GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS

WARNING

Read all safety warnings and all instructions.

Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term “power tool’’ in the warnings refers to your mainsoperated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1. WORK AREA SAFETY

a. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

b. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of

flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite dust or fumes.

c. Keep children and bystanders away while

operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

b. Use personal protective equipment. Always

wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

c. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking

up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

d. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before

turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

e. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and

balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

f. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves

away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

g. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure

these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

2. ELECTRICAL SAFETY a. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power

tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

b. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges

and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

c. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet

conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

d. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.

Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges

or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

e. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an

extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

f. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device

(RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3. PERSONAL SAFETY

a. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power

a. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct

power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

b. Do not use the power tool if the switch does

not turn it on and off. Any power tool that can not be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

c. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing

accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

d. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to

operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

English e. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the

power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

f. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

g. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in accordance with these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working

conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from intended could result in a hazardous situation.

5. BATTERY TOOL USE AND CARE a. Recharge only with the charger specified by

the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.

b. Use power tools only with specifically

designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.

c. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a connection from

one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.

d. Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical

help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

6. SERVICE a. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement

parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

b. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

c. This appliance is not intended for use by young

2 children or infirm persons unless they have been adequately supervised by a responsible person to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

d. Keep children and visitors away. Visitors should wear safety glasses and be kept a safe distance from work area. Do not let visitors contact tool or extension cord.

SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES

WARNING

The product is not intended for use by persons

(including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the product by a person responsible for their safety.

Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the product.

■ Know your tool. Read operator’s manual carefully.

Learn its applications and limitations, as well as the specific potential hazards related to this

tool. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

■ Always wear safety glasses with side shields.

Everyday glasses have only impact resistant lenses.

They are NOT safety glasses. Following this rule will reduce the risk of eye injury.

■ Do not disassemble the product.

■ Do not attempt to modify this product or create accessories not recommended for use with this

product. Any such alteration or modification is misuse and could result in a hazardous condition leading to possible serious personal injury.

■ Do not use this product if it is not completely assembled or if any parts appear to be missing or

damaged. Use of a product that is not properly and completely assembled could result in serious personal injury.

■ Do not use the product in contact with fabrics. The lens can produce sufficient heat to melt fabrics and cause serious personal injury.

■ Do not leave the product unattended while in the

■ Battery tools do not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet; therefore, they are always in operating condition. Be aware of possible hazards when not using your battery tool or

when changing accessories. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or serious personal injury.

■ Do not place battery tools or their batteries near

fire or heat. Following this rule will reduce the risk of explosion and possibly injury.

■ Never use a battery that has been dropped or

received a sharp blow. A damaged battery is subject to explosion. Properly dispose of a dropped or damaged battery immediately.

■ Batteries can explode in the presence of a source

of ignition, such as a pilot light. To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, never use any cordless product in the presence of open flame. An exploded battery can propel debris and chemicals. If exposed, flush with water immediately.

■ Do not charge battery tool in a damp or wet

location. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock.

■ Do not expose the product to rain. Water entering the product will increase the risk of electric shock or malfunction.

■ For best results, your battery tool should be charged in a location where the temperature is more than 50°F but less than 100°F. Do not store outside or in vehicles.

■ Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage may occur. If liquid comes in contact with your skin, wash immediately with soap and water, then neutralize with lemon juice or vinegar. If liquid gets into your eyes, flush them with clean water for at least 10 minutes,

then seek immediate medical attention. Following this rule will reduce the risk of serious personal injury.

■ Remove battery pack and allow the lens to cool before performing any maintenance, cleaning or storing.

■ Keep the product dry, clean and free from oil and

grease. Always use a clean cloth when cleaning.

■ Save these instructions. Refer to them frequently and use them to instruct others who may use this tool. If you loan someone this tool, loan them these instructions also to prevent misuse of the product and possible injury.

This product will accept Ryobi One+ 18 V lithium-ion battery packs and Ryobi One+ 18 V nickel-cadmium battery packs.

APPLICATION

Use the product for the purposes listed below:

■ To illuminate any areas requiring additional light

■ To illuminate distant objects

REMOVING WARNING LABEL

The product has an attached warning label on the lens.

Read carefully and remove the label before use.

OPERATION

WARNING

The lens will be very hot during use. To reduce the risk of burns, do not touch the lens.

To reduce the risk of fire, keep away from combustible materials while in operation.

WARNING

Do not direct the light beam at persons or animals and do not stare into the light beam yourself (not even from a distance). Staring into the light beam may result in serious injury or vision loss.

TO INSTALL BATTERY PACK

See Figure 1.

n Make sure the switch trigger is in Off position. n Place the battery pack in your spotlight. n Make sure the latches on the battery pack snap in place and the battery pack is secured in the spotlight before beginning operation.

Depress and release the switch trigger.

THERMOSTAT PROTECTION

Internal thermostat will shut off the unit if the unit becomes too hot. The unit can be turned on again if it reaches a safe operating temperature.

TO REMOVE BATTERY PACK

See Figure 1.

n Make sure the switch trigger is in Off position.

n Locate latches on both sides of the battery pack and depress them to release the battery pack.

n Remove battery pack from your spotlight.

Release the switch trigger when the unit shuts off. It will cool down and the thermostat will reset after a 10-minute rest.

Note: If the switch trigger is in lock-on position, the unit will take several hours to cool. Make sure the switch trigger is released for faster cooling.

Note: If the light begins to flash, the battery needs to be recharged.

WARNING

Battery tools are always in operating condition.

Therefore, switch should always be in Off position when not in use or when carrying at your side.

BATTERY PROTECTION FEATURES

RYOBI 18 V lithium-ion batteries are designed with features that protect the lithium-ion cells and maximise battery life.

SWITCH TRIGGER

See Figure 2.

To turn the spotlight on, depress and hold the switch trigger. To turn the spotlight off, release the switch trigger.

LOCK-ON BUTTON

See Figure 2.

Your spotlight is equipped with a lock-on feature which conveniently enables continuous use over an extended period of time.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING

The bulb is not intended to be repaired or replaced by the customer. It should be repaired or replaced at an Authorised Service Centre.

WARNING

When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other part may create a hazard or cause product damage.

Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use.

Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.

WARNING

Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating oils, etc. come in contact with plastic parts.They contain chemicals that can damage, weaken or destroy plastic.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

To lock on: n Depress and hold the switch trigger.

n Push in and hold the lock-on button.

n Release the switch trigger.

n Release the lock-on button.

Recycle raw materials instead of disposing as waste. The machine, accessories and packaging should be sorted for environmentalfriendly recycling.
