Using Linksys Network Storage System
Devices with Mac OS X Leopard Time Machine
This document describes how to use a Linksys Network Storage System (NSS) attached storage device as the backup destination when you use the Mac OS X Leopard Time Machine application to back up your Mac data.
NSS4000 4-Bay Gigabit Network Storage System Chassis
NSS4100 4-Bay Gigabit Network Storage System Chassis with 1.0 TB RAID
NSS6000 4-Bay Advanced Gigabit Network Storage System Chassis
NSS6100 4-Bay Advanced Gigabit Network Storage System Chassis with 1.0 TB RAID
The Mac OS X Leopard Time Machine application does see the NSS as a native drive, so the NSS cannot be selected as a target backup destination from the Time Machine application.
1. Open a Terminal window on the Mac.
2. Type: defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
Any NSS shared drives to which you have connected are displayed in the list of disk volumes you can choose for Time Machine storage.
For information on the NSS devices , go to: http://www.linksys.com/ and choose Connected Office > Business Series > Network Storage.
