Introduction

thank you for making Amigo Arc your choice of neckloop receiver.

Amigo Arc belongs to the Amigo fm product family from oticon – a company that strives to provide superior solutions for school and home use. the extreme versatility of the Amigo family makes life much easier in academic, professional and social listening situations.

Amigo transmitters and receivers are compatible with most types of Behind-the-ear hearing instruments, as well as cochlear Implants. Amigo Arc can also be used for Ite instruments that have a dedicated microphone/telecoil (mt) program.

Getting started

What Amigo Arc connects to

Amigo Arc can be used with instruments with a dedicated telecoil/mic + telecoil function, e.g. Bte, rIte, Ite, cochlear Implants and Bone Anchored hearing solutions and with headphones for people with auditory processing disorders.

Amigo Arc also works with all Amigo transmitters plus most other brands of fm transmitters.

You can connect Amigo Arc to devices such as mp3 players using an auxiliary cable and plug.

Charging the battery

Amigo Arc uses a built-in rechargeable battery, which must be charged for 4 hours before being used for the first time. to charge the battery, remove the AuX cable, if attached, and plug in the charger as shown below. It takes 1½ hours to charge Amigo Arc 80%, and 2½ hours to fully charge it.

Wearing Amigo Arc

Amigo Arc is designed to be worn around the neck . to put Amigo Arc on, simply open the loop at the connector (see below), pull the wire around your neck and close the connector again.

While charging, Amigo Arc will automatically turn off.

note: Amigo Arc can also be charged from a Pc using the usB cable provided.

How the LEDs work

Amigo Arc has two LeDs; one to indicate that it is receiving an fm signal, and the other to indicate battery status.

How the buttons work

On/Off/Seek button

Å the on/off button doubles as a channel seek button.

Push the on/off button for 2 seconds to turn the device on. A start-up beep will be played. the battery LeD will show a steady red.

Push the on/off button for 2 seconds to turn the device off.

Channel seek

You can seek for active fm channels by pressing the on/off button. Amigo Arc will beep when it encounters an active fm channel, and emit a confirmation beep when locking on to your channel of choice.

the beep will be heard in the hearing instruments when set to telecoil or mic+telecoil program. the fm LeD will show steady red when the fm channel is found.

note: the seek functionality can be disabled for small children.

Volume up and down

Press the arrow up button briefly to achieve the desired volume.

Press the arrow down button briefly to lower the volume.

Amigo Arc will beep when changing the volume up or down; the default level is also indicated with a double beep, if beeps are enabled.

A long press on the volume up/down button will change the listening program in wireless-enabled oticon hearing instruments.

note: Both functionalities can be disabled for small children.

Audible indicators

Amigo Arc has an audible indicator that emits a beep when a setting has been changed.

the beeps are transmitted to the hearing instrument and heard by the user.

Amigo Arc beeps once, every time the volume is turned one notch up or down. When the default level is reached, a double beep is emitted.

moreover, if the scan functionality is enabled, Amigo Arc will play a beep every second during the scan operation. When locking on to an fm channel, two beeps will be played.

note: Beeps can be disabled, if necessary.

Intelligent volume setting memory for your convenience

Amigo Arc offers three types of volume settings to suit your personal preferences.

these settings are:

1. standard use, where the fm signal is transmitted to the telecoil

2. connecting e.g. an mP3 player to the AuX jack

3. connecting headphones to the AuX jack

If you turn the volume up two notches when listening to e.g. an mP3 player, Amigo Arc will automatically remember this the next time you are using your music player.

Exchangeable shells

Amigo Arc comes with five different-colored covers. these are simple to change.

start by pressing a fingernail into the gap at the top of the cover, then twist it loose on both sides.

Be sure to Be sure to replace the shell on the LeD side with the new shell with small openings to allow the LeDs to be seen. the second shell piece in the colored set has no openings for LeDs and should be placed on the opposite side of the Arc. note: never use excessive force when changing faceplates.

Synchronizing Amigo Arc to transmitter channel

to synchronize Amigo Arc, make sure that that it is turned on.

Within a distance of approximately 20 inches, press the sYnc button on the Amigo t20/t21/

WrP. the LeD on the transmitter will then blink three times, and the sYnc logo will appear on the screen. If synchronization is successful, the fm LeD on Amigo Arc will also blink three times. note: Amigo Arc can also seek for active fm channels - see page 12.

Cleaning of Amigo Arc

Amigo Arc is moisture repellent, making it very easy to clean with a cloth dampened with water; do not use alcohol or any other cleaning products or solvents

Do not immerse Amigo Arc in water or other liquids.

International Warranty

Your Amigo Arc is covered by a limited warranty issued by the manufacturer for a period of 24 months from the date of delivery. this limited warranty covers manufacturing and material defects in Amigo Arc itself, but not accessories such as headphones and cables etc.

