Legislators passed strict targets requiring carmakers to reduce CO2 emissions
to 130g/km by 2015 and 95g/km by 2021, representing a 40% reduction
from the 2007 fleet average. These ambitious targets forced manufacturers

Vibration Resistant
The hot melt renders the battery even more vibration resistant, because it saves the
connectors from breaking. Additional connector fixations hold connectors and plates securely
in place. Vibration resistance is even more enhanced – even on rough road conditions.

EFB Technology Features
Scrim is an additional polyester element between plate and separator. The scrim holds
the active material in place inside the plate and avoids the erosion of mass. The result:
enhanced deep cycle resistance and superior charge acceptance.
The glued fleece helps that the plates keep their proper position at all times and in every

The acid circulator avoids acid stratification. It’s a construction element that uses the natural

Powermax wet lead acid 12 Volt batteries are ideally suited for ride on mowers, small tractors and other garden
machinery. Capacities range from 14Ah to 36Ah, catering for a wide range of applications.
Our most common batteries, the 895 and 895R, now have calcium added to their plates. This addition reduces
water loss through charging, so both types are now sealed and maintenance free. The charge retention is also

Victron Lithium-Ion Batteries
The market for battery systems is developing rapidly. There is a growing demand for efficient
batteries with a large energy density. Victron Energy has a suitable response for this demand:
the Victron Lithium-ion battery system. This is comprised of a very modern battery with an
advanced control- and security system; the so-called Battery Management System (BMS). The
BMS controls the charging and discharging, immediately takes action when certain (critical)
values are exceeded and safeguards an efficient energy-transfer.
Why lithium-iron phosphate?
Lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP) is the safest of the mainstream li-ion battery types.
The nominal voltage of a LFP cell is 3.2V (lead-acid: 2V/cell). A 12.8V LFP battery therefore
consists of 4 cells connected in series; and a 25.6V battery consists of 8 cells connected in
series.
Efficient
Rugged
In several applications (especially off-grid solar and/or wind), energy efficiency can
be of crucial importance.
A lead-acid battery will fail prematurely due to sulphation if:
The round trip energy efficiency (discharge from 100% to 0% and back to 100%
charged) of the average lead acid battery is 80%.
The round trip energy efficiency of a LFP battery is 92%.
The charge process of lead-acid batteries becomes particularly inefficient when
the 80% state of charge has been reached, resulting in efficiencies of 50% or
even less in solar systems where several days of reserve energy is required
(battery operating in 70% to 100% charged state).
• If it operates in deficit mode during long periods of time (i. e. if the battery is
rarely, or never at all, fully charged).
• If it is left partially charged or worse, fully discharged (yacht or mobile home
during winter time).
A LFP battery does not need to be fully charged. Service life even slightly improves
in case of partial charge instead of a full charge. This is a major advantage of LFP
compared to lead-acid.
In contrast, a LFP battery will still achieve 90% efficiency under shallow discharge
conditions.

24V 180Ah Lithium-Ion Batteries
The base of the Victron Lithium-ion battery system is formed by individual 24V/180Ah
Lithium-ion batteries.
They have a built-in Cell Management System (BMS) which protects the battery on a cell
level. It monitors individual cell voltage and system temperature, and actively balances the
individual cells. All measured parameters are sent to the Lynx Ion which monitors the system
as a whole.
The advantages of the Victron Lynx Lithium-ion battery system
1. The Victron Lithium-ion battery system is easy to install due to its modularity. No
complicated wiring diagrams are required.
2. Detailed information is available on the waterproof Ion Control display.
3. The 350A relay in the Lynx Ion provides maximum safety: in case the chargers or loads
do not listen to the commands from the Lynx Ion, the main safety relay will open to
prevent permanent damage to the batteries.
4. For typical marine installations there is an extra smaller output, so you can still power
the bilge pump and disconnect all other house loads by opening the 350A relay.

