Nova StatStrip Glucometer are glucose meters used for inpatient and ambulatory areas. The meter can measure glucose levels in blood samples and display the results on a color touch screen. The meter can also transmit results automatically when it is placed in the docking station.

Before Super User hands-on training please do tutorial on KP Learn so your training session will be more meaningful.

Access the KP Learn website at http://kplearn.kp.org
Enter StatStrip Training into Learning Catalog Search window
Click Launch, located on the right side.
Start the tutorial. It will take approximately 25 minutes to complete the entire presentation.
Once completed, access the “Transcript” tab click on the “Print Certificate of Completion”
Submit to the Educator/ADA/Clinical Supervisor
NOVA STAT STRIP GLUCOSE METER
• Results are automatically transmitted when the meter is placed in the docking station.
• The middle green light will flash when data is transmitting.
• An error screen will be displayed if the meter is removed before data transfer is complete.

QC must be done every 24 hrs or as needed (i.e. pt symptoms do not match results, drop meter, etc.)

Clean meter after EACH patient use following locally approved infection control policies.
Thoroughly wipes the surface of the meter (top, bottom, left, and right sides) with locally approved germicidal wipe (i.e. PDI Sani-Cloth PLUS, Clorox wipe) a minimum of 3 times horizontally and 3 times vertically, avoiding the meter’s bar code scanner, electrical
connector, and making sure that no fluid enters the test strip port. Allow to air dry. Never reuse a previously soiled wipe. (Clorox wipes used only for disinfecting the meters used on C. difficile isolation patients).

All testing personnel using the meter will successfully complete the following tasks:

Operator initial
1. Turn Glucose meter on/ Wake meter up.
2. Enter or scan your own NUID# on meter
3. QC Competency for Initial & Annual: Must Perform High and Low QC tests.
4. Select “QC” mode on the meter.
5. Scan test strip lot and Control lot numbers
• Keep Stat Strip Glucose Test Strip vial tightly closed when not in use.
• Test strips should only be stored in original vial at room temp.
6. Dose strip with QC solution. Warning: The test strip must be completely filled by touching QC
solution droplet to strip. If test strip does not fill completely, do not touch test strip to QC
droplet a second time. Discard test strip and repeat test with a new test strip.
7. Remove and dispose of test strip. Enter “Cleaned meter” under “Comments”.
8. Patient Competency for initial must be performed (Annual may verbalize):
9. Select “Accept” for Patient mode. Enter or Scan provided patient MRN.
10. Obtain Patient blood sample. (capillary, arterial or venous) and perform Glucose test
• May use QC solution for patient blood sample competency.
11. View test data on screen. Accept or reject the result.
12. When applicable, enter a ‘Comment’ (e.g. MD Notified)
13. Recall and review on-board test data.
14. Dock meter in Docking Station to automatically upload stored meter data and download updated setup information.
15. Provided with verbal & written instructions on how to locate POCT Policy & Procedure
