i365: permement J2ME application removal
So I picked up this nice, clean lightly used i365 off Ebay. It works fine, but there is one
problem. There is a J2ME applet (mComet) that is set through the secret #159# menu to
run full time. Problem is the default PIN was changed from 1234 or 0000. I contacted
Sprint and the vendor of said software (Comet Tracker from Actsoft) and both said the only
way is get to that menu is to have the PIN. The folks at Actsoft were very helpful, but said
that they have no way of knowing what the PIN is if the user changes it and that doing a
full reset, or even using iDEN update, will NOT blow away the application.
Sprint says they have no master password for the #159# and the only option is to take the
phone into a service center and have them do a full wipe and there would be a charge for
this as this is not a warranty or TEP issue. Motorola iDEN support told me the same thing,
send it in for flat rate repair of $75 for OOW repair.
I contacted the seller and he claims he did not know of this program, as he bought the
phone off Ebay himself and sold it because Nextel did not work at his house. He said he
would try to contact his seller but if that fell through, he did offer to refund the money.
I'd really like to keep it, it is super clean- is there ANY way of getting this software off the
phone? I've already tried using iDEN update several times, installing the Java app loader...it
still hangs around in the memory and installs itself. I was able to disable it from doing
anything by setting all permissions to DENY but it still runs in the background.
Problem is I want to use InstaMapper as my tracking program (because it is free!) but
cannot set it as full time until I have the PIN to disable and uninstall the other one.
Ideas anyone?

Go the point where you would put in the PIN code (the one that is normally 0000) and press in order:
* # (MENU)
Then you will be at a screen asking for the security password. Press 000000 (that's 6 zeros).
As long as the master password was not changed from 000000, you should be in.
Post back your results, if the 000000 has been changed I will walk you through what to do from there.
I was old school before being old school was cool.

No prob. That trick actually works with any other phone code (ie lock code, GPS pin, etc.). Only thing it will not bypass is the SIM lock
code since that is SIM based not phone based. If the master code though is changed, the only way around that is with special software
and a USB cable.

Sorry to barge in...I have an i580 with mComet running in the background...bought it off Craigs List.....
I was able to find the secret area with the #159# and it asked for pin number ....
but the * # menu sequence did not work....any ideas how I can get mComet off my Nextel?
