Bedford Free Library www.bedfordfreelibrary.org DOWNLOADING EBOOKS ON YOUR KINDLE USING OVERDRIVE What you will need: -Bedford Free Library card number (or any Westchester Library System card) and PIN (your pin is the last 4 digits of your phone number). - Your Amazon.com user name and password -Computer with internet access For Kindle Keyboard, Touch and Paperwhite: 1. Go to www.bedfordfreelibrary.org website and click the downloading eBooks on the right hand side. This brings you to the eContent page choose first option “Overdrive Advantage” 2. Click sign in at the upper right corner of the page. You can now sign in using your library card number and PIN. Make sure you check the “remember my login information” box so you don’t have to type in next time. Once you click the sign in box you are in the catalog. 3. In the upper right hand corner type in a title or author you wish to borrow in the search box. If that item is available the book cover will come up in the search. If the title is unavailable you will be prompted to place a hold on the item. You will be notified via email when the item is ready for downloading. 3. Click on a book cover to open its details page, then click ‘Borrow’ and you will be taken to your bookshelf page. The first time you borrow a book make sure the loan period is 14days you can check this right below the borrow button. Hit change to extend to 14 days the default is 7 days. Once you change this information it will remain at 14 days. 4. Select Kindle Book from the ‘Download’ drop-down menu and then click on “Confirm & Download.” 5. You will be directed to Amazon's website so that you can complete the checkout and send the title to your Kindle. Click ‘Get library book’. You will be prompted to sign in with your Amazon account information. 6. Select the Kindle you want it delivered to. A Wifi connection is required to deliver your book to your device so make sure you are connected. Once you refresh your account the book will be on your Kindle. Open and enjoy. For Kindle Fire and Kindle HD Tablets: You can access the Bedford Free Library website directly from the web browser on the Kindle Fire and HD tablets. Follow steps 1-6 to download Kindle eBooks from the OverDrive site. To enjoy EPUB eBooks and MP3 audio books on your Kindle tablet download the OverDrive App from Amazon. Downloaded eBooks and audio books will appear in the OverDrive App. Please note: To read EPUBs, you will also need to authorize your device with an Adobe ID. Returning books early Sign into your Amazon.com account and select Manage Your Kindle. From the ‘Actions’ drop-down menu next to the title you wish to return, select ‘Return this book’. Trouble shooting -Check for an active Wi-Fi connection: Home/Menu/Settings/Wi-Fi Settings. -Check in the Archived Items folder on your Kindle for books not yet downloaded. -Make sure you delivered to the correct Kindle if multiple devices share the same account.
