FasCard Satellite Access Point (SAP)
Overview
The Satellite Access Point or SAP is a bridge between the FasCard readers and the internet. The SAP has an
Ethernet port that connects to the locations internet connection and a wireless antenna that communicates with the
FasCard readers. The SAP is more than a wireless access point in that it provides valuable location status information to the FasCard administration site. Every location requires one SAP for every 25 FasCard readers, multiple SAP's can be used to extend the wireless coverage area or provide redundancy in the event of an SAP failure. The wireless range of a SAP is approximately 90 feet providing coverage to 180 foot diameter surrounding the SAP, wireless signal will operate through objects such as walls, floors and doors but signal strength may be degraded.
The SAP is a PoE (Power over Ethernet) device which eliminates the need to install a power source at the install site, power for the SAP is delivered through the Cat5 cable that connects the device to the locations internet connection. SAP's can be wall or ceiling mounted with the provided mounting hardware and should be installed in a central location providing even coverage to all FasCard readers.

FasCard Wireless Readers
Overview
The FasCard reader is a Wifi enabled device that connects equipment to the FasCard system. FasCard readers house a 128 x 64 pixel back lit LCD display, capable of displaying graphics and text to assist the user with operating the host machine and interacting with the FasCard system. The FasCard reader also utilizes a 3 button membrane switch which allows the user to provide input and expanded functionality on the FasCard system. The reader can be mounted on a vertical surface or a horizontal surface, with or without the molded base. The reader's LCD display can be software rotated 180 degrees so that that if the reader is mounted above the users head it can be mounted upside down with the display still oriented properly for the user to view.
FasCard readers can operate with a host machine in either a 'pulse' mode or serial mode. FasCard has been designed to operate with many different multi-vend capable machines, for details on what functionality is supported on a specific machine type see the
.
FasCard readers require power from the host machine they are connected to and can accept input power natively from 12vdc to 36vdc, with an optional external power supply the reader can operate on 110-240vac.

Special Notes
There are 3 different levels of MDB Level 1, 2, and 3. Be cautious when choosing a vending machine as
FasCard is only compatible with MDB Level 1, if a machine states that it is Level 2 compatible it does not mean that it is also Level 1, be specific with your distributor and request confirmation that the machine is
MDB Level 1 compliant.
The prices for items in a vending machine are not controlled by FasCard, in this integration the vending machine keeps and controls all pricing and reports the amount to FasCard for approval.

What is FasCard?
FasCard is an electronic payment and management system designed to allow businesses an easy way to improve profitability by allowing their customers multiple payment options. FasCard accomplishes this through the use of the
FasCard wireless card reader and Fascard server network. FasCard readers can be installed on almost any kind of self service equipment that natively accepts coin or cash including various brands and types of Laundry and vending equipment. FasCard allows the business operator to supplement coin payments with credit/debit cards. FasCard can also be configured to accept loyalty cards which can greatly improve customer retention and increase sales and profitability. FasCard not only provides additional payment options but can monitor the existing coin/cash payments on a host machine. Vend pricing is all controlled remotely with FasCard and allows business operators to change pricing and run sales reports from any internet enabled device, including PC's and smart phones.
The FasCard equipment comprises of two components, the FasCard reader and the Satellite Access Point also called an SAP. The FasCard reader is custom designed WiFi enabled device that once installed, wirelessly communicates with the SAP. The FasCard reader has a 128 x 64 pixel graphic capable back lit display that allows the system to easily communicate with the customers making sure that the vend process is simple and intuitive.
The reader is also equipped with 3 user input buttons to allow customers a way to directly communicate with the
FasCard system, this is primarily useful when implementing loyalty programs. The SAP is communication link between the FasCard readers and the FasCard servers, the SAP is connected to the businesses internet connection and provides FasCard with fast real time functionality. The SAP can be wall or ceiling mounted anywhere within 90 feet of the FasCard readers and use PoE (Power Over Ethernet) which means they don't require a separate power outlet at the install site. The SAP works with almost any wired or wireless internet service and
does not
require a static IP address.
Who is FasCard for?
FasCard is perfect for any business that currently accepts cash or coin payments on laundry or vending equipment that wants to either eliminate coins or supplement coins with credit card acceptance, Laundromats and apartment buildings are the two most popular applications for FasCard. FasCard does require a full time internet connection either wired or wireless and must be provided and maintained by the business.
Do I get charged a transaction fee every time a credit card is swiped on a machine?
No, FasCard uses a 'Preauthorization' method for handling credit card transactions allowing you to configure your system to only generate one transaction per credit card per day. If configured properly system owners will only have to pay one transaction fee per credit card per day. The process starts with a user swiping their credit card on any machine, the system preuthourizes the users credit card the Auth Amount and basically holds that amount for the
Idle Time set within the system. Once the user has stopped using their card for the designated idle time, FasCard
settles the credit card for the actual amount the user spent. If the user spends more than the per-designated amount the system will settle the entire pre auth amount and then pre authorize again for the Auth Amount and the process starts again.
What is Authorize.net? and why do I need it?
All credit card transaction require a gateway service, Authorize.net is a gateway service. A gateway service passes credit/debit card transaction information via a secure connection to the Processor, from which the Merchant Bank's
Processor submits the transaction to the credit card network (like Visa or MasterCard). The credit card network routes the transaction to the bank that issued the credit card to the customer. The issuing bank approves or declines the transaction based on the customer's available funds and passes the transaction results back to the credit card network. The credit card network relays the transaction results to the merchant bank's processor. The processor relays the transaction results to the gateway service. The gateway service stores the transaction results and sends them to the FasCard system.
The benefit of using Authorize.net is that it can be configured to work with almost any merchant bank processor, therefore giving the owner the ability to choose which bank they wish to do business with.
What is a batch fee?
A batch is referred to as a settlement of credit/debit card transactions for a period of time, generally once a day.
Each night FasCard needs to close the transactions for the day and submit a batch to the gateway processor for processing, in turn the gateway processor settles the transactions and charges a small fee.
Can FasCard accept debit cards?
Yes, FasCard can accept whats called an 'offline' debit card. Almost all debits cards can operate in either 'online' or
'offline' mode. Offline debit cards do not require a PIN number and work much like a credit card.
What is a FasCard Hosting Account?
FasCard is whats known as a 'Cloud Based Application'. Basically this means that there are no computers or servers that need to be installed in your location in order use the features of the FasCard system. Rather than have to manage servers at your location there are centrally located servers on the internet that manages and monitors the
FasCard equipment in your location. These servers act as web servers that allow you to manage your system remotely and allow your customers access to their card activity. Every FasCard installation is associated with a hosting account, and each hosting account can have an unlimited number of locations associated with it. Card
Concepts Inc. collects a monthly service fee from account holders for hosting, managing, and backing up these servers.
Is FasCard Mulit-Vend Compatible?
Yes, The FasCard system was designed to be Multi-Vend compatible many different providers of equipment. For a complete list of equipment types that FasCard supports visit our

