Configuring external audio source with the DJ Console 4-Mx.
Many types of audio sources devices can be connected to your DJ Console 4-
MX. Whether you want to use the songs from your MP3 player or a
Timecoded CD, it is important to define your audio source type (i.e. the correct output level for the device you are connecting) in the control panel before connecting your audio source. Doing so will avoid possible audio issues such as distorted sound and preserve your ears.
From the DJ Control Panel, under INPUTS Channels, 2 menus allow you to independently select the input type for Deck A (Input 1-2) or Deck B
(Input 3-4).
Microphone level (MIC)
- When selecting the microphone as Input or recording source, keep in mind that it will not be possible to use Input 1-2 at the same time.
- It is not necessary to select MIC if you simply whish to use the Talk Over mode (Mic On-Off) since this function acts directly on the hardware of 4-Mx by sending the signal of the microphone input to the main output.
We recommend using dynamic microphones with an impedance rating of 1 to 64 ohms. If you wish to use a condenser microphone, please note that an external power source will be required as the Console doesn’t provide phantom power (+48 V).
Phono Level
Used for:
- Turntables with a Phono level signal.
If necessary, connect the ground between the DJ Console your the turntable.
Note that this setting should not be used if your turntable produces a Line
Level output (Consult the user manual for more details). The same applies if you are using a Phono/Line level converter.
Line level
Used for:
- Consumer CD players
- MP3 players.
- Musical instruments (keyboard, Effects)
- Turntables with a Line level signal.
- Phono/Line level converter
Pro and Boosted Line level
Used for:
- CDJ players
- Professional samplers.
You can select between Pro level (+4dBu) and Boosted level (+8dBu), depending on your device output level (Consult the device user manual for more details).
Once our device is connected, some additional configuration may be necessary in your software’s settings in order to enable and use the DJ
Console’s inputs.
Note regarding ASIO (PC only)
When the DJ Console 4-Mx operates in ASIO 24Bit, Input 3-4 is automatically disabled, indicated as follow in the control panel:
Consequently, Input 3-4 cannot be used with an external source.
