When using an electrical appliance, basic safety
precautions should always be followed, including
the following:
Read all instructions before using this
appliance.

To reduce the risk of electric shock:
1. Do not reach for a clipper that has fallen into
water. Unplug immediately.
Use clipper only in dry condition. Do not
use while bathing or in a shower.
Do not submerge clipper in water.
Do not place or store clipper where it can
fall or be pulled into a tub or sink. Do not
place in or drop into water or other liquid.
5. Always unplug this clipper from the electrical
outlet immediately after using, except when
clipper is (re)charging.
6. Unplug and remove power supply cord from

12. This clipper is for use on human hair only.
Do not use this clipper for any other
purpose.
13. Always store your clipper, attachments and
power plug in a moisture-free area. Make
sure the cord is disconnected from the
clipper.
14. Only use the power plug supplied with the
appliance.

Put It To The Test
Like many new products, your Philips Norelco
Hair Clipper may take a little getting used to. If you
are using an electric Clipper for the first time, or if
you've been using a different brand, take the time to
acquaint yourself with your new Hair Clipper.
Your Hair Clipper features a 180° pivoting head to
comfortably clip even hard-to-reach areas of your
head.
Throw your scissors away and put your new

To Charge/Recharge
» Fully charge Clipper before using for the first
time or after non-use for a long period of time.
» Charging, recharging, or using Clipper at
temperatures below 40°F or higher than 95°F
adversely affects lifespan of the battery.
b If the appliance is subjected to a major change
in temperature, pressure or humidity, let the
clipper acclimatize for 30 minutes before using.
P Do not charge/recharge or use Clipper corded
until fully dried.
EN Be certain Clipper is OFF
FA Insert the appliance plug directly into
the Clipper and plug the adapter into any
120V AC outlet (fig 1). Use only the cord
provided.
El The Charging Light on the appliance will
blink white to indicate the Clipper is
charging (fig. 2).
D It will take approximately 1 hour to fully
charge the Clipper for a cordless clipping
time of up to 60 minutes.
EN After the Clipper is fully charged, the
charging light will light up continuously.
NOTE: After 30 minutes the charging light goes
out.
HE Disconnect the cord and unplug from
electrical outlet.
Corded Hair Clipping
P Only use the Clipper corded when the battery
is empty.
» Clipper does not recharge during corded
clipping.
BB Connect cord provided to Clipper (fig. 1)
and plug Clipper into electrical outlet.
EJ If battery is completely empty, wait a few
minutes before turning Clipper ON.
EJ Press ON/OFF button ON to begin clipping.
Е] Turn Clipper OFF and unplug.
Cordless Hair Clipping
BB Charge according to directions. Unplug
Clipper from outlet and remove cord.
FX Press ON/OFF button ON to begin clipping.
EJ If the charge runs low while clipping, the
Charging Light will blink orange.
EN If the charge runs out while clipping, simply
connect cord provided to Clipper and outlet
to continue clipping.
Hair Clipping
P Use this Clipper for its intended household
use as described in this manual.
b If you are clipping someone else's hair, make
sure that the head of the person is at the same
level as your chest so that all parts of his/her
head are clearly visible and within easy reach.
P Only use the appliance on clean, dry hair.
» Do not use on freshly washed hair.
» Before you begin, comb the hair in the direction
of growth (fig. 3).
DP To achieve optimal clipping results, always move
the appliance slowly through the hair against
the direction of hair growth.
Clipping with comb attachment
KE Be certain the Clipper is in the OFF position.
FA Select the comb attachment depending on
the desired hair length. The table shows
the remaining hair length after clipping at the
different settings of the precision or regular
comb.
The remaining hair length is also indicated on each
comb (fig. 4):
— Precision comb: 1-3mm (3/64 — 1/8 in.)
Regular comb: 3-15mm (1/8 — 5/8 in.)
EJ Slide the selected comb into the guiding
grooves on both sides of the Clipper swivel
head and push until you hear it ‘click’ into
place (fig. 5).
Make sure the comb attachment locks properly
into position.
EJ Turn the Hair Length Setting Adjustment Ring
to set the comb to the desired setting (fig. 6).
See Table 1 for settings.
Do not turn the length setting adjustment ring
beyond the highest hair length setting.
El The arrowhead on the Clipper indicates
which setting has been selected.
When you are clipping for the first time, start
at the maximum clipping length setting (#5) of
the regular comb to familiarize yourself with
the appliance and prevent accidentally trimming
hairs too short. As you become familiar with the
settings, adjust the Hair Length Selector to desired
trimming length.