Terminology
Authorization Hold
Authorization hold (also , , or
preauth
) is the practice within the banking industry of authorizing electronic transactions done with a debit card or credit card and holding this balance as unavailable either until the FasCard system clears the transaction (also called settlement). Debit card holds can linger anywhere from 1–5 days after the transaction date depending on the bank's policy; in the case of credit cards, holds may last as long as 30 days, depending on the issuing bank.
Gateway Service
A service which provides the complex infrastructure and security necessary to ensure fast, reliable and secure transmission of credit/debit card transaction data. Authorize.net is an example of a gateway service provider, gateway service providers generally provide their services for a monthly fee along with various transaction fees.
Location
The term Location is used to describe an install site where FasCard readers and FasSat wireless access points are installed. A Laundromat will most often be considered a single location where as an apartment complex that has multiple laundry rooms may consider each room as a location. FasCard users with the appropriate privileges can group locations in Location Groups to make it easier to manage multiple locations with similar configuration and pricing options.
Merchant Processor Bank
A merchant processor bank establishes a merchant account which is a type of bank account that allows businesses to accept payments by debit or credit cards. A merchant account is established under an agreement between an acceptor and a merchant acquiring bank for the settlement of credit card and/or debit card transactions.
Multi-Vend
Term used to describe a machine which may offer multiple prices based on which options or cycle the user chooses. For example, the host machine may charge more for a hot cycle versus a cold cycle. Machine options vary from manufacture, some machines offer 'extra rinse' or 'super wash' cycles which are often sold as an up charge. This type of vend sequence requires an integrated communication interface between the FasCard reader and the host machine. The typical vend sequence includes the user selecting a cycle, the machine telling the
FasCard reader which cycle has been chosen, the FasCard reader displaying the appropriate vend price and either allowing the machine to start or deny depending on card status and balance. This type of interface is sometimes also referred to as 'Serial Communication'.
Satellite Access Point (SAP)
The term to describe the central access point from which FasCard readers wireless communicate within a location.
There may be multiple SAP's in a single location, often determined by the number of readers being serviced at the location. SAP's provide FasCard readers access to the FasCard remote servers via wired or wireless internet connection, FasCard readers will only operate if they are properly configured/paired with a SAP.
Single Vend
The term to describe a machine which has only one vend price regardless of which options or cycle the user
chooses
. These machine types operate on a simple 'pulse' signal from the FasCard reader, no information on the
machines status is relayed to the FasCard reader. Once the FasCard reader has signaled the machine to start the reader only maintains an estimate of the cycle time based on how the equipment type was configured.
