Creating MP3 Files using Windows

Media Player 10

First, select Window Media Player from your Start Menu->Programs.

Once you have the application up and running, look towards the top of the menu options and select “RIP”

The following window should be available to you:

Now, insert a CD.

NOTE: I know that you can start by inserting a CD, many people make mistakes starting that route so I chose to start with the easiest and most common method.

You should notice the fact that the artist information, titles and album title are generic. If you have an internet connection, you should see the following after waiting a few seconds.

Now, that your CD has been updated, you can check or uncheck the music you are interested in converting. You can then select the “Rip Music” option. The default location for the files to be transferred to is “My Music” in the “My

Documents” folder.

Updating the options to create MP3s and not

WMAs

The default set up to “RIP” music is to create WMA files. WMA stand for

Windows Media Audio and is proprietary to Windows software. This causes an issue for anyone using Ipods or Palm Pilots.

You can reach this menu by either selecting “Tools” from the menu option at the top or right clicking near the top of the screen. From here, select the “Rip Music”

tab. Under the Rip Settings option, you can change the Format from wma to mp3.
