Place a clean drain pan under the radiator drain plug, then remove the drain plug from the bottom of the radiator to drain the coolant. Remove the radiator cap to increase the flow.

NOTICE: Radiator coolant will damage the paint finish.

Quickly rinse any spilled coolant off the paint.

NOTE:

• Always use Honda All-Season Antifreeze/Coolant

Type 2. Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail.

• To avoid burning out the element, do not operate the engine block heater until it is installed in the vehicle and you have added coolant.

Customer Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by

“do-it-yourselfers.”

Allow the engine and all cooling system components to cool down.

2.

Raise the vehicle off the ground.

Attach masking tape to the front bumper, headlights, and front fenders as shown.

Remove the front grille cover (seven clips).

• Release four retaining tabs on each side of the front bumper.

Remove the front bumper.

• Remove two self-tapping screws, four screws, two short clips, and four long clips from the front bumper.

• With the help of an assistant, remove the front bumper (two clips and unplug the vehicle connectors).

• Place the front bumper on a blanket.

Remove the engine block drain bolt and washer.

Coolant remaining in the engine jackets flows out of the bolt hole when the bolt is removed. Retain the bolt; it will be used if the block heater is removed.

Remove the right splash guard (four clips and four self-tapping screws).

Install the engine block heater and aluminum washer into the engine block with a 24 mm socket and torque wrench. Torque the engine block heater to 60 N·m (6 kgf·m, 44 lbf·ft).

11. Measure and mark the heater harness at the point shown. Install a wire tie with clip to the heater harness at each of the measurements shown.

13. Route the heater harness, and secure the two wire ties with clips (points A and B) to the bracket.

17. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle frame with one wire tie with clip (point D).

21. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle bracket with one black wire tie.

23. While wearing eye protection, drill the pierced mark to 7 mm. First drill with a 3 mm drill bit, and finish with a 7 mm drill bit.

24. Secure the heater harness to the air guide with one black wire tie (point F).

22. Using a pushpin, pierce the air guide at the measurement shown.

25. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness with one additional black wire tie.

26. With the help of an assistant, reinstall the front bumper.

27. Secure the protective cap to the front bumper grille, and plug the heater harness connector into the protective cap.

28. Secure the heater harness to the front bumper grille with one black wire tie.

29. Reinstall all removed parts.

30. Reinstall the radiator drain plug.

31. Fill the system with the recommended coolant.

Follow the instructions in the service manual to fill and bleed the cooling system.

32. Check the coolant reservoir for the correct level, and check the cooling system for signs of leakage.

Repair as necessary.

33. Check that the heater harness is routed properly and all connectors are plugged in.

34. Put the drain bolt (removed in step 8) in the glove box.

35. If the IMA battery level gauge (BAT) displays less than half, start the engine and hold it between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm (in Park or Neutral) until the IMA level gauge (BAT) displays at least half.
