A considerable advantage of SLR cameras is the possibility to extend the photographic possibilities through a broad range of accessories. As part of the E-System, the E-400 benefits from a comprehensive line-up of lenses and other accessories that offer a solution for every photographic demand. Two new zoom lenses were specifically developed for the E-400, which with their exceedingly compact form perfectly complement the E-400 concept. The E-400 is available in a kit containing the ZUIKO DIGITAL

The Olympus E-400 is the smallest and lightest* digital SLR camera ever constructed. It thereby epitomises the Olympus tradition of combining maximum technical performance with exceptional design. This especially applies to operability. Perfect ergonomics enable intuitive handling which even lets beginners get the hang of things quickly so they can start shooting immediately. From a technical perspective, the E-400 offers all manual and automatic functions required for professional

D-SLR applications. In terms of size and weight, it is easier than ever before to take this camera along on holidays, assignments or wherever you might need it.

In combination with the two especially-developed, ultra-compact zoom lenses, a focal range of

14–150mm** is covered and therefore equipped for practically every situation. Thanks to a newly-developed image sensor with 10.0 million pixels, picture quality is second to none and allows prints – even in above-average formats – to be produced without even the smallest of compromises. As with all cameras in the Olympus E-System, the E-400 incorporates the unique

Supersonic Wave Filter, which prevents dust entering the camera during lens changes and affecting image quality. The E-400 is compatible with all ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses and virtually the whole range of E-System accessories.

Due to adherence to the Four

Thirds Standard, further options are available due to crossmanufacturer compatibility.

the biggest enemy of a perfect photo is miniscule

You rarely get a second chance in photography. The ideal moment is unrepeatable. Yet the tiniest spec of dust entering the camera during a lens change could ruin a perfect photo.

In analogue cameras, the dust particles are transported away as the film is wound on. This means that usually only one picture will be affected.

In contrast, dust landing on the image sensor of a digital camera stays where it is – and more will join it over time.

Even the smallest particle can cover hundreds of pixels. This results in image flaws that must be corrected through subsequent editing. In addition, photographers must endure the time and expense associated with regular professional cleaning that consequently becomes necessary – which sometimes even requires the camera to be sent away for servicing.

Wave Filter” protects the

E-400 image sensor:

The dust filter, located in front of the highly-sensitive CCD, is brought into vibration via an ultrasonic generator.

This lets dust particles be shaken off within milliseconds, which are then captured on a special adhesive mem-

ergonomic, compact, ingenious

brane within the camera. This function is invoked at each start-up of the camera as well as every time Pixel

Mapping is carried out. The unique

Olympus “Supersonic Wave Filter” dust protection system is included in all E-System cameras, and was again optimised for incorporation in the

E-400 through a smaller form and higher frequency vibrations.

Dust particles have lodged on the dust filter in front of the sensor.

The activation of the ultrasonic generator makes the particles fall from the dust filter.

A clean image sensor ensures flawless image quality.

The extremely compact body of the E-400, with its fill of functions, was designed in strict accordance with ergonomic considerations.

In practice, this means each button is located exactly where it belongs and where one would instinctively expect to find it.

The 6.4cm / 2.5’’ LCD impresses not only because of its size, but also due to its high resolution, incredible brightness and 160° wide viewing angle. All parameters of the camera settings are displayed large and clearly, and besides providing a view of the shot images it also features a histogram facility with four modes and, if desired, even lets the over and underexposed sections of an image be highlighted.

The E-400 enables continuous shooting at a speed of up to 3 frames per second.

Photographers can thereby rest assured that the decisive shot in a dynamic sequence will certainly be captured.

In addition to the usual options for automatic or preset white balance setting, the E-400 incorporates a one-touch white balance function for optimal alignment to the ambient lighting conditions.

In this way, for example, a white shirt will still appear white even if recorded under fluorescent light – therefore saving the necessity for image editing later.

built-in pop-up flash

With the built-in pop-up flash, photographers are prepared for any situation. It features TTL control and can be set manually or automatically. With a series of pre-flashes, it can also automatically help reduce the potential “red-eye effect”.

This function enables the depth of field of images to be checked, at the touch of a button, in the optical viewfinder or on the LCD prior to recording.