• Adaptive 6-Stage Charge Algorithm: Test - Bulk – Absorption - Recondition – Float – Storage. The Blue
Power charger features a microprocessor controlled ‘adaptive’ battery management. The adaptive
feature will automatically optimise the charging process relative to the way the battery is being used.
• Storage Mode: Less Maintenance And Ageing When The Battery Is Not In Use - The storage mode
kicks in whenever the battery has not been subjected to discharge during 24 hours. In the storage
mode float voltage is reduced to 2.2V/cell (13.2V for a 12V battery) to minimize gassing and corrosion
of the positive plates. Once a week the voltage is raised back to the absorption level to ‘equalize’ the
battery. This feature prevents stratification of the electrolyte and sulphation, a major cause of early
battery failure. Also charges Li-ion (LiFePO₄) batteries LiFePO₄ batteries are charged with a simple
bulk – absorption – float algorithm.
• Night And Low Setting - When in NIGHT or LOW mode, the output current is reduced to max. 25% of
the nominal output and the charger will be totally silent. The NIGHT mode automatically ends after 8
hours. The LOW mode can be ended manually.
• Protected Against Overheating - Output current will reduce as temperature increases up to 50°C, but
the Blue Power charger will not fail.

Completely encapsulated: waterproof, shockproof and ignition protected
Water, oil or dirt will not damage the Blue Power IP67 charger. The casing is made of
cast aluminium and the electronics are moulded in resin.
Start interrupt
The models with suffix (1+Si) feature a second current limited output which is always
powered as long as 180 – 265 VAC is present on the input. This output can for
example be used to prevent starting of a vehicle before unplugging the battery charger
(start interrupt function).
The highest efficiency ever!
Setting a new industry standard: with 92% efficiency or better, these chargers waste
three to four times less heat. And once the battery is fully charged, power consumption
reduces to less than a Watt, some five to ten times better than the industry standard.

Phoenix Battery Chargers
• Adaptive 4-stage charge characteristic: bulk – absorption – float – storage. The Phoenix charger features a
microprocessor controlled ‘adaptive’ battery management system that can be preset to suit different types of batteries.
.
• When only shallow discharges occur (a yacht connected to shore power for example) the absorption time is kept short in
order to prevent overcharging of the battery. After a deep discharge the absorption time is automatically increased to make
sure that the battery is completely recharged.
• If, in order to quickly charge a battery, a high charge current in combination with a high absorption voltage has been
chosen, the Phoenix charger will prevent damage due to excessive gassing by automatically limiting the rate of voltage
increase once the gassing voltage has been reached
• The storage mode kicks in whenever the battery has not been subjected to discharge during 24 hours. In the storage mode float voltage is reduced to 2,2 V/cell
(13.2 V for 12 V battery) to minimise gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week the voltage is raised back to the absorption level to ‘equalize’ the
battery. This feature prevents stratification of the electrolyte and sulphation, a major cause of early battery failure.
• Every Phoenix charger comes with a battery temperature sensor. When connected, charge voltage will automatically decrease with increasing battery temperature.
This feature is especially recommended for sealed batteries and/or when fluctuations of battery temperature are expected.
• Battery voltage sense - In order to compensate for voltage loss due to cable resistance, Phoenix chargers are provided with a voltage sense facility so that the
battery always receives the correct charge voltage.

Features
Every TG charger is microprocessor controlled and rapidly charges your battery in three stages. As a result of
the stabilized output voltage, TG chargers can be used as a power supply even if no batteries are present. They
come with two independent outputs. The second is limited to 4A and intended for topping up your start battery.

Skylla-i (1+1): two outputs to charge 2 battery banks
The Skylla-i (1+1) features 2 isolated outputs. The second output, limited to approximately 4 A
and with a slightly lower output voltage, is intended to top up a starter battery.
Skylla-i (3): three full current outputs to charge 3 battery banks
The Skylla-i (3) features 3 isolated outputs. All outputs can supply the full rated output current.

