FOUR WORK AREAS
The Valtra continuously variable transmission (CVT) is truly a working machine.
There are 4 working areas with 2 sweet spots per area, where transmission
efficiency is over 90%. A total of 8 sweet spots is the highest amount in any
CVT tractors in this segment!
+ Best efficiency for all tasks (save fuel and transmission)
+ Optimal transmission efficiency for every task and every driving speed
+ Best pulling ability
+ 92% of speeds with excellent transmission efficiency
It is easy to find the
sweet spot of each
range by calculating

ASR (Acceleration Slip Regulator)
ECOPOWERMODE
TRACTION
CONTROL
(Only on N154e and T174e)
In Direct tractors there is a traction control
system which limits your wheel slip when
driving / working. You can set desired max
wheel slip from drivers menu from armrest screen. Then tractor takes care that
your working is as efficient as possible
in all driving situations without unnecessary wheel slip. This way you get your
work done easier, faster and with lower
fuel consumption. Also you get less soil
compaction, when using it on the field. You
can set the required slip from transmission
settings.
ECO mode is designed especially for work
that requires high torque, but not constant
engine revs e.g. pulling work on the field.
With ECO Power the tractor will give highest torque already at 1100 engine revs. At
the same time ECO Power lowers the engine
speed approximately 200 rpm’s without affecting the ground speeds. This allows lower
noise levels and lower fuel consumption.
If higher engine revs are needed, you can
change between ECO and power mode with
ECO push button on side panel.
10
1.
Make sure
the engine is running.
2.
Push the ECO-button from
the right hand console.
3.
You will notice the maximum
engine RPM drop and the
switch will illuminate green.
4.
Use this when operating
on the road, or when using
implements with high torque
requirement.
5.
To deactivate,
push the ECO button.

TRANSMISSION DROOP - Controls how engine reacts on load.
1. Turning the control-knob anticlockwise gives priority to the engine rpm:
Under load, the transmission ratio will automatically adjust to maintain
engine rpm. +Power delivery e.g. in PTO tasks
2. Turning the control-knob clockwise, then priority is given to the transmission
ratio: The engine reduces rpm, whilst still maintaining the most
economical transmission ratio
+ Fuel economy e.g. in transport tasks
Knob can be adjusted on the move, or when stationary. For usual tasks setting
between 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock works best.
Drive response mode selector - When using driver lever mode, you can
adjust how quickly the engine and transmission react to movements of the drive lever.
When using pedal drive mode, you can adjust transmission braking with this button.
The selection appears on the tractor terminal display.
First level
– Slowest drive lever acceleration and a light engine brake,
turbine clutch imitation is activated.
Second level – Slowest drive lever acceleration and a light engine brake,
turbine clutch imitation is not activated.
Third level – Medium drive lever acceleration and a medium engine brake,
turbine clutch imitation is not activated.
Fourth level – Quick drive lever acceleration and a heavy engine brake,
turbine clutch imitation is not activated.
SPEED BALANCE - To reduce the driving speed in relation
to the opposite driving speed.
1. To reduce the forward driving speed, turn the control knob anti-clockwise
2. To reduce the reverse driving speed, turn the control knob clockwise

DRIVING TIPS
If the road is slippery and you need to maintain a reasonable
driving speed, you can limit your maximum speed using the
transmission setting menu. In this way Direct makes sure that
your driving speed doesn’t increase too much accidentally. You
can also engage “Turbine Clutch” to ensure that wheels aren’t
slipping.
If you have heavy trailer in hilly conditions, you can activate
automatic change between C –D working ranges from the transmission settings menu.
• Start-up always in C range.
• When accelerating the transmission will automatically change
to D range
• When decelerating the transmission will automatically change
to C range
You can also limit your maximum driving speed with max. speed
adjustment wheel. Then you can see your maximum speed on
the A pillar display. This speed is reached with the drive pedal
fully pressed down.
By choosing ECO mode you can save fuel.
(Only in N154Ed/T174eD)
• The tractor will use slightly lower revs and bigger transmission
ratio.
• On uphill the speed will be a bit lower than in Power mode, but
you can choose either to save a few seconds of time or fuel.
• You can also gain lower fuel consumption by adjusting Droop
to clockwise.
There are two ways to drive Direct: with drive pedal or with drive
lever. Drive pedal works as usual, just select Drive Pedal mode
by pushing lever to right and adjust speed with drive pedal. To
use Drive Lever, pull lever to left. Now you can accelerate and
decelerate with Drive Lever. Adjust lever’s sensitivity with drive
response button located next to it. When using Drive Pedal,
drive response button adjusts engine braking.

TIPS FOR FIELD DRIVING
You can use cruise control when ploughing as well as on the
road. With cruise control ON you can adjust your speed using
the Cruise Control Adjustment Wheel.
You can also try ECO and Power modes in field tasks.
-In demanding conditions the tractor reacts faster to changes of
load when using the Power mode.
You can use the U-Pilot headland management system to store
information about lifting and turning ploughs and to set the 4WD,
differential locks and cruise control ON and OFF according to
seconds or meters after pressing button. You can then perform
all these functions simultaneously with just one button. Refer to
User Manual for more information.
Engage Slip control, Automatic four-wheel drive and automatic
differential lock to save fuel and to work efficiently in field tasks.
Activate Transmission manual mode from transmission settings
if you want to control the engine speed with the driving pedal
and adjust the transmission ratio with the drive lever.
