
the manifold by the secondary circulator and distributed into the underfloor
heating circuits.
As each room becomes cold so the corresponding thermostats will switch on. Each
thermostat is connected via a wiring centre to a zone valve or actuator.
As a thermostat “calls for heat” so two volt-free terminals on the wiring centre
close.
One completing the circuit to fire the boiler and one enabling the live supply to the
circulator. The actuator for the appropriate circuit will open allowing warm water to
flow into that circuit warming up the floor. When the room is warmed up to
temperature and the set point is reached, say 20°C, the thermostat will switch off,
closing the actuator. When all the thermostats have switched off or stopped
“calling for heat” the wiring centre switches off the secondary circulator on the
manifold and stops firing the boiler.
Sensor Network Wiring Detail
The Room Sensor network consists of 4 conductors in a screened cable. There are two twisted pairs of
low voltage wires; power conductors; black -ve and red +ve and data yellow b- and white b+. The
network is terminated by connecting a link wire between e and b-, it will not work without this. A link is
also inserted between C2 (i - f) which is the other end of the network. Links are not fitted to the
intermediate sensors.
Connect the screen at one end of the cable to terminal C2 -ve to drain away induced noise.

Control Hub Network Wiring Detail
The Control Hub network obeys the same rule, the link is fitted to the Outdoor Sensor and to the
last Wiring Centre. The control Hub is always located between the Wiring Centres or Wiring Centre
and the Outdoor Sensor.
The screen should be connected to C3 -ve at one end only to drain away any induced noise. Use a
cable stripper to remove the insulation on the conductors to avoid nicks in the wire which will lead to
breaks and system failure.

Up to 8 Room Sensors can be connected to each Wiring Centre via the network BUS cable. Terminate the last Room Sensor with a link between C2: e & b- and the Wiring Centre at C2: I & f.
Wired and wireless Room Sensors can be connected on the same Wiring Centre, make the Access Point the first sensor on the network.
Control Hub is connected between wiring centres or outdoor sensor - not at the end of the Network.
Add a link in the Outdoor Sensor between C4: b- & e
BUS cables MUST be wired in a daisy chain, do not wire radially.
Connect the screen wire to the negative terminal (black wire) at one end only of each section.