Developed for professional duty, the Phoenix range of inverters is suitable for the widest range of applications.
The design criteria have been to produce a true sine wave inverter with optimized efficiency but without
compromise in performance. Employing hybrid HF technology, the result is atop quality product with compact
dimensions, light in weight and capable of supplying power, problem-free, to any load.
Proven reliability
The full bridge plus toroidal transformer topology has proven its reliability over many years. The inverters are
short circuit proof and protected against overheating, whether due to overload or high ambient temperature.
High start-up power
Needed to start loads such as power converters for LED lamps, halogen lamps or electric tools.
ECO mode
When in ECO mode, the inverter will switch to standby when the load decreases below a preset value. Once in
standby the inverter will switch on for a short period (adjustable, default: every 2.5 seconds). If the load exceeds
a preset level, the inverter will remain on.
Remote on/off
A remote on/off switch can be connected to a two pole connector, or between battery plus and the left hand
contact of the two pole connector.
VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle
Using the VE.Direct to Bluetooth Smart dongle you can display information on iOS and Android devices, using the
VictronConnect app. View information wirelessly such as battery status and solar panel power, plus other useful

The MultiPlus inverter charger, often called a “Combi Unit” combines a pure sinewave inverter, intelligent battery
charger and automatic transfer switch in one compact enclosure.
• UPS capability
A Combi unit provides many benefits over individual units. In the event of a loss of mains/shore power the inverter
will be automatically activated to continue supply to the connected loads. The MultiPlus can also boost weak
mains/shore power supplies with PowerAssist. This can be used to supplement the mains/shore power during

The EasyPlus is a multifunctional energy system consisting of a powerful sinewave inverter, a sophisticated battery charger,
a high speed AC transfer switch and AC distribution in a single light weight and compact enclosure. The system has been
designed for those who want to enjoy the comfort and freedom of a complete energy system without spending time on the
installation of separate components and difficult technical procedures.

All-in-one solar power solution
The EasySolar combines a MPPT solar charge controller, an inverter/charger and AC distribution in one enclosure.
The product is easy to install, with a minimum of wiring.
The solar charge controller: Blue Solar MPPT 100/50
Up to three strings of PV panels can be connected with three sets of MC4 (PV-ST01) PV connectors.
The inverter/charger: MultiPlus Compact 12/1600/70 or 24/1600/40
The MPPT charge controller and the MultiPlus Compact inverter/charger share the DC battery cables (included).
The batteries can be charged with solar power (BlueSolar MPPT) and/or with AC power (inverter/charger) from the
utility grid or a genset.
ECOmulti 24V
The ECOmulti can be wall mounted, is easy to install, easy to program and easy to operate. With 2.3 kWh Li-ion
storage capacity and a 3 kVA bidirectional inverter, the ECOmulti reduces dependence on power from the grid.
Nighttime
During the night the ECOmulti is disconnected from the grid. The home is powered by energy stored in the battery.
Battery charging
The ECOmulti will regulate charge current to absorb nearly 100% of the surplus PV power.
Discharging during the day
Insufficient PV power will be supplemented by power from the ECOmulti.
Battery fully charged
Once the battery is fully charged, additional loads (for example the water heater) can be switched on, or surplus
power will be exported to the grid.
End of the day
The ECOmulti disconnects from the grid about 10 minutes after PV power has become insufficient to provide any
charge current.

Quattro
Features:
The Quattro from Victron offers the same great features as the MultiPlus but goes one step further as it has TWO AC inputs
and TWO AC outputs. This allows you to connect two AC sources such as shore power and a generator. The Quattro will
automatically connect to the active source. With TWO independent outputs critical loads are protected in the event of gird
failure as they will continue to be powered by the inverter. The second output is only live when AC is available at the input. That
way, large loads such as air conditioning will never discharge the batteries.

The BMV-700 is Victron’s newest high precision battery monitor. The essential
function of a battery monitor is to calculate ampere-hours consumed and the state

Skylla-i Control GX
This panel is intended for Phoenix inverters equipped
with a UTP remote monitoring and control socket. It

is desired. The brightness of the LEDs is automatically
reduced during night time.
The Battery Alarm is a small and low cost
alarm panel which monitors your battery bank.
It features both audible and visual alarms, as
well as a potential free contact with normally
open and normally closed contacts. Alarm
thresholds and hysteresis are programmable by
dipswitches.
The Skylla Control allows you to alter the charge
current and see the system status.

Argo Diode Battery Isolators
Battery isolators allow simultaneous charging of two or more batteries from one alternator, without connecting the batteries
together. Discharging the accessory battery for example will not result in also discharging the starter battery. The Argo battery
isolators feature a low voltage drop thanks to the use of Schottky diodes: at low current the voltage drop is approximately 0,3
V and at the rated output approximately 0,45 V. All models are fitted with a compensation diode that can be used to slightly
increase the output voltage of the alternator. This compensates for the voltage drop over the diodes in the isolator.