TIP: Use different settings to create a natural and
smooth transition between various hair lengths from
your neckline to the top of your head (fig. 7).
Using the swivel head
D At the starting clipping position of 0° (pointing
forward), turn the swivel head 45° or 90° to
the left or right to adjust the position of the
cutting element to the part of your head you
are clipping (fig. 8).
EE Turn the swivel head left or right to the
desired clipping position. At each position you
will hear a ‘click’ (fig. 9).
Always adjust the position of the cutting element
by turning the swivel head. Do not turn the cutting
element or the comb attachment.
FA The swivel head allows you to hold and use
the Clipper like a styling comb (fig. 10).
Do not turn the swivel head more than 90° to the
left or right.
EX Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the
appliance.
EX Make sure that the flat part of the comb is
always in full contact with the scalp to obtain
an even result.
El Since all hairs do not grow in the same
direction, move the Clipper slowly over the
crown from different directions (i.e. upwards,
downwards and across) to achieve an even
result (fig. 11).
E Always move the Clipper slowly against the
direction of hair growth.
Make overlapping passes over the head to
ensure that all hair that should be cut has
been cut.
EJ As you clip different areas of your head,
adjust the position of the swivel head so that
the swivel head position is most comfortable
for you.
ЕЛ For best results with curly, sparse or long
hair, use a styling comb to guide the hair
towards the Clipper.
UN) Turn the Clipper off regularly during clipping
and remove the hair comb to blow and/or
shake out hair that has accumulated.
When you remove the comb, the selected setting
does not change.
TIP: Write down the settings you have used to create
a certain hairstyle as a reminder for future clipping
sessions.
Using the swivel head