Problems arising from improper handling or care, excessive use, accidents, repairs made by an unauthorised party, exposure to corrosive conditions, damage due to foreign objects entering the device, or incorrect adjustments are not covered by the limited warranty and may void it.

the above warranty does not affect any legal rights that you might have under applicable national legislation governing sale of consumer goods. Your Hearing care Professional may have issued a warranty that goes beyond the clauses of this limited warranty.

Appendix A: Troubleshooting

no sound/no fm reception

LeDs off

Intermittent or reduced sound charge the battery make sure that Amigo Arc is on the desired channel make sure that the hearing instrument is in telecoil or mic+telecoil program make sure that the battery is charged make sure that Amigo Arc is on the desired channel make sure that the LeDs are enabled in the fitting of Amigo Arc move away from potential noise sources make sure that there are no other transmitters transmitting on the same fm channel for assistance with troubleshooting or answers to other questions please consult your hearing care professional.

How to do it

one quick press on the on/off button forces Amigo

Arc to scan for fm channels. Amigo Arc will lock onto the first active fm channel it finds in its channel list.

Volume Press p or increase or decrease volume.

Amigo Arc can be synchronized using an Amigo t20/t21/WrP or the Amigo eZync.

Amigo Arc is supplied with 5 different shell colors that are easy to change (see p. 16 for guidance).

Product approval, precautions and markings

Amigo Arc contains a radio transmitter that utilises short range magnetic induction technology working at 3.7 mHz. the magnetic field strength of the transmitter is

< -30dBuA/m@ 10m.

the emission power from Amigo Arc is below international emission limits for Human exposure. for comparison, the radiation of Amigo Arc is less than unintended electromagnetic radiation from for example hair dryers, electric shavers etc. Amigo Arc complies with international standards concerning electromagnetic compatibility.

the device complies with Part 15 of the fcc rules and rss-210 of Industry canada.

operation is subject to the following two conditions:

- this device may not cause harmful interference.

- this device must accept any interference received, including interference that

may cause undesired operation.

changes or modifications made to the equipment not expressly approved by oticon may void the fcc’s authorisation to operate the equipment.

NOTE: this equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the fcc rules. these limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. this equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

• reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

• Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.

• connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the

receiver is connected.

• consult the dealer or an experienced radio/tV technician for help.

Warnings and precautions

Amigo Arc is not a toy and therefore should be kept out of the reach of young children and anyone else who might swallow parts or otherwise cause injury to themselves. special attention should be paid to the smaller components in order to prevent children from swallowing them and choking, or putting the jack into their mouth. If a part is swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.

When using Amigo Arc with AuX input cable, safety is determined by the external signal source. When the input cable is connected to Ac-operated equipment, this equipment must comply with Iec-60065, Iec-60601 or equivalent safety standards.

the safety of recharging batteries with a usB connector only is determined by the external equipment. When the usB connector is connected to Ac-operated equipment, this equipment should be uL approved or comply with equivalent safety requirements.

Amigo Arc will cease to function if the batteries have run out. the system may also produce a high whistling noise if the battery is low. users should be aware that these sounds should not be confused with warning sounds - e.g. car horns in traffic.

special care should be taken whenever people with normal hearing use Amigo Arc with headphones. if the headphones are used at a high volume, tinnitus and hearing loss may occur.

set the volume at a safe level and avoid turning up the volume to block out noisy surroundings or people speaking near to you.

never expose Amigo Arc to excessive heat by putting it in the oven, microwave oven by burning it. there is a risk that it will explode and cause serious injury.

Interference

• Amigo Arc is designed to comply with the most stringent standards of International

electromagnetic compatibility. However, Amigo Arc may cause interference with other

medical devices such as defibrillators and pacemakers. therefore, please contact the

manufacturer of your implantable device for information about the risk of disturbance.

Interference can also be caused by power line disturbances, airport metal detectors,

electromagnetic fields from other medical devices, radio signals and electrostatic

discharges.

Possible side effects

• the otherwise non-allergenic materials used in Amigo Arc may in rare cases cause

skin irritation.

consult a doctor if you experience any of these side effects.

Emissions

• the emission power from Amigo Arc is below international emission Limits for Human

exposure. for comparison, the radiation of Amigo Arc is less than unintended

electromagnetic radiation from for example hair dryers, electric shavers etc. Amigo Arc

complies with international standards concerning electromagnetic compatibility.

Use in cars:

using Amigo Arc with a mobile phone while driving can distract you. If possible, pull off the road and park before making or answering calls.

Use in aircraft

Amigo Arc should not be used in aircraft without the permission of the flight crew.

Use of the loop

If by accident the neck cord should get caught on something while being worn, it is designed to break (separate) automatically. therefore, never try to shorten or modify the neck cord in an unauthorized manner.
