Beyond the limits of Lens Edger Standards
Automatic 3D Drilling
The ME-1000 series offers drilling with flexible 3D adjustment, providing high
precision and accuracy. Each system can easily drill combination holes such as
parallel twin holes, hole & notch, counterbored holes, etc. By simply
coordinating the hole placement, the ME-1000 series automatically calculates
the best drilling angle and creates the desired holes to perfection, thus
eliminates unnecessary pressure on frame and lens. This highly technological
solution offers the ability to use multiple settings for any hole angle,
providing both high performance and versatility to meet all customer desires.
3D Grooving
With the 3D tilt control, the ME-1000 series provides precise and highly
steady grooving for the entire lens circumference whether a flat or high
base curve lens. In guided mode, the position, depth and width of the
groove may be adjusted to suit the frame.
Using the newly integrated "Partial Grooving"* option, a more flexible
processing is now also possible.

Safety Beveling
The amount of safety bevel can be manually selected from Large, Medium,
Small and "Special". The "Special" safety beveling allows high minus power
lenses to have a cosmetically thinner look achieved by increasing the lens
chamfer to the rear temporal side of the lens. The ME-1000 series also has
the ability to polish the safety bevel, ensuring no dull edges visible to your
rimless lens. "Special" safety bevel polish is also possible.
NIDEK's Multifunction Edging system ME-1000 series can not only edge lenses but with advanced technology
can polish, groove, drill and apply a safety bevel to the highest of industry standards. This latest addition to
the family of edging systems offers advanced functionality for creating an elaborate
design lens of the highest quality. With a user-friendly LCD touch panel,
the ME-1000 series allows operators to achieve accurate, reliable and
flexible performance with a more simple and easier operation.
The ME-1000 series is a truly outstanding lens edging system that
offers everything you need not only for retail edging but also
for large-scale optical laboratories.
Color-coded Lens Identification
The R / L color-coding system, adapted from navigational
light colors, helps operators to correctly identify
right and left lenses in combination with the
use of red and green cups.
Extended Lens Type
The ME-1000 series accommodates all lens types inclusive of glass, plastic, polyurethane, polycarbonate,
acrylic, etc. To provide best possible results, the system incorporates special grinding modes for
individual lens materials. Detecting the chuck pressure while edging, the unit intelligently reduces any
inaccuracies and grinding noise emission (-10db compared to former models). For example, the new
"Trivex mode" for trivex lenses and "Urethane mode" for polyurethane (used for sunglasses) offers
increased precision and stability in processing.
Heavy-duty, Durable Mechanism
The ME-1000 series is designed with the most advanced CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) techniques.
A direct drive gear system maintains cylindrical axis with every cut. Size is controlled by a newly
designed Y-axis direct drive assembly with a specialized servo motor, achieving consistent high precision
results. An integrated stabilizer keeps the chucking pressure consistent, yet without harming lens
coatings. Together, these components result in a heavy-duty, durable mechanism.
High Speed & High Quality Edging
As well as a world-class, high quality edging system, the ME-1000 series offers an improved processing
time (15% faster than former models). Using the Advanced 'Soft Grinding' mode, even when processing
super hydrophobic coated lenses you will now achieve optimum results.
Polishing
Advanced Mirror Polish technology offers a quality finish. The ME-1000 series
has the efficiency to apply both flat edge polish and bevel polish.
Reduced Water Volume
When a lens edger is connected to direct water, there is a large amount of water consumption. By using
the ME-1000 series, the amount of water is reduced by 40%* in comparison to our conventional models.

Each function assists you in your challenge toward more advanced and high-value added lens processing.
Hole Creation
Icons of various hole types, such as twin holes, jewel holes
(3 different sizes), hole & notch, and counterbored holes,
are displayed on the touch panel screen allowing the
operator to easily place desired holes on the lens by simple
drag & drop operation.
This allows quick and intuitive hole data editing.
Partial Grooving / Partial Beveling
Partial grooving is applied to improve the appearance for rimless lenses. For example, by coloring the
partial grooved area of the lens, the contour can be accentuated. In addition, the groove width and
depth can be partially altered, making the grooving in which the nylon cord sits less noticeable. Partial
bevel position and length can be set simply by using the stylus pen as same as partial grooving.

front and rear face facet is possible and the amount and width may be set freely. The sophisticated
result simulation provides a virtual shape of the finished lens, allowing visual confirmation of the actual
result before processing.

circumference of the lens. The ME-1000 series delivers
a perfect fit and a precise bevel every time, resulting
in a flawless look.
The Ice 1000 is a highest-class automatic blocker ever.
In addition to its blocking functions, it can also read outline shapes
of demo lens for rimless drill mounts, create hole positions, edit
shapes and managing data. The Ice 1000 can do
everything necessary for processing a lens. It works
in perfect combination with NIDEK lens edger
families, ME-1000 series and Lex 1000 series.