The Cyrix-ct battery combiner is a microprocessor controlled heavy duty relay that automatically connects
batteries in parallel when one of them has reached a preset voltage (indicating that the battery is being
charged), and disconnects when the voltage decreases below float level (indicating that one or more batteries
are being discharged). Cyrix-ct battery combiners are an excellent replacement for diode isolators. The main
feature is that there is virtually no voltage loss so that the output voltage of alternators or battery chargers does
not need to be increased.

Orion DC-DC Converters
An ever increasing amount of electrical equipment is now being used in mobile applications. Most equipment has been designed for 12Vdc and therefore requires a DCDC Converter to reduce the voltage from 24Vdc to 12Vdc. Some very sensitive equipment needs a stable 12V output so we can provide 12V-12V converters to ensure a
constant voltage no matter if the battery is charged or discharged.
All models with adjustable output can be used as a battery charger. For example to charge a 12V starter or accessory battery in an otherwise 24V system. They can also
be paralleled to increase output current, with the connection of a possible five units.

Solar Energy
Photovoltaics (PV), more commonly known as Solar Power is a method
of generating electrical power by converting solar radiation into direct
current electricity. Solar power is generated by solar panels. They are
composed of a number of solar cells containing a photovoltaic material.
The most common material presently used for photovoltaics are
Monocrystalline silicon and polycrystalline silicon.
Solar panels can be subdivided by the type of construction used to
house the solar cells. Here at Barden we offer three different options
depending on the type of applications and installation required.
Rigid Glass Solar Panels
Available in both Mono & Polycrystalline, these panels are made using a sturdy
Aluminium frame that allows them to be easily mounted.
The cells are encapsulated between a sheet of high transmission tempered glass, which
provides enhanced stiffness and impact resistance, and a triple layer EVA back sheet.
Semi Flexible Solar Panels
Solara M series solar panels are specifically designed for use on boats, life rafts and
many other mobile applications.
The cells are laid on a steel back plate which is then powder coated and fully
encapsulated to protect against the harsh marine environment.
The unique dimpled surface offers the dual benefits of a prismatic effect, refracting
the light onto the cell and also acts as a non-slip surface.
Flexible Solar Panels
SolbianFlex Solar Light series are made with Monocrystalline cells with an efficiency
greater than 16.5%.The cells are imbedded in polymers with high resilience
technology. They weigh 1/8 of a traditional glass panel and can be walked upon.
For those requiring maximum power the Sun Power series uses Monocrystalline cells
with an efficiency higher than 22.5% and back contact cell connectors

They are manufactured using high efficiency solar cells. Their textured surface reduces sunlight
reflections and increases the yield. The panels have a robust, salt water resistant aluminium frame which

Solar Charge Controllers
Victron Controllers
The main function of a regulator is to charge batteries by regulating the charge current to the battery without
allowing it to be overcharged. It also prevents current from being drawn back out of the battery at night. Some
controllers may also have a low voltage disconnect, which powers down the load when the batteries become overly
discharged.
Victron’s standard range of PWM controllers are available in 5, 10 or 20A and suitable for 12/24V systems. They all feature an internal temperature sensor and three
stage charging. They are also protected against over current, short circuit and reverse polarity.
The Duo has all the same features as the standard PWM but can charge 2 separate battery banks at the same time and features programmable charge current ratio and
charge voltage settings for Gel, AGM and Flooded.

Remote Panels

• Audible alarm - The audible failure alarm can be activated or deactivated.
• Communication LED - Indicates communication status when the display is

Victron MPPT Controllers
Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is a technique solar charger controllers use to get the maximum
possible power from one or more solar panels. Solar cells have a complex relationship between solar irradiation,
temperature and total resistance that produces a non-linear output efficiency which can be analysed based on the
I-V curve. It is the purpose of the MPPT system to sample the output of the cells and apply the proper resistance
(load) to obtain maximum power for any given environmental conditions.

