Can't Pair the Fire TV Remote App
If you're having trouble pairing or using the Fire TV Remote App, here are some solutions that may help.
Check Your Wi-Fi Connection & Settings
First make sure the device you downloaded the Fire TV Remote App to is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Fire TV. To pair the Fire TV Remote App to your Fire TV, your mobile device needs to be connected to the same network.
If you used advanced settings on your router or modem to manually assign a static IP address to your Fire TV, you'll need to change the IP address to the "Automatic" setting. Also make sure Multicast support is enabled for your router or modem.
Stop Display Mirroring
If you're using another mobile device to mirror your display to your Fire TV, the Fire TV Remote App won't be able to pair.
Stop mirroring on the other device and then try again.
Disconnect Accessories or Remotes Not In Use
Try disconnecting any remotes or accessories you're not currently using from your Fire TV.
You can manage your paired remotes and Bluetooth devices by selecting Settings

Check Your Network Information
If you're seeing a Wi-Fi password error or having trouble entering your Wi-Fi password, keep in mind that:
Your Wi-Fi password is not the same as your Amazon account password.
Passwords are case sensitive.
There may be an issue with how you're entering your password. Make sure you're entering numbers and non-English characters correctly.
Also make sure your router, modem and/or network specifications meet the following requirements for
Amazon Fire TV devices:
Network Specifications
Open, WEP, WPA-PSK, and WPA2-PSK encrypted networks
Hidden networks
Router/Modem Specifications
B, G and N routers on 2.4 Ghz
A and N router on 5Ghz

If you're still having trouble, your network administrator or router/modem manufacturer may be in the best position to help.
Check Your Network Connection
There may be an issue with your Internet service itself. Your device features a network status tool that can help you diagnose problems with your connection and learn about ways to fix them.
To use the too, select Settings
>
Network from the Fire TV menu, then press Play/Pause on your remote.
The tool then checks to make sure your device is connected to your selected network and that the network itself has an active connection to the Internet. Any problems with your connection are described on-screen, with recommended resolution steps you can try.

Try to move your Fire TV device, router and/or modem away from physical objects that can block your Wi-
Fi signal
—especially enclosed cabinets or home entertainment centres.

Can't Pair a Remote or Game Controller
If you can't pair your Amazon Fire TV remote or wireless game controller, here are some common solutions to try.
Check compatibility
All Amazon Fire TV remotes and game controllers are compatible. Many Bluetooth-enabled third-party wireless game controllers are compatible with your device as well.
For more information, go to Compatible Remotes for Amazon Fire TV Devices .
Turn off unused remotes or devices
If you have more than seven actively connected remotes or Bluetooth devices, try turning one you're not currently using off.
Make sure your remote or controller is in range
Your remote must be within 10 feet of your Amazon Fire TV device. Avoid placing your device in a cabinet, as this affects signal strength for your remotes and game controllers.
For Fire TV Stick, use the included HDMI extender or adapter
This optimises the location of your Fire TV Stick by positioning it further from your TV, which can improve remote connectivity.
Try pairing your remote or controller again
Remove and reinsert the batteries for your remote or controller. Both positives should be pointing up toward the top of the remote, despite whatever the battery insertion markings might indicate. The remote should automatically try pairing with your device again. If your remote isn’t discovered, press the
Home
button for up to 10 seconds.
You have five minutes to pair your remote with your Fire TV before it goes into sleep mode.
Restart your device
If the steps above don't work, you may need to restart your device. Disconnect the power cord (from the back of the device or from the power outlet) and then plug it back in.

How to Solve Video Issues on Your Fire TV
If you're having trouble watching movies and TV shows from Amazon Video or other streaming services, here are some solutions that may help.
Here are some things to try:
Check Your Network Status
Many streaming and video quality issues are caused by a problem with your Internet connection.
Amazon Fire TV devices feature a network status tool that can help you diagnose these types of issues and learn about ways to fix them.
You can access the tool at any time by selecting Settings
>
Network from the Fire TV menu. Then press
Play/Pause
on your remote.
If your device is unable to connect to streaming services, an error message with an option to "check your network status" typically displays. Select this option to open your network settings and then press Play/Pause .
The tool then checks to make sure your device is connected to your selected network and that the network itself has an active connection to the Internet. Any problems with your connection are described on-screen, with recommended resolution steps you can try.
Check Your Settings
For issues with your display, audio or picture quality, you can open Settings
>
Display & Sounds from the
Fire TV menu to adjust your picture and audio preferences as needed.
Trouble Streaming Video in 4K Ultra HD on Amazon Fire TV (2nd Generation)?
When you start or stop streaming in 4K Ultra HD, your TV screen may flicker or turn black briefly as the display resolution switches from HD to UHD. This should only happen until the resolution adjusts fully, which can take up to five seconds depending on your TV model.
If playback for a UHD title won't start or if you see an on-screen notification about UHD, the HDMI port(s) on your Ultra HD TV and/or AV receiver may not support HDCP 2.2. HDCP is an access control technology required by most content providers to play back protected digital content. For more information about
HDCP, go to What is Content Protection?
.
Amazon Fire TV (2nd Generation) automatically detects whether these requirements are met. But you can also check whether your TV supports HDCP 2.2 from your Display settings:
Go to Settings
>
Display & Sounds
>
Display.
Open the Video Resolution section, which includes warning messaging if HDCP 2.2 is not detected for your Fire TV's HDMI connection.
If you see warning messaging, you can try another available HDMI port on your TV. The Video Resolution section automatically updates to show whether HDCP 2.2 is supported.
Keep in mind that HDCP 2.2 may not be supported for all of the HDMI ports on your Ultra HD TV or AV receiver. Here is general guidance on which device ports typically support HDCP 2.2 for popular Ultra HD
TV brands:
LG: Port 1 for most models
Samsung: All ports, or the MHL port
Sony: Port 1 and Port 2 for most models
VIZIO: Port 1, Port 2 and Port 5 for most models
For more information, go to Watching Video in 4K Ultra HD on Fire TV .
28
At this time, support for 4K Ultra HD video is only available for Amazon Fire TV (2nd Generation) devices. For more
information, check out Which Fire TV Device Do I Have?
.

