Installing Control Modules Kits 500LC–47CM*, 48CM*, 49SS* to Bulletin 500LC Lighting Contactors
How to Install Control Modules
CAUTION
Recommended Tools
To avoid personal injury or property
damage, de–energize both line and control
power connected to the Bulletin 500LC
Lighting Contactor before proceeding.
Screwdriver, needle–nose pliers
1.
Open circuit breakers, then use a voltmeter to verify no voltage is present at
both control and line terminal screws.
2.
Label, disconnect, and tape all wires (control, line, load) from the lighting
contactor.
3.
The control module can be mounted to the Bulletin 500LC Lighting
Contactor on the bottom or right side depending on the number of poles:
2–...6–poles, bottom mounting
Mount the control module at the base of the lighting contactor. Install the
screws supplied with control module in outer holes (in legs) of module. Use
the inner holes on the contactor frame. Tighten the screws evenly to 5 in–lbs.
Refer to Figure 1.
Do not overtighten the mounting screws !
8–...12–poles, side mounting
Mount the control module (tabs) on the right side of the lighting contactor
with the two contact block screws. Loosen the two existing screws on the right
side of the upper and lower contact blocks. Back out the screws to clear the
cut outs in the contact blocks so that the module’s mounting tabs can be
inserted. Retighten the two screws (through the module’s mounting tabs) to
10 in–lbs. Refer to Figure 2.

Connections
Connections to the Control Modules are shown in Table B. Also refer to the labels
in Figure 3 and the Wiring Diagrams in Installation Instructions Publication
500LC–IN001A–EN–P. Barrier screw type terminals accept #22–12 AWG Cu
control wiring.

1.
The control modules have two colored leads with quick connect lugs for
connecting to the O and C terminal on the Lighting Contactor. Connect the
yellow wire to the O terminal; connect the orange/black wire to the C
terminal. For reverse operation connect the yellow wire to the C terminal, and
connect the orange/black wire to the O terminal.
2.
Connect the external control wiring for the control module to terminals 2, 3,
and 4 on the control module as shown on the wiring diagram. Terminal 2 is not
used on Control Module 500LC–47CM* and terminal 1 is not used on any of
the control modules listed here.
For DC control modules be sure to connect
terminal 4 to negative (–). For AC control
modules connect terminal 4 to the neutral
wire of the control line.
3.
Connect the control wiring for the Lighting Contactor (coil voltage) to
terminal 5 on the control module and terminal L on the Lighting Contactor. If
the line voltage (service) is the same as the coil voltage, the control voltage
can come directly from the poles of the Lighting Contactor. Tighten all
control module terminal screws to 12 in–lbs.
4.
Reconnect all wires previously removed. Tighten the control connections to
10 in–lb. Tighten the line and load connections to 18 in–lb.
5.
Close circuit breakers and check electrical operation of the lighting contactor
with the new control voltage.
