Abstract
Music & Messages On-Hold is a common function of many business phone
systems. Unfortunately, many equipment offerings for the On-Hold industry
do not reflect the remote connectivity and agility offered by the ShoreTel
phone system.
Premier Technology’s answer to this need is the Hybrid 7600 & 7100 player
for Music On-Hold. This unit combines standard On-Hold player functionality
(reliability, ease of use, continuous play) with a built-in web GUI used for
audio upload and device configuration.
The Ethernet connectivity, along with a rack mount installation kit, makes the
Hybrid 7600 & 7100 an optimal solution for ShoreTel users.

Overview
This document explains the operation, configuration and installation of the
Hybrid 7600 & 7100 as it relates to the ShoreTel phone system.
The function of the Hybrid 7600 & 7100 is to store and play (in continuous
loop) a digital MP3 file used for Music and Messages On-Hold. The unique
feature to the Hybrid 7600 & 7100 is the ability to upload a new file remotely
via Ethernet using a web browser. The user can also upload new MP3 audio
by using a removable USB flash drive.
Features and Benefits
The primary product for ShoreTel users is the Hybrid series device. Users
can upload new MOH (music on hold) audio remotely via an Ethernet
connection. The audio upload is managed from a desktop computer that
resides on the customer LAN/WAN. A built-in web GUI allows the user to
upload an MP3 file, assign IP settings and control volume level.
*Optional: In addition to the web GUI, a Java-based software utility is
available for customers that wish to “batch” load a new On Hold file to
multiple Hybrid series units.

Configuration Overview
Basic configuration required. Hybrid series connects via 1/8” audio cable
(included) to the MOH input jack on the ShoreTel phone system. The
Ethernet connection is plugged into a nearby network router or switch. The
ShoreTel phone system should be configured to use the external MOH source
for Music on Hold. The Hybrid device can be mounted to a wall or in a server
rack (consumed 1 rack unit).
Note: The Hybrid 7600 & 7100 can only store a single mp3 file, although it
can play multiple mp3 files if you put the files on a USB drive and plug it into
the back of the unit.

ShoreTel Configuration
Various ShoreGear voice switches have a 3.5 mm mini-stereo input connector
that provide music or some other recording to callers when they are on hold.
The input port supports low-level line audio from Premier Technologies
Hybrid, at 47k ohms nominal impedance. The audio input cable can be up to
10 feet long. Refer to the ShoreTel Planning and Installation Guide, to
determine the ShoreGear switches that provide the 3.5 mm mini-stereo input
connector. The audio input port on the ShoreGear voice switches is a mono
connection. If you connect a stereo input, the stereo signal is converted to a
mono signal.
A single ShoreGear MOH source switch can provide up to 15 MOH streams.
ShoreTel can provide music on hold on a per-site basis using the audio input
port on ShoreGear switches that support music on hold. You only need a
single music source per site. Connecting the Hybrid to the designated
ShoreGear voice switch provides music on hold.
Each site with music on hold must have its own music source. To conserve
bandwidth, music is not sent across the WAN between sites, and MOH is
selected by the ShoreGear Switch where the Central Office trunks are
configured. IP phone users will not receive MOH when they are on an internal
call. See the ShoreTel Administration Guide for additional information.
Log into ShoreWare Director, on the left hand side below the
“Administration” section, click on the “Switches…” link, then click on the
“Primary” link:

Select the ShoreGear switch that will be used as your primary MOH source:
Enable MOH by clicking on the box to the left of the parameter “Music On
Hold Source”, make sure that the box is checked / enabled, then go to the top
of the page and click on the “Save” radio button.
You may have selected a ShoreGear switch that can also modify the gain:

