Place the appliance where the temperature will not fall before 1°C (34°F).
Place the appliance away from any source of heat.
The dehumidifier works best in an enclosed area: closing doors and
windows will improve the efficiency of the dehumidification process.
Plug the mains lead into a 13 Amp mains socket.
If connecting via an extension lead, make sure that the lead is rated at 6
Amps or more, and that it is fully unwound.

Domestic wiring must be tested periodically by a qualified electrician at
least once every 10 years or at every change of occupancy.
For office and retail premises, and buildings such as village halls, the
wiring must be inspected at least once every 5 years.
It is recommended that all building be fitted with smoke alarms (it is
mandatory for new buildings).
• Switch the appliance on at the mains socket.
• Press the POWER button to switch the appliance on and off. The power
button illuminates green when the dehumidifier is switched on.
• Use the MODE button to select the mode of operation. Low noise mode
is indicated by a 3-bladed fan, "turbo" mode is indicated by a 5-bladed
fan, and "laundry" mode by a picture of a garment. In Low Noise and
Turbo modes the appliance will reduce the humidity to the level set by the
"Humidity" control, whereas in Laundry mode it will operate continuously.
• Press the HUMIDITY button to select the level of humidity required
(50% is probably the most comfortable setting). When the humidity is
reduced to the selected level, the dehumidification process will stop
(although the fan will continue to run). The two-digit display indicates the
current level of humidity. If the humidity level is already lower than the
selected level, this appliance cannot increase the humidity.

• To operate the timer press the TIMER button. The two-digit display will
then show the time (in hours) for which the appliance will run before
switching off. To increase the time, press the TIMER button repeatedly
until the display shows the length of time required. To cancel the timer
keep pressing the TIMER button until the display shows zero. If the timer
is off, the appliance will run continuously,
• Always switch the appliance off by pressing the POWER button. The
display will turn off, and the fan will run at high speed for two minutes,
then switch off. (This is to cool the heater and remove any water from
inside the appliance). When the fan has stopped running the appliance
may be unplugged from the mains. DO NOT unplug from the mains
before the fan stops, or switch off at the mains whilst the appliance is
operating. This may reduce the life of the heating element which is
essential for the dehumidification process.
• Because the appliance contains a high temperature heater, it is
inadvisable to leave it running unattended. When the appliance has been
running continuously for 24 hours, it will cease dehumidification process,
and run the fan to cool down, then switch off.
Perform a safety check, and clean the filter if necessary before pressing
the POWER switch to restart the appliance. When it has started, check
that it is running normally.
Disconnect the appliance from the mains supply before carrying out any
Clean the outer casing with a damp cloth with a little mild detergent such
as washing-up liquid. Do not use abrasives, or solvents other than water.
Every few weeks, clean the water bucket with a little mild detergent to
prevent growth of mould, mildew and bacteria. Do not clean in a
Removing the collected water:
The appliance removes water vapour from the air to lower the humidity.
The water that is removed is collected in a bucket inside the appliance.
When the bucket is full, the appliance will stop, and the "water full" light
will illuminate.
Page 4
Slowly pull out the bucket - use the hand grip at the side of the bucket
and pull straight out to avoid spillage.
Dispose of the water down a drain, and replace the bucket. The bucket
must be in place and secured before the dehumidifier will operate. It will
start a few seconds after the bucket is correctly inserted.
If the appliance is to be used frequently in the same location, then it
would be an advantage not to have to empty the bucket repeatedly. If so,
it is possible to connect the appliance permanently to a drain.
Page 5
Cut the plastic blanking plug located at the side of the appliance, and
attach a 16mm internal diameter drain hose to the outlet, and place the
other end of the hose into a drain. It is essential that the pipe slopes
downwards continuously, and no part of the pipe is higher than the outlet
in the appliance.
Cleaning the air filter:
The air filter should be checked at least once a month, and cleaned if
1. Remove the air filter by pulling it sidewards.
2. Wash the air filter by immersing it into hand-hot water with a mild
detergent (such as washing up liquid).
3. Rinse in warm water, and dry out of direct sunlight.
4. Slide the air filter back inside the appliance.
Do not operate the dehumidifier without an air filter as accumulated dirt
and dust will reduce performance and may cause a fire hazard.
Before putting the appliance into storage, allow the appliance to stand for
24 hours so that all the water can drain into the bucket, then empty the
bucket. Clean the bucket with mild detergent. Store the appliance upright
in a dry place.
At time of going to press, the average cost of electricity is 11p per unit
(kilowatt-hour). The amount you are being charged will be shown on your
electricity bill.
At this cost, the appliance will cost 5½p per hour to run in normal mode,
or 8½p per hour in turbo mode.

mains socket, and check the fuse in the mains plug.
• Appliance operates noisily:

Allow time for the appliance to remove the moisture.
Make sure that the humidity control is set to a low enough RH value.
Make sure that the air intakes and exhausts are not blocked.
Make sure that doors and windows are closed.
Remove sources of water vapour such as gas heaters or fish tanks.
The appliance will not operate efficiently below 1°C.
If the room is larger than 17m2 a more powerful dehumidifier may be

Appliance is not on a level surface, and the bucket is overflowing.