Contouring without a comb
attachment
P Use the Clipper without a comb attachment to
clip very close to the skin (3/64 in/1mm).
D Be careful when you are clipping without a
comb as when the Clipper is turned on it will
remove every hair it touches,
BH Remove the comb by pulling it off the swivel
head (fig. 12).
Never pull at the flexible top of the comb. Always
pull at the bottom part.
To contour the hairline around the ears,
comb the hair ends over the ears.
EJ Press the ON/OFF Button to turn on the
appliance.
Tilt the Clipper in such a way that only one
edge of the cuttiing element touches the hair
ends. Only cut the hair ends. The hairline
should be close to the ear (fig. 13).
I To contour the neckline and the sideburns,
turn the Clipper and make downward
strokes (fig. 14).
NOTE: Move the Clipper slowly and smoothly.
Simply follow the natural hairline.
EJ Adjust the position of the swivel head to
make contouring easier.
Shaving
TIP: Shaving is easier when the hairs are shorter
than 1mm. If the hairs are longer than 1mm, use
the cutting element without the comb to pre-cut
hairs to the shortest setting.
EN Turn off Clipper.
FA Pull the comb off the swivel head (fig. 12).
EJ Press the release buttons (1) and remove
the cutting unit from the handle (2) (fig. 15).
El Attach the shaving head by pressing it onto
the appliance. You will hear a ‘click’ (fig. 16).
Make sure that the shaving head locks into
position properly.
El Remove the protection cap from the shaving
head (fig. 17).
If the shaving head foil shows signs of wear or
damage, do not use as injury may occur. Do not
use the shaving head until foil has been replaced.
[3 Adjust the position of the swivel head to
make shaving easier. You can do this before
and/or during use (fig. 18).
Place the shaving head on your scalp and
start shaving (fig. 19).
NOTE: Make sure that the shaving foil is always in
full contact with your scalp.
TIP:To see the results clearly, look into the mirror
supplied, with your back turned towards a second
mirror.
DP Clean the Clipper after each use.
D Always switch Clipper OFF unplug and remove
power supply cord from Clipper before
cleaning.
P Do not use compressed air, abrasive cleaning
agents, scourers or aggressive liquids such as
gasoline, acetone or ethereal oils to clean
the Clipper and attachments.
P Never clean, replace or remove Clipper
attachments with motor ON.
№ Do not apply pressure to shaving head. Do not
touch foil with hard objects as this may dent
or damage foil or cutters. If damage occurs,
replace damaged parts.
P Do not use Clipper if foil, cutter or cutting
element are damaged or broken as injury may
occur.
D Use a soft, dry cloth to clean Clipper handle.
During Use:
D If cut hairs have accumulated in the comb
area, remove hairs by shaking, blowing or using
cleaning brush provided.
Cleaning the Cutting Element and
Comb After Each Use:
EN Make sure the Clipper is switched OFF
and disconnected from the electrical outlet.
FA Remove any comb attachment (fig. 12).
EN Blow and/or shake out any hair that may
have accumulated in the comb.
Rinse the comb under the tap or clean it
with the cleaning brush supplied.
ES Apply pressure to the center of the cutting
element with your thumb (1) until it releases
from the swivel head (2) (fig. 20).
Be careful that the cutting element does not fall to
the floor:
KA Clean the cutting element under the tap
or with the brush supplied (fig. 21).
Clean the inside of the swivel head under the
tap or with the brush supplied (fig. 22).
EJ Clean the handle and the adapter with the
cleaning brush supplied or with a dry cloth.
EX Insert the lug of the cutting element into the
slot on the swivel head and push until the
cutting element ‘clicks’ into place (fig. 23).
Cleaning the Shaving Head
KE Turn off the Clipper and disconnect from the
electrical outlet.
F1 Press the release buttons on the shaving head
and remove the shaving foil from the shaving
head (fig. 24).
EX Rinse the shaving head and shaving foil under
the tap (fig. 25).
NOTE: To clean the shaving head with the cleaning
brush, brush the inside and outside of the shaving
head and the outside of the shaving foil. To remove
cut hairs from the inside of the shaving foil, tap the
bottom of the shaving foil gently on a flat surface.
Ed Press the shaving foil back into the shaving
head (fig. 26).
Replacing the Shaving Foil Head
D If the shaving foil and cutters are worn or
damaged, do not continue using the Clipper.
Replace the shaving foil and cutters immediately.
D It is recommended that you replace your
shaving foil and cutters once a year.
) A worn or damaged shaving foil or cutters
should only be replaced with an original Philips
Norelco shaving foil, model QC5500, which is
available on the Philips Norelco website,
www.philips.com/support or call
|-800-243-3050 for assistance.
D The foil is a precision part. Handle with care.
BB Turn off the Clipper and disconnect it
from the electrical outlet.
Press the release buttons on the shaving head
and remove the shaving foil from the shaving
head (fig. 24).
EX Remove the retaining frame from the old
shaving foil (fig. 27).
EJ Place the retaining frame on the new shaving
foil (fig. 28).
EX Remove the old shaving cutters (fig. 29).
LA Place the new cutters on the shaving head.
You will hear a ‘click’ (fig. 30).
Press the shaving foil back into the shaving
head (fig. 26).

Battery Removal

be disposed of properly (fig. 31).

Clipper before dismantling Clipper.
EN Allow Clipper to run until the battery is
empty/depleted.
EN Turn Clipper OFF.
Е Remove any comb attachment.
EX Remove the upper housing part of the
Clipper (fig. 32).
[3 Use a screwdriver to open the inner body
of the Clipper.
Use a screwdriver to remove the battery
from the Clipper (fig. 33).
EJ Cut the wires with household scissors.
El Do not attempt to replace battery. Insulate
battery ends by covering with tape and/or
place battery in a small plastic bag.
I] Discard your Clipper. Do not attempt to
plug electrical cord into the outlet or
recharge the Clipper after the battery has
been removed.
