8-megapixel resolution for high-definition images
8x Zoom-Nikkor lens
Lifelike image reproduction
The COOLPIX 8700 and
its newly developed
CCD offer 8.0 effective
megapixels for an
astoundingly high resolution of 3,264 x 2,448 pixels. Quality like this makes images of exceptionally high definition possible — even when cropped.
The 8x zoom gives you the
power of a 35 - 280mm
(35mm [135] equiv.) lens,
while Macro capability
lets you get as close as
3cm (1.2 in.). This combination is supported by
Nikon’s world-renowned optical technology, with
two ED glass elements delivering crisp, clear
images while minimizing chromatic aberration —
all of which helps realize the full potential of 8.0
effective megapixels.
The COOLPIX 8700’s exclusive image processing
technology takes true-to-life images a step closer
to reality. A 256-segment Matrix Metering system enables optimal exposures in even the most
challenging lighting environments, while Matrix
Auto White Balance neutralizes color deviations
created by ambient light sources. Both advanced
features allow the COOLPIX 8700 to preserve a
faithful reproduction of color, detail and gradation.

Precise, flexible exposure control
With four exposure modes (P, S, A and M), as well as Exposure Compensation, the COOLPIX 8700 provides
you with an exceptional degree of exposure control. Moreover, the camera’s AE-BSS (Auto Exposure - Best
Shot Selector) mode can automatically select the best relative exposure from consecutive shots, so that
either the highlighted or shadowy areas of your images attain a remarkable level of clarity.
Advanced shooting capability
Expand your photographic opportunities with the COOLPIX
8700’s specialized features. Interval Timer Shooting captures
the flow of time, while the Five-Area Multi Autofocus and
AF-assist illuminator assure sharp focusing in difficult compositions and low light. And with the 5 shot buffer mode, your
last five pictures are recorded just by holding down the shutter
release button, so that you’re sure to get the shot you want.
A perfect fit
The COOLPIX 8700’s sturdy, lightweight magnesium alloy body has an
ergonomic design sculpted to make access to control functions fluid and
effortless. The 1.8-inch-type Vari-angle LCD monitor ensures high visibility — even in daylight — and shooting from
almost any angle. The Electronic Viewfinder
(EVF) now provides a 235,000-dot resolution with
backlight illumination for optimum visibility.

8 to activate… your imagination
Incredibly precise image control
Set the image control options according to your needs using features such as White Balance,
Image Sharpening and Saturation. White Balance Bracketing automatically captures the
same scene at different white balance settings — ideal for shooting in mixed light sources. For
those who desire more creative freedom when editing, the COOLPIX 8700 offers RAW data
image mode, where your images can be adjusted using Nikon’s dedicated software.

6.
Creative and convenient features
Use the COOLPIX 8700’s 12 Scene Modes for optimum results in any situation, or
display Framing guides on the LCD monitor in order to achieve an ideal composition.
The real-time Histogram display
1
helps you to choose the best exposure
value, while the large, easy-to-view
GUI (Graphic User Interface) lets
you customize your menu to display
only your favorite functions.

7.
Quick response
Its quick autofocus and minimized start-up and shutter release
time lag keep the COOLPIX 8700 ready for action. Now you can
take up to five full-size, 8-megapixel (3,264 x 2,448) images at 2.5
frames per second. You’ll never miss a decisive moment again.
8.
System compatibility
Explore more creative photography with the COOLPIX 8700’s various accessories.
An external Nikon Speedlight attached to the camera’s accessory shoe opens up
possibilities for multiple-flash photography, while Wideangle, Telephoto and
Fisheye Converters help you realize your artistic and photojournalistic potential.
A Remote Cord and Lens Hood HN-CP11 for filters are also available.
Shot with Fisheye Converter FC-E9
Post-shooting possibilities
Nikon View software lets you do more with your images. Once your
COOLPIX 8700 is connected to a computer via USB cable, Nikon View
launches automatically, letting you view, adjust and print your images
— including RAW data.