The Add-A-Battery includes a Dual Circuit Plus™ Battery Switch and an Automatic
Charging Relay. These components simplify switching and automate charging,
so that all you have to do is turn the battery switch ON when you board and

dead battery by isolating the start battery from the house loads that can quickly
discharge a battery. The Add-A-Battery offers a simple way to control switching

Automatic Charging Relays
In a boat or vehicle with two battery banks, it is useful to be able to charge both banks while underway. Charge management
devices allow two battery banks to be charged from a single source, such as an alternator, but keep batteries isolated when not
charging. If one battery becomes depleted, there will be a charged bank available for emergency starting. Automatic Charging
Relays (ACR) use a relay combined with a voltage sensing circuit. When a charge is being applied to a battery and the voltage
rises over 13V DC, the relay closes and combines the two batteries. When the
charge is taken away or the load on the battery is greater than the charging
input causing the voltage to drop to 12.75V DC, the relay opens and isolates
the two batteries.

The Vessel Systems Monitor VSM 422 performs comprehensive monitoring offour
boat systems in one compact meter, saving space and money.
By monitoring DC (including battery state of charge), AC, tanks, and bilge pump,
the VSM 422 alerts boaters to problems before they become emergencies. The
ability to monitor state of charge is critical to safe boating. By using a complex
calculation of voltage, amperage, and amp-hours remaining, the VSM 422 is able
to provide accurate and timely information about state of charge on the house
battery to help boaters know when it’s time to recharge.

The VSM 422 also monitors temperature on the primary battery with the included
Battery Temperature Sensor. AC monitoring includes voltage, amperage, wattage,
and frequency. Tank monitoring for up to three tanks includes alarm functions for
high and low levels, and bilge pump monitoring includes pump active, cycle count,
and duration. With its user-friendly interface, intuitive display modes, and versatile
case design, the Vessel Systems Monitor VSM 422 is an excellent replacement for
four separate system monitors.

Health & Safety
If treated with care and taking the proper precautions, batteries can be handled safely with the minimum of risk.
The purpose of this guide is: 1) Indicate the main hazards that may arise
2) Outline the precautions to be taken to minimise such hazards
3) Indicate the emergency actions to be taken in the event of the occurrence of a
hazard
HANDLING PROCEDURES
Always wear acid resistant clothing, goggles, PVC gloves and rubber boots- especially where there is a risk of splashing. Keep batteries upright and only top
up cells of batteries with removable vent plugs with distilled water - do not overfill. Always have plenty of water available in case of acid spillage.
STORAGE PROCEDURES
Keep batteries clean and always store in a cool, dry place. Where acid is stored or handled good ventilation is essential.
SPILLAGE PROCEDURES
Wash down small spillages immediately wearing protective clothing. Use plenty of water and direct the jet to the outside of the spillage, working your way
inwards to the centre. Larger spillages should be contained with soda ash, sand or earth and finally washed down with water once absorbed.
DISPOSAL PROCEDURE
Once neutralised, the contaminated material should be swept up and taken to a suitable disposal site, provided by the local authority. Batteries must never be
disposed of in household waste.
CHARGING PROCEDURES
During charging batteries emit highly flammable hydrogen gas. The charger must always be switched off when connecting or disconnecting. Electrolyte levels
must also be checked where appropriate before, during and after charging to ensure the plates are covered – top up with distilled water if necessary.
FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARD
Sulphuric acid in contact with metals generates hydrogen, which forms an explosive mixture with air. If a battery is short circuited, a very high current flows and
this can also cause fire through sparks and molten metal.
TO AVOID THESE HAZARDS
Display notices forbidding smoking and naked lights anywhere near batteries. Remove all loose metallic objects and jewellery before handling batteries. Always
use insulated tools and never leave metal objects near batteries. Never attempt to repair a battery!
FIRST AID
Sulphuric acid is a corrosive and poison liquid, in case of accident immediate steps should be taken.
Skin contact – Remove contaminated clothing and soak the affected area with copious amounts of water, seek medical attention if irritation persists
Eye contact – Wash out the eye with plenty of clean running water for at least 10 minutes, seek medical attention.
Ingestion – Immediately drink as much water as possible, do NOT induce vomiting, seek urgent medical attention.
