Install
Create a new session
If this is a new installation, it will help you create a connection profile with the “New
Session Wizard”.
Normally the wizard will start automatically if not the option to access it is shown in later
steps.

Specify a name: HRS, FRS, SIS, TSO (for example)

If a previous version was installed this screen will appear
If you have an earlier version of QWS3270, the new version may uninstall the old one.
Don’t worry it will keep your settings.
Upgrade
Under the menu “Help” select “Update Program. After the the upgrade process
completes, you can verify that you have the latest version by going to Help and selecting
About QWS3270. (see the image at the top of this document)

IMPORTANT: After the Setup Wizard and Update have been completed be sure to see
the “Enable Secure Connection” setting in the following pages to complete the setup.
This is another way to setup a session – disregard if wizard option was used.
Start QWS3270 and go to Options, then Session

When it asks for this information, give it the following settings:
Host Name : MVS.OKSTATE.EDU or 139.78.100.9 Each Session must have separate
HLLAPI Session ID A, B, or C, etc
Port : 23

Terminal Type (Screen: IBM-3278-2)
To create a new session for the various mainframe application select NEW at the screen
below.
Specify a name : HRS, FRS, SIS, TSO (for example)
Type in: FRS, HRS, SIS or TSO

(If you are upgrading, these settings will carry over from your previous installation.)
Numerous session can be setup.
Each Session must have separate HLLAPI Session ID: A, B, C, etc
Disable security
Before you connect, you have to edit the profile. This version of QWS has security
enabled by default (hence the name). Since our system doesn’t use SSL, we have to
disable this so remove the check mark as noted in the next graphic.

Under the menu “QWS3270” select “Connect.” This will bring up a box, and in the
Session Name pull-down, select the name you made above (FRS, HRS, SIS or TSO).
Press “Edit” to bring up the Session Options. On the left, select “Security”. Then on the
right, uncheck “Enable Secure Connection”. Press Apply.
Your 3270 session will function with that one setting, but here are a few recommended
settings to configure the interface:
Or Start QWS3270 and click on Connect and select Options then Session

Adjust the colors:
Select “Colors”, then select “3279 blue” and change it to light blue.
Adjust the font:
Select “Display”, then press “Select Font..” and change it to Lucida Console regular 10pt.

Copy by area instead of by line:
Select “Copy/Paste”, then (up at the top) select “Copy and Paste in Block Mode”.
Make the Backspace key delete backwards
(this is what you’d expect the backspace key to do, and it isn’t set up by default)
Close the Options window if you are still viewing it. Select the menu “Options /
Keyboard”. In the new window press the “Enter” key, press “Remap Key” then select
“Backspace (destructive)”.

Change Transfer Type:
If you’re going to upload files from your PC to the mainframe, this will save you a step:
Select “File Transfer”, then change Host Type to “TSO”.
Use the mouse wheel: (Optional)
This will allow you to use the mouse to scroll ISPF panels. Select “Mouse”, and at the
bottom, you will see options for the mouse wheel.

Set these two options:
Roll Wheel Up : PF7
Roll Wheel Down : PF8

Change Terminal Type: (Optional)
If you are using an LCD monitor that runs at 1280x1024, the default font may seem too
tall.
Select “Connection” and change Terminal Type to “IBM-3278-3-E”. This will add more
rows to the display and therefore reduce the font height.
If the font is the wrong size on your system, you may have to experiment with a few
settings. Avoid using terminal types higher than “3” because the system does not display
them properly
