Caution

Always follow the instructions in this chapter in sequence.

Insert speaker wires completely into the speaker sockets at the back of the Hi-Fi system.

Set clock

In standby mode, press and hold CLOCK

SET for 2 seconds.

» [SET CLOCK] (set clock) scrolls on the display, then [24 HOUR] (24 hour) or [12 HOUR] (12 hour) blinks.

Press / to select 12/24 hour format.

Press CLOCK SET to confirm.

» The hour digits blink.

Repeat steps 2-3 to set the hour and minute.

Tip

• To exit clock setting mode, press .

• If clock is not set yet, when iPod/iPhone is connected, the system synchronizes time from the iPod/iPhone automatically.

Turn on

» The Hi-Fi system switches to the last selected source.

Switch to standby mode

Press to switch the Hi-Fi system to standby mode.

» The clock (if set) appears on the display panel.

To switch the system to Eco Power Standby mode:

In standby mode, press and hold for 2 seconds.

» [ECO POWER] (Eco power) scrolls on the display, then the backlight turns off.

Listen to audio from iPod/iPhone

Place the iPod/iPhone in the dock.

Press iPhone/iPod to select the iPod/ iPhone source.

To remove the iPod/iPhone:

Pull the iPod/iPhone out of the dock.

Charge the iPod/iPhone

When the system is connected to power, the docked iPod/iPhone starts charging.

Play from USB

Note

• Make sure that the USB device contains playable audio content.

Insert the USB device into the socket.

Play audio from an external device

You can also listen to an external audio device through this system with an MP3 link cable (not supplied).

5 Play options

Adjust sound

During play, you can adjust volume and select the sound effects.

You can program a maximum of 20 tracks.

Repeat and shuffle play

Tune to FM radio stations

Note

• For better reception, fully extend and adjust the position of FM antenna.

Press TUNER to select FM tuner source.

Press and hold / for 2 seconds.

» The Hi-Fi system tunes to a station with strong reception automatically.

Repeat step 2 to tune to more stations.

To tune to a station manually:

Press / repeatedly until you find optimal reception.

Store FM radio stations automatically

Note

• You can store a maximum of 20 preset radio stations.

In FM tuner mode, press and hold PROG for 2 seconds.

» [AUTO](auto) is displayed.

» The system stores all the available FM stations and broadcasts the first available station automatically.

Store FM radio stations manually

Tune to an FM radio station.

Press PROG.

» The preset number begins to blink.

Press / repeatedly to select a preset number.

Press PROG again to confirm.

Repeat Steps 1 to 4 to store other stations.

• To remove a pre-stored station, store another station in its place.

7 Other features

Set alarm timer

This Hi-Fi system can be used as an alarm clock.

For alarm source, you can select disc, tuner, USB or iPod/iPhone.

Note

• Make sure that you have set the clock correctly.

In standby mode, press and hold TIMER until [SET TIMER] (set timer) appears.

» [SELECT SOURCE] (select source) scrolls on the display.

Press source selection keys to select an alarm source: DISC, TUNER, USB or iPhone/iPod.

Press TIMER to confirm.

» The hour digits blink.

Press / to set the hour.

Press TIMER to confirm.

» The minute digits blink.

Repeat steps 4-5 to set the minute.

To activate or deactivate the alarm timer:

In standby mode, press TIMER repeatedly.

» The alarm icon appears if the alarm timer is activated.

Note

• When alarm sounds, you can adjust volume by pressing

VOL +/-.

• If Disc/USB/iPod/iPhone is selected as alarm source, while no disc is inserted or no USB/iPod/iPhone connected, the system switches to tuner source instead.

Set sleep timer

This Hi-Fi system can switch to standby mode automatically after a preset time period.

Press SLEEP repeatedly to select a preset period (in minutes).

» When the sleep timer is activated, appears.

To deactivate the sleep timer:

Press SLEEP repeatedly until [SLP OFF] (sleep off) is displayed.

Maintenance

Clean the cabinet

• Use a soft cloth slightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use a solution containing alcohol, spirits, ammonia or abrasives.

Clean discs

• When a disc becomes dirty, clean it with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the disc from the centre out.

• Do not use solvents such as benzene, thinner, commercially available cleaners, or antistatic spray intended for analogue records.

Clean the disc lens

• After prolonged use, dirt or dust may accumulate at the disc lens. To ensure good play quality, clean the disc lens with Philips

CD lens cleaner or any commercially available cleaner. Follow the instructions supplied with cleaner.

9 Troubleshooting

Warning

• Never remove the casing of this device.

To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair the system yourself.

