You will then be asked if you want to hunt or have target practice. If you want to sharpen your skills before going hunting, then what you need is a little target practice! Using the DIRECTIONAL PAD, highlight "TARGET" and press the ON/ENTER button. Round one will begin, and a deer target will appear. Using the DIRECTIONAL PAD, aim your gun by positioning the CROSSHAIRS over the TARGET AREA on the deer. Press the SCOPE button to ZOOM IN on the target. When ZOOMED IN, you can use the DIRECTIONAL PAD to move the CROSSHAIRS as weil. Once you you've lined up your shot, squeeze the trigger to shoot. HUNTIN' TIP: Be sure to RELOAD before you shoot. If you haven't reloaded, "reload" will flash on the screen. Your TARGET PRACTICE is divided into 5 rounds. You can only advance to the next round if you hit all targets without missing. You also only need to hit BUCK targets (you know, a male deer with antlers). If you hit a DOE target (a female deer without horns), it counts against you and you won't be able to go to the next round. So be sure by using your scope to check for antlers. As you advance to the higher rounds, you'll be given more difficult moving targets, long distance targets, and does. Your target score is calculated by how fast you shoot your targets, so don't take too long lining up a shot. HUNTIN' TIP: if you're having trouble with those long distance targets or moving targets, press the SCOPE button to ZOOM IN for a better shot. If you think you're ready, let's go huntin'! After you've finished target practice, or after pressing the ON/ENTER button, or after pressing the RESET button, you'll be asked if you want to HUNT or have TARGET practice. To go huntin' use the DIRECTIONAL PAD and highlight, "HUNT." Then press the ON/ENTER button. Wind Call Rattle High Score Next you'll be asked if you want a COVER SCENT. A cover scent is used to help hide your own scent so the deer can't smell you. If you want a COVER SCENT, use the DIRECTIONAL PAD to highlight, "YES." If you want a real challenge, use the DIRECTIONAL PAD to highlight, “NO.” Now you'll get your trusty rife off the wall, climb aboard your four-wheeler, and head out to the hunting range. OVERHEAD VIEW Once you are out in the field, you'll see an OVERHEAD VIEW of you and the surrounding area. Use the DIRECTIONAL PAD to move around and look for deer HUNTIN' TIP: The biggest rule of hunting is, "safety first." So when you're in OVERHEAD VIEW, you'll have to have your gun switched to SAFETY. Just remember to switch if off when you're ready to shoot, or you might let that big buck get away! Now, you can walk around the area looking for deer or you can use something to call them to you. Using the TOGGLE button, you can toggle to the DEER CALL or the ANTLERS. The DEER CALL makes the sound of a deer in the wild, while the ANTLERS rattled in some branches makes the sound of a deer marking his territory. Highlight either one of these and press the ON/ENTER button to use them. The deer just might come to youl JUST BE CAREFUL! , If you use a call too much or stay in one place too long, a bear may come your way. If you see a bear, you have to shoot it twice before it gets you or the game is over. TRACKING THE DEER Whether you use a CALL or not, before you spot a deer you'll spot one of its signs. This could be deer DROPPINGS, RUB and SCRAPES against a tree, deer TRACKS, BEDDING, or ACORNS on the ground (a tasty deer treat). When you spot one of these things, a blinking dot will appear somewhere on the screen. That's your deer! Now use your directional pad to move closer to the deer, bringing it into firing range. FIRING RANGE HUNTIN' TIP: Press the TOGGLE button and select the WIND DIRECTION symbol. This lets you know which way the wind is blowing. You always want to approach a deer with the wind blowing away from him and toward you. Because, whether you're using COVER SCENT or not, if that deer smells you comin’, he's outta’ there! WHEN THE DEER IS IN YOUR SIGHTS After you move close enough to the deer, the view will be changed to HUNTING VIEW. Just like in TARGET PRACTICE, use the DIRECTIONAL PAD to aim your gun. But remember, these aren't targets. These deer won't stick around for long. You have to hurry up and shoot before these deer see you, hear you, or smell you! If you shoot and miss, the deer will run away and you'll have to look for more. When you hit a deer, the number of points it has on its antlers adds to your score. If you want to view your better SCORE, press the TOGGLE button and select the SCORE icon. Then press the ON/ENTER button. HUNTIN' TIP: Remember, just like in TARGET PRACTICE, you're not supposed to hunt DOES. If you shoot a DOE, your huntin' trip will be over and you'll have to begin again.
