Compass 2.0 Installation Guide
NOTE: You can migrate the MSDE accounts to SQL Express or SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 using the database management utility (DMU).
By using the database management utility, you can generate a backup of the MSDE database and restore it to a SQL Express database. If you remove the MSDE Database before backing up and restoring, the existing database is lost.
Connect and upgrade existing SQL Server/SQL Express Compass database to the latest Compass 2.0 database.
The Compass 2.0 installations are of two types: standalone or server and client installation.
NOTE:
You cannot run two types of installation at the same time.
The Compass 2.0 installation normally does not require the computer to be rebooted. However, in scenarios where some files are in use, the setup displays a message asking you to reboot the computer.
The Compass 2.0 Installation, the first base installation was version2.0.9.x. The versions 2.0.10.x and higher are upgrades. The upgrades can be a fresh installation, or an upgrade to the existing 2.0.9.x base installation. The next base is 2.0.14 x. The revisions coming after this will be upgrade.
Ensure that no other software installations or updates are being run simultaneously when you begin

Sometimes, migration of Access Database might fail in compass. The system may throw the following error: “Could not obtain exclusive lock on database ‘model’. Retry the operation later
The Compass 2.0 Client installations cannot connect to Compass MS
SQL Server.
Workaround: Restart SQL Service in the PC and then proceed with the migration
This normally happens when the SQL

When MS ACCESS Database accounts are migrated to SQL Express, you will see default panel names without any personality disc.
During Installation and Un-installation of Compass or Commander the following to be kept in mind to avoid unpredictable results.
Run the appropriate personality disc to see specific company panel type.
On MS Vista OS & MS Windows 7 OS the personality disk application should be launched by right clicking on icon and selecting “Run as Administrator”.
1. Do not run the installation setup of
Commander and Compass 2.0 together on the same PC at same time.
2. If you are using any other Honeywell software such as Commander, then close all those applications before starting Compass 2.0 installation or uninstallation.

The Disk full error message is displayed when migrating from the legacy Compass to access database.
This Disk full error is displayed when
Access Database is placed in Windows
System Drive having less than required free space. For example, when Access
Database size is 100 KB, at least 250
KB of free disk space must be available.
It is observed that in certain cases in MS Windows 7 Operating
System, the MS Access to MS SQL migration fails, if the Compass
1.5.8.X MS Access database file is placed on the desktop.
Place the Compass 1.5.8.X MS Access database in local folder on drive (for example, ‘C:\CompasDB’) other than
Desktop folder, as Windows 7 users require special privileges to access
“…\Documents and
Settings\...\Desktop” folder.

Issue Work-Around
Access to SQL database migration fails if the Source Access data base has accounts containing long string in Notes field.
Maximum number of letters in Notes must be less than 8000 characters. To resolve this issue, search for all accounts having long notes and reduce the length to less than 8000 characters.
If you get the below error while migrating the Database, Restart SQL Service in the PC and then proceed with the database migration.
System throws error message Error:1335 message while installation is in progress. This may occur in Operating Systems
Windows 7 64 bit version.
Before stating the installation, it is recommended that you copy the setup to your local computer.

The minimum system requirements are a 256 MB processor, 1 GB of free disk space, an 800x600 monitor resolution, and a version 5.5 or above of Microsoft Internet Explorer. You will also need a database engine like MS SQL Express, MS SQL Server 2000, or MS SQL Server 2005. For a recommended configuration, you should have a 512 MB processor and more than 1 GB of free disk space.
Compass 2.0 offers two installation types: Standalone or Server and Client. In Standalone or Server installation, the database and application are installed on the same computer. In Client installation, the database is on a separate server, and the application is installed on a client computer.
You can remove Compass 2.0 using either the Start menu or the Control Panel. From the Start menu, go to Start > All Programs > Compass Windows Downloader > Uninstall. From the Control Panel, go to Add or Remove Programs and select Compass 2.0, then click Remove. It is important to note that you should not delete the Compass folder from the computer as this could corrupt the registry.
