Frequently asked questions

We recommend using unleaded regular gas only. The ratio for mixing gas and oil is 40:1. This means you will need to add 3.2 ounces of oil to 1 gallon of gas. You can find more specific details in the Operation section of the manual.

You can find instructions on starting the engine in cold weather in the Operation section of the manual. Make sure the choke lever is in the RUN position when pushing or using the primer bulb. Prime the unit until the primer tube is filled with fuel. Hold the Red COLD START lever toward the arrow, and press the primer bulb three more times. Then, move the Choke lever to the CHOKE position. Pull the RECOIL rope out in about 4” (10CM), and then pull briskly to turn over the engine. Once the engine starts running, move the Choke lever to the HALF-CHOKE position until the unit runs smoothly. Move the Choke lever to the RUN position and move the throttle to the desired speed.

The manual has an entire section on Maintenance and Storage. You should keep all screws, nuts, and bolts tight and secure, store the unit in a cool environment, and always replace the blade protector when not in use. You should also service the air cleaner every 3 months or after 20 hours of operation. Make sure the cooling fins, air inlets, and linkages are free from debris before each use. If the blade performance decreases, turn off the unit and disconnect the spark plug wire. Carefully inspect the cutting edge of the blades for any knicks or shiny areas. If blades show any of these signs of wear, they need to be resharpened or replaced.
