How to backup to your computer through iTunes
1) Connect your iPod/iPad/iPhone to the computer and open iTunes
2) Click iPod/iPad/iPhone in the top right corner of the screen (dependant on what your device is – in this example
we are using an iPad)
3) Scroll down to ‘Backups’ and look for ‘Manually Back Up and Restore’
4) Click ‘Back Up Now’
5) You will then be asked whether or not you would like to backup your apps. We recommending backing up your
apps by selecting ‘Back Up Apps’.
6) iTunes will then begin to backup your device, and a progress bar at the top of the screen will indicate how far
through the backup it is.
7) Once iTunes has successfully backed up, you will see the date and time that it was backed up underneath ‘Latest
Backup’
8) The backup is now complete. You can also set iTunes to automatically backup your data in the future when you
plug your device in by selecting ‘This Computer’ underneath ‘Automatically Back Up’.
How to restore a backup from your computer using iTunes
1) Connect your iPod/iPad/iPhone to the computer and open iTunes
2) Click iPod/iPad/iPhone in the top right corner of the screen (dependant on what your device is – in this example
we are using an iPad)
3) If you are wanting to do a complete restore first by resetting the software on your iPod/iPad or iPhone, do this
by clicking the ‘Restore iPad/iPod/iPhone’ button and follow the prompts. Otherwise go to step 4.
4) Now to restore your data, contacts, apps etc from a previous backup, click on ‘Restore Backup’ under ‘Backups’
5) iTunes will then ask you which backup you wish to restore from. Select the date and time of the backup you wish
to restore and then click ‘Restore’.
6) iTunes will then restore your device from the backup and the progress will be indicated by a progress bar. The
bigger your backup file, the longer the restore is going to take.
7) Once the restore is complete, a message will be displayed on the screen and then your device will reappear in
iTunes. Your iPod/iPad/iPhone will now be back to the way it was at the point in time that you performed the
backup.