Content saved to external storage can't be transferred to other devices
—you can't add apps and games saved to your microSD card to another Amazon Fire TV device or copy content from one microSD card to another.
Some critical apps, like Amazon Appstore, cannot be moved to microSD storage. Each game and app on your Fire
TV uses a small amount of internal storage, even if it is also stored on your microSD card.
Some apps and games are configured with a default installation location. The "Technical Details" section on the overview page specifies whether the app or game will automatically install to internal storage or your external storage device.
If you run out of storage space on your microSD card, apps and games automatically save to your Fire TV's internal storage. You can switch to a different microSD card or remove saved content from microSD storage.
If you run out of internal storage space on your Fire TV, a notification displays on-screen when you try to save new content. You can move installed applications to an external storage device or remove saved content from your internal storage.
Safely Remove a MicroSD Card
If you need to remove your microSD card, first make sure to eject it from your Amazon Fire TV, following the steps below. If you don't safely remove your card, the games, apps and other files saved to it could become corrupted and unusable.
Before ejecting your microSD card, make sure you're not currently running an app or game saved to it on your Fire TV.
To safely remove microSD storage:
Select Settings
>
System
>
SD Card.
Select Eject.

Watching Video in 4K Ultra HD on Fire TV
Amazon Fire TV (2nd Generation) supports video streaming in 4K Ultra HD for selected movies and TV shows.
4K Ultra High Definition (4K Ultra HD or UHD) offers enhanced picture resolution up to 2160p
—which is four times greater than HD.
With Amazon Fire TV (2nd Generation), you can watch movies and TV shows offered in this format from
Amazon Video and other streaming video services.
If your Fire TV is connected to a compatible Ultra HD TV, the Movies and TV sections on the main menu include “4K
Ultra HD” categories, where you can find popular titles available to watch in UHD.
An "Ultra HD" indicator displays in your video playback controls whenever you're streaming in 4K Ultra HD.
Your screen also may flicker briefly or turn black while your TV display changes to UHD resolution.
System Requirements
To watch movies and TV shows in 4K Ultra HD on Amazon Fire TV (2nd Generation), you need a compatible Ultra HD TV with at least one HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.2 content protection standards.
HDCP is an access control technology required by most content providers to play back protected digital content. You can only watch movies and TV shows in 4K Ultra HD from Amazon Video and Netflix if your
Fire TV is connected to an HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2. Any other devices that are part of your home theatre setup (e.g. HDMI receivers, sound bars, etc.) need to support HDCP 2.2 as well. For more information, go to What is Content Protection?
Fire TV devices automatically detect whether HDCP 2.2 requirements are met. You can also check to see whether your TV supports HDCP 2.2 from the Fire TV Display menu.
Go to Settings
>
Display & Sounds
>
Display and open the Video Resolution section. When video resolution is set to "Auto", a notification displays in the right panel if HDCP 2.2 is not detected for your Fire
TV's HDMI connection.
HDCP 2.2 may not be supported for all of the HDMI ports on your Ultra HD TV. Ports labelled "Mobile High-Definition
Link" (MHL), "HDCP 2.2", "UHD" or "4K" typically support HDCP 2.2. Here also is general guidance on which ports support HDCP 2.2 for popular Ultra HD TV brands:
LG: Port 1 for most models
Samsung: All ports, or the MHL port.
Sony: Port 1 and Port 2 for most models
VIZIO: Port 1, Port 2 and Port 5 for most models
The user guide or product packaging for your TV may specify whether HDCP 2.2 is supported, as well. If you need
.
Support for 4K Ultra HD video is not available for Amazon Fire TV (1st Generation) and Fire TV Stick.
Internet Speed
To stream in 4K Ultra HD, you need a high-speed internet connection of at least 15 Mbps. Some other video apps need even faster speeds to stream in 4K Ultra HD. For example, Netflix and YouTube recommend a connection of at least 20 Mbps.
Fire TV devices feature a network status tool you can use to check your Internet connection or diagnose connection
problems. For more information, go to Check Your Network Status .