If you encounter problems when using this device, check the following points before requesting service. If the problem remains unsolved, go to the Philips Web page

(www.philips.com/support). When you contact

Philips, make sure that the device is nearby and the model number and serial number are available.

No power

• Ensure that the AC power plug of the unit is connected properly.

• Ensure that there is power at the AC outlet.

• To save power, the system switches off automatically 15 minutes after track play reaches the end and no control is operated.

No sound or poor sound

• Adjust the volume.

• Check that the speakers are connected correctly.

• Check if the stripped speaker wires are clamped.

Left and right sound outputs reversed

• Check the speaker connections and location.

No response from the unit

• Disconnect and reconnect the AC power plug, then turn on the system again.

• As a power-saving feature, the unit switches off automatically 15 minutes after track play reaches the end and no control is operated.

Remote control does not work

• Before you press any function button, first select the correct source with the remote control instead of the main unit.

• Reduce the distance between the remote control and the unit.

• Insert the battery with its polarities

(+/– signs) aligned as indicated.

• Replace the battery.

• Aim the remote control directly at the sensor on the front of the unit.

No disc detected

• Insert a disc.

• Check if the disc is inserted upside down.

• Wait until the moisture condensation at the lens has cleared.

• Replace or clean the disc.

• Use a finalized CD or correct format disc.

Poor radio reception

• Increase the distance between the unit and your TV or VCR.

• Fully extend the FM antenna.

Timer does not work

• Set the clock correctly.

• Switch on the timer.

Clock/timer setting erased

• Power has been interrupted or the power plug has been disconnected.

• Reset the clock/timer.

USB device not supported

• The USB device is incompatible with the unit. Try another one.

PHILIPS LIMITED WARRANTY

ONE (1) YEAR

WARRANTY COVERAGE:

PHILIPS warranty obligation is limited to the terms set forth below.

Philips, or (d) if any Philips serial number has been removed or defaced, or (e) product, accessories or consumables sold “AS IS” without warranty of any kind by including refurbished Philips product sold “AS IS” by some retailers.

WHO IS COVERED:

Philips warrants the product to the original purchaser or the person receiving the product as a gift against defects in materials and workmanship as based on the date of original purchase

(“Warranty Period”) from an Authorized Dealer. The original sales receipt showing the product name and the purchase date from an authorized retailer is considered such proof.

WHAT IS COVERED:

The Philips warranty covers new products if a defect in material or workmanship occurs and a valid claim is received by Philips within the Warranty Period. At its option, Philips will either (1) repair the product at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, or (2) exchange the product with a product that is new or which has been manufactured from new, or serviceable used parts and is at least functionally equivalent or most comparable to the original product in Philips current inventory, or (3) refund the original purchase price of the product.

Philips warrants replacement products or parts provided under this warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of the replacement or repair for ninety (90) days or for the remaining portion of the original product’s warranty, whichever provides longer coverage for you. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes your property and the replaced item becomes Philips’ property. When a refund is given, your product becomes Philips’ property.

Note: Any product sold and identified as refurbished or renewed carries a ninety (90) day limited warranty.

This Limited Warranty does not cover:

• Shipping charges to return defective product to Philips.

• Labor charges for installation or setup of the product, adjustment of customer controls on the product, and installation or repair of antenna/signal source systems outside of the product.

• Product repair and/or part replacement because of improper installation or maintenance, connections to improper voltage supply, power line surge, lightning damage, retained images or screen markings resulting from viewing fixed stationary content for extended periods, product cosmetic appearance items due to normal wear and tear, unauthorized repair or other cause not within the control of Philips.

• Damage or claims for products not being available for use, or for lost data or lost software.

• Damage from mishandled shipments or transit accidents when returning product to Philips.

• A product that requires modification or adaptation to enable it to operate in any country other than the country for which it was designed, manufactured, approved and/or authorized, or repair of products damaged by these modifications.

• A product used for commercial or institutional purposes

(including but not limited to rental purposes).

• Product lost in shipment and no signature verification receipt can be provided.

• Failure to operate per Owner’s Manual.

Replacement product can only be sent if all warranty requirements are met. Failure to follow all requirements can result in delay.

This Limited Warranty applies only to the new products manufactured by or for Philips that can be identified by the trademark, trade name, or logo affixed to it. This Limited Warranty does not apply to any non-Philips hardware product or any software, even if packaged or sold with the product. Non-Philips manufacturers, suppliers, or publishers may provide a separate warranty for their own products packaged with the bundled product.

Philips is not liable for any damage to or loss of any programs, data, or other information stored on any media contained within the product, or any non-Philips product or part not covered by this warranty. Recovery or reinstallation of programs, data or other information is not covered under this Limited Warranty.
