Create VPN between Vigor router and a remote
computer under Ubuntu 10.4
Suppose the remote client uses Ubuntu 10.4 (Linux operation system). Here we take Vigor2130 as
an example.
1. Open the web configurator of Vigor2130.
2. Ensure PPTP VPN Service is enabled in Vigor2130.

3. Go to VPN and Remote Access>>PPTP Remote Dial-In to create a new PPTP Remote
Dial-In profile. After finished the configuration, click OK.
4. Make sure the remote computer (with Ubuntu 10.4) is able to access Internet by ping 8.8.8.8.

5. On the side of the remote client, open System>>Preference>>Network Connections>>VPN.
Click Add to create a new VPN profile.
6. Choose PPTP as VPN Connection Type then click Create.

7. In the following page, fill in the VPN settings.
Gateway: Type the VPN server IP address.
Username: Type the username set on Vigor router’s PPTP remote dial in profile.
Password: Type the password set on Vigor router’s PPTP remote dial in profile.
Click Advanced to view detailed settings.
8. In Advanced page, enable Point to Point encryption (MPPE) then click OK.

9. Select the VPN profile you want to perform the VPN connection.
10. Now, the remote computer is able to ping PC behind Vigor2130 when VPN connection is up.
