Updating the Nokia N95 software via the Nokia OVI Suite
Note: A SIM card must be inserted into the phone to upgrade the device.
A message will be displayed to the user during the process to insert the card if it is not detected.
It is recommended that the External Memory Card be removed from the phone during process. This will speed up the back up process.
Ensure that the device is charged for at least 30 minutes prior to the upgrade.
Is Nokia OVI Suite available for the Mac?
No!
At the moment, Nokia OVI Suite is only available for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, but a Mac version is planned.
What internet connection do I need for updating my device?
A high speed broadband or wireless connection is required.
In addition a corporate Internet connection via a computer firewall may not work.

A: Download and install the OVI Suite from http://www.nokia.com.au/support/downloadsoftware/nokia-ovi-suite/
B: The user will be prompted “Do you want to run or save this file?
To start the installation process click Run.
The user will see the download in progress, when completed a window will pop up.
Do you want to run this software with options ‘Run’ or ‘Don’t Run’. Select Run.
Pop up screens will guide the user through the installation process.
C: Create a Nokia OVI account to access OVI and most of its services with a single user name log in and password.
There are four steps required to create an OVI Account.
1: Register to a Nokia Account
2: Contact Details
3: Location
4: Security code.
Ensure you keep a record of the created OVI log in and password for future use. Once the log in has been created multiple phones can be upgraded (One at a time) if required. The OVI suite will automatically detect the device connected and will advise if new software is available.
Prior to performing the upgrade it is important to ensure each device is given a unique ID/
Name to identify it and ensure that the backed up data is restored to the correct device.
D: If you have previously created an OVI account then open the OVI Suite program.
It is necessary to log in to OVI Suite using the recently created Nokia OVI Log in and password to start the backup process and software update.
Click on ‘Sign into OVI’
Enter the Username and Password. Tick the ‘Keep me signed in’ if you are going to use the
OVI Suite frequently. Select ‘Sign In’
The upgrade process:
There are five steps involved in using OVI Suite to update the device.
1: Get started
2: Back up (Device information and applications)
3: Install (Updated Software)
4: Restore (Device Information and applications)
5: Finish
1: Get started
Log In to OVI Suite using the created Username and Password.
1(a): Once you have successfully signed in, OVI Suite will update the Screen showing the log in name.
1(b): Select ‘Connect Device.’ ‘Add new device’.
1(c): The following screen is displayed. Connect the Nokia N95 using the USB cable DKE-2 to the computer USB port and then the USB port on the bottom of the phone.
1(d): Check the device it will display ‘Select Mode’.
Scroll to PC Suite and Press OK on the device.
The device displays USB connected in PC suite Mode.
OVI Suite displays the following information to indicate connection has been established with the device. Pop ups will indicate that the device is connecting

1(e): Select ‘Next’
1(f): Device flashes up with the following prompts:
Install MMS Sync Press Yes.
It then prompts Details MMSsync version 1.00(00)
Press Continue. Device prompts Installing. Installation Complete.
It then prompts Install Contacts Group DS Plugin? Press Yes.
Press Continue. Device prompts Installing. Installation Complete.
It then prompts Details Contacts Group DS Plugin version1.23(0)
OVI Suite returns to the following screen.
Right click on mobile phone icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Move cursor to and select ‘Options for Nokia N95’.
1(g): The screen will update with the following information.
In the ‘Device name:’ Field, enter the Full mobile number of the device. Eg 04XX XXX XXX
This is a vital part of the OVI Suite process to ensure that the Unique content stored in the device can be identified and is saved correctly for that device and can be identified and will be restored to the same device. Select OK.
Note: It is possible to choose the folder where the backups will be saved :
The default is in the C drive and will appear in one of the Documents and Settings subdirectories.
An example of this would be C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\Ovi\Backups
In OVI Suite Select OK
1(h): The screen updates with the following information. Check to verify that the
Device/Customers information has been updated next to the phone icon.
1(i): Go to the OVI Suite Toolbar and select ‘Tools, Software Updates.’
1(j): The OVI Suite Screen will update with the following information.
The current version of software on the device will be shown and if there are updates available for the device “Update available Install” will be shown.
Select “Install”
1(k): Transition screen will appear ‘Checking for updates’
OVI Suite will update to the Update device software screen.
Select ‘Next’ in OVI Suite to proceed.
1(l): The following screen will be shown in OVI Suite. OVI Suite displays the following prompts. e.g. Keep the device connected to a charger to ensure sufficient battery power.
Select the Tick box “I have read and agree to the OVI Service terms, Privacy policy, etc.
In OVI Suite select ‘Next’
2: Back Up.
2(a): In OVI suite the default setting is
‘Yes, I want to make a Backup (Strongly recommended).’ Select ‘Next’
2(b): The following transition screen is shown.
2(c): The OVI Suite displays the progress of the backup.
OVI Suite will flash up a message indicating that the contents of the Device were backed up successfully.
3: Install
3(a): OVI Suite shows the transition screen whilst preparing to update the device.

3(b): The Progress of the update can be seen on the screen.
The update process can take 15 minutes to download and install on the phone.
3(c): When the update is complete the following screen will be displayed. Device will restart.
3(d): On the device it is necessary to set the following:
Select Country, Select Current City, Select Date and Time
3(e): Device Displays welcome
Select Mode PC Suite Press OK
Install MMSSync? Press Yes Details MMSSync Version 1.00(0) Press Continue
Installation complete preparing installation
Install Contacts GroupDS Plugin? Press Yes. Details Contacts Group DS Plugin version 1.23(0)
Press continue. Device displays. Installation complete
Phone will Restart.
Press OK
4. Restore
4(a) Ovi suite now starts the Restore process.
OVI Suite will flash up with prompts as the device reconnects and starts the restore process.
Press Next.
4(b): To restore all the previous information check all boxes are ticked.
(Note check the field: Restore content from ’Customers Mobile Number, Date and time’)
This should exactly match the information you entered when you “Named the Phone”.
Press Start
4(c): OVI suite provides a status update during the process.
4(d): Phone displays Phone will restart
Press OK
Phone will restart.
4(e): Phone displays Select mode
Toggle to PC Suite press OK
5. Finish
In OVI suite select Finish.
5(a): The default OVI suite screen returns once the process has been completed.
The phone is now upgraded and ready for use.
If no other phones are required to be updated OVI Suite can be closed.
If additional phones are required to be programmed then they can be connected and the process started again.
