CHANGING DVD REGIONS WITH
VISTA - PLAY MORE MOVIES
Some of us movie buffs know the joy of importing DVDs from abroad. They can be cheaper than the UK, may have more extra features and even be available legally before the film hits the cinema in the UK.
The only problem is many discs are "region coded" to the area they came from - for example, American discs are Region 1 while UK discs are R2. The good news is it's easy to watch these films on your computer, as you can alter the DVD region to play the discs.
It should take under 15 mins

The Knowhow
Is this legal?
As long as what you're importing is a manufacturer's original disc, for your own use, and is a conventional film that could happily be sold in UK shops, this is absolutely fine to do.
Many reputable online retailers sell discs from a number of countries to dedicated cinema fans, whether they want to watch the latest Hollywood blockbuster before their friends or catch a gentle Korean meditation on love and life that may not make it to the UK cinemas.
Important:
You can only change the region settings five times in Windows.
If you have ever played a region coded DVD movie, you will have already used one change when you played it - most likely to region 2 for the UK and Europe.
The 5th change will be permanent; you will only ever be able to play discs from the region you set the player to from that point on.
How to change your DVD region in windows:
Look at your DVD packaging. The DVD region is noted on the back of the case. This is the region you need to change your DVD player to.
From your desktop open My Computer
Right-click your DVD drive icon and select Properties
Click on the Hardware tab
Select your DVD drive from the list and click on Properties
Select the DVD Region tab
Note: This will show you the number of changes you can still make
Select the country for the new region you would like to set. The boxes at the bottom show your current region and the new region that will be set.
When you are happy with your choice, click on OK
As stated previously, the fifth and final change permanently locks the player to that region so please be careful when changing regions as recovering the machine will not change this.
Now, dim the lights, turn up the sound and enjoy your film.
