VeloComputer™ Smart Sensor Model VC5.1 is designed as a universal platform to measure any
rotational motion with up to 1-degree precision. The Smart Sensor can be wirelessly
programmed to work as a HUB sensor, measuring rotation of a wheel or as a CRANK sensor,
measuring pedalling cadence using standard Bluetooth Cycling Speed and Cadence profile (CSC)
and ANT+ Speed or Cadence profiles respectively.
VeloComputer™ Smart Sensor can be mounted with a supplied universal mounting rubber
holder on a hub of a wheel or on a pedal crank of a bicycle. Each installation HUB, or CRANK
requires a special firmware to operate accordingly. Firmware is available for Bluetooth Smart
and ANT+. Please note that the standard Speed or Cadence profiles are supported for
compatibility with existing apps and devices. Please make sure to install the sensors as shown
on the images below. Crank sensor shall almost touch the hub of a crankset.

REMOVE ALL MAGNETS FROM YOUR BIKE
The functionality of the sensor may be affected by a magnet on a spoke or a crank. If you
have any magnets please remove them all and ride your bike without magnets for a few days
to reduce residual magnetism in your bike.

2 Download firmware .hex files on iPhone from
the Firmware page at www.velocomputer.com
Download firmware .hex files on Android from the
Firmware page at www.velocomputer.com
When prompted Open in “nRF Toolbox” click
on it.
Use a File Manager to open .hex files on your
Android device.

7 Open the battery cap, remove it then close again to trigger the sensor into DFU mode.

Count 5 LED blinks on the sensor and then select UPLOAD
Upon successeful upload the sensor switches to operational mode.
NOTE: If the upload attempt was unsuccesseful because DFU service was not
available then repeat steps 5, 6 and 8 again.
There is a bug in nRF Toolbox which sometimes can’t recognize DFU service
immediately upon connecting to the sensor.

2 Make sure the sensor is ON and waiting for a connection. The LED shall blink slowly. If not
blinking turn the sensor upside down and wait for 30 seconds.

Technical Characteristics
VeloComputer™ Smart Sensor is designed to work on bicycles in outdoor environment suitable
for cycling. It was tested on road, mountain and track bicycles in moderately extreme
