The PICkit 2 supports programming most of Microchip’s Flash microcontrollers and serial EEPROM devices. A list of supported devices can be found in the PICkit 2 Readme file on the CD-ROM.

The PICkit 2 can supply power to the target device, or the target device can be powered externally. You can select the desired power source using the PICkit 2 Programmer application.

You can update the PICkit 2 firmware using the PICkit 2 Programmer application or the MPLAB IDE. Instructions for updating the firmware are provided in Chapter 6 of this user’s guide.

The PICkit 2 can be used to debug selected Microchip devices. Chapter 4 of this users guide provides a tutorial on using the PICkit 2 Debug Express debugger program.