-7-
Adjust the “Music On Hold Gain (-49 to 13):” parameter as needed and save
the change.
This completes the configuration on the ShoreTel system for Music On Hold.
Details related to MOH over SIP Trunks:
 MOH for SIP trunks is offered for environments where external users
reach the ShoreTel system through SIP trunks, and MOH will be offered
internally, in situations where the SIP protocol is used to reach the
ShoreTel system through SIP devices, such as a WiFi phone, that are
configured to use ShoreTel SIP trunks rather than a SIP extension.
 If there is a MOH source at the same site as a SIP trunk, these trunks will
be connected to that source when placed on hold, and the device at the
other end of the trunk will connect directly to the MOH switch.
The existing rules for MOH will also apply to MOH for SIP Trunks:
960 Stewart Drive Sunnyvale, CA 94085 USA Phone +1.408.331.3300 +1.877.80SHORE Fax +1.408.331.3333 www.ShoreTel.com
-8-
 MOH will not be sent across sites.
 The MOH source must be at the same site as the SIP trunk that utilizes it.
Limitations:
 MOH is not supported over the SIP tie trunk towards analog phones,
analog trunks or PRI trunks.
 Currently, MOH is sent over the tie trunk and is not generated by the
local device.
MOH Works for the following SIP trunk devices:
 Internet Telephony Service Provider Network (e.g., AT&T,
Bandwidth.com, EtherSpeak, etc.).
MOH is supported across SIP Tie Trunk to IP Phone in the following scenarios:
 From an IP phone to another IP phone
 From an analog phone to an IP phone (i.e. putting the call on hold from
an analog phone)
 From any trunk (PRI/analog) while placing an IP phone caller on hold
 From any phone type to a SIP trunk device such as a Hitachi phone over
the SIP tie trunk and onto the SIP trunk device

-9-
4) The Hybrid will go through an initialization and search the network for an
available IP address via DHCP service. If DHCP is not present, the unit will
assign a temporary IP address using Bonjour. See (Figure 1.3) to assign
permanent IP settings.
5) The LCD screen will display the IP address the unit has been assigned.
6) Using a computer on the local network, enter the device IP address into a
web browser. The browser will display the default GUI web page (Figure
1.2). This default page allows the user to control volume as well as access
other GUI pages. The section labeled “Audio Content” does not apply to this
installation.
7) To upload a new On-Hold audio file, browse to the Load Audio File web
page (Figure 1.1). To access this page, type “/update” after the IP address
(example x.x.x.x/update).
Locate the “Load Audio File” field, browse to the MP3 file you wish to use, and
click Upload. The Hybrid accepts a single MP3 audio file (max bit rate 256
kbps).
8) Connect the audio cable to the MOH input on the ShoreTel phone system
and adjust the volume accordingly.
NOTE: The Hybrid can also play MP3 audio file(s) from a removable USB
flash drive. To install with USB, simply insert a USB flash drive into the rear of
the unit. The Hybrid will play the MP3 file(s) and display the file name on the
LCD screen.
FAQ:
1. The Hybrid will store and play a single MP3 audio file. Supported bit rates
are 32-256 kbps. Max file size 24 MB.
2. The Hybrid does not support a WAV audio file.

- 10 -
3. If network DHCP is not available, the Hybrid will receive a temporary IP
address using Bonjour. The user will then access this temporary IP address
and configure the unit with permanent IP settings (Figure 1.3).
Confirm Successful Installation:
1. After loading new audio via Ethernet or USB drive, confirm the LCD screen
displays the correct audio file name and the “walking stick” is active,
indicating unit is powered up and in an idle state.
2. Call into the phone system and ask to be placed On Hold.
3. Confirm the Hold music is playing. Adjust volume if needed by using the
Up and Down buttons on the unit, or via the web GUI (Figure 1.2).

Premier Technologies Troubleshooting
Basic Troubleshooting:
1. LCD screen is blank -- Confirm power is applied to unit. If an audio file is
present, the unit will display the file name. A walking “stick” indicates unit is
in Idle Mode (normal). Unit requires 12V AC 800mA power.
2. Unit does not receive valid IP address – if the network operates a DHCP
service, the unit will receive a valid IP address. If DHCP is not available, the
unit will receive a temporary IP address using Bonjour. To communicate with
the device, your computer or laptop will need to be configured with similar IP
settings. Once you can access the device GUI, enter the permanent IP
settings.
3. Audio file does not play – confirm the audio file is MP3. The Hybrid does
not support a WAV audio file.
