TROUBLESHOOTING
If your player is not performing as well as expected please use the
following checklist below before referring to the Tesco helpline or
returning the item.

Read this manual before using your player.
The PDVD910 is set to play Region 2 discs.

The player will accept the following formats (among others):

The following formats are not acceptable:
No power
• Check if the AC adapter of power plug is connected securely.
• If powered with the battery, check if it is exhausted.
No picture/sound
• Make sure the connection is in good condition; volume is not too
low; audio receiver or TV work normally; audio setting is proper.
• Check if the TV type is correct. Toggle PAL or NTSC with the P/N
button on the remote.
Operate the INPUT/OUTPUT button.

Improperly formatted CD-Rs or CD-RWs. This may include discs
which are not finalised.
The player has built in copyright protection technology. If a video
recorder is connected to the player, the video output image may be
distorted during recording.
Interference or
scrolling
• Due to the effect of copy protection. Avoid connecting to a VCR
or TV/VCR combination.
Black & White picture
• Adjust the vertical hold on your TV.
Disc will not play
• The DVD+-RW you played should be finalized.
• ensure the disc is the right way up and correctly inserted.
• Make sure the disc is free from scratches & fingerprints.
• Insert a playable disc. (Check the disc type and color system).
• Is the disc Region 2?
• Clean the disc.
• Cancel the parental lock function or change the parental lock
level. (The Pre-set password is 3308.)
• Reset the player.

store for a replacement. Have your receipt ready when you call.
Retain the packaging. If you dispose of it, do so having regard to any
recycling regulations in your area.

film covering the screen. Take care not to press on the screen while
doing this.

PARENTAL SETTINGS
PLAYING AN AUDIO CD
Age related coding is on the disc. The player picks up this coding and
allows or restricts viewing dependent on the control level set by the user.
There are eight levels of control available as follows:
2: G; 3: PG; 4: PG13 5: PGR 6: R; 7: NC17; 8 Off
The level progressively rises through the age groups until level 8 which is
strictly adult viewing only. To defeat this control select Off
Load an Audio CD into the player. The player reads the disc, downloads the
Table of Contents (TOC).
Most CDs will start automatically - a very few won’t

When you reach the final track you cannot go to the first track using NEXT

Highlight Parental, press PLAY (ENTER on the player)
! Select the Rating, press PLAY (ENTER on the player)
! Input the password at the prompt. Use the number keys on the handset.
! Press OK (OR press SETUP to cancel)
! If the password is accepted the rating will be changed. If the password is
incorrect the rating will not be changed
! The default password is 3308
To change the password: Refer to the procedure on the previous page.
Parental Settings should only be altered using the handset.
6) Stopping and Re-starting a Disc

Press STOP. Press PLAY (ENTER) to start play from the track at which
the disc was stopped.
To play a stopped disc from the start of the disc:

PCM: Use this for audio CDs: Raw: Use this for 5.1 DVDs. If you are not
using the digital audio connections, select Off.
NOTE: PCM outputs are essentially 2 channel outputs, though they may
carry matrixed multi channel signals (i.e some VCD discs).
Digital multi-channel signals (e.g. 5.1) are supported by the RAW format.

Choose STEREO unless you are connecting the player to a mono TV. Refer
to your TV instruction manual for guidance.
VIEWING A CAMCORDER ETC.
Connect the supplied Stereo Audio Cable to
the Audio Inputs of the TV set. This cable has
WHITE and RED plugs. Connect the White plug
to the LEFT socket and the Red plug to the
Right socket.
Connect the supplied Special Cable to the
Composite Video Input of the TV. This is the
cable with the YELLOW and ORANGE plugs.
Connect the YELLOW plug ONLY.

Connect the supplied Stereo Audio Cable to
the Audio Inputs of the Player. This cable has
WHITE and RED plugs. Connect the White plug
to the LEFT socket and the Red plug to the
Right socket. Connect the corresponding plugs
to the audio output of the camcorder etc.
Connect the YELLOW plug to the video output
of the camcorder etc. Connect the jackplug to
the Video In socket of the Player.
DVD Player Settings: Set the Player to
INPUT mode using the INPUT/OUTPUT
button on the player control paneL.
Camcorder, etc: Set the device to PLAY mode
to view and listen. You can also connect a MP3
player etc. via the audio cable only.
BASIC AUDIO CONNECTION
ADVANCED AUDIO CONNECTION
Connect the supplied Stereo Audio Cable to
the Audio Inputs of the TV set. This cable has
WHITE and RED plugs. Connect the White plug
to the LEFT socket and the Red plug to the
Right socket.
Connect the supplied Special Cable to the
Digital Co-axial Input of your A/V processor.
This is the cable with the YELLOW and
ORANGE plugs. Connect the ORANGE plug
ONLY. This connection will give you access to
Dolby Digital and DTS multi-channel sound.
You will still need to connect a TV monitor via
the composite video connection!
Alternatively you may use the player screen.

CHANGING THE AUDIO SETTINGS OF A DVD DISC
The player allows you to select a preferred language, TV and audio format
from those included on the DVD video disc.

Important Note: The player will support Stereo, and Dolby 5.1 formats.
The player and the analogue outputs will only support 2 channel stereo
encoding. (The analogue outputs will also support matrixed encodings)

The digital outputs support Stereo and Dolby 5.1 encoded discs. If you
choose an Audio format not supported by the player, there will be no sound
output. In this case, change to a supported format to restore the sound.
For instance nearly all DTS discs also include Dolby formats.

CHANGING THE CAMERA ANGLE
‘ON THE FLY’ ADJUSTMENTS

Although the player’s Setup menu contains the system setups of Angle,
Subtitle and Audio soundtrack selection, you may change them when a
DVD disc is playing providing the disc supports these features. The disc’s
Root menu will display the relevant information. In all cases the player
returns to the system settings when you switch off the player or replace a
disc.
During playback of a DVD disc:
Press ANGLE repeatedly to select the camera
angle. A DVD disc may contain 9 angles.

PAL AND NTSC TV FORMATS

Press P/N to cycle the choice between the PAL and NTSC formats. If
you select an incorrect format the picture may roll and distort. Change
to a supported TV format to restore normal pictures.

This switch enables you to play an external

If you press the INPUT/OUTPUT switch when a
disc is playing the disc will stop and the screen
will go blank. Press the switch again to restore
normal play.
If you switch the power off when the player is
set to INPUT when you switch on again, normal
play will be restored.

DIRECT SELECTION WITHIN A TRACK OR CHAPTER
The MENU screen displays the time of the title and chapter currently
playing. The current title length is 1:10:01 and the chapter length is
0:20:03. If you choose a different Title/Chapter these times will change.
You can play a title or a a chapter within the title from any point.

11) Stopping the Disc

The STOP button has two modes.
When a disc is paused the disc may be stopped but the laser is active. If the
disc is paused for too long the surface may burn. A special stop mode is
available which stops the laser and the disc but memorises the position.
When PLAY is next pressed the disc picks up where it left off.

To re-start the player, press STANDBY on the handset or the ON button
on the player.
When you have finished always remove the disc from the player
before switching off. If you are operating the player using the mains
adaptor, unplug the adaptor from the player and the mains.
9) To alter the volume

Press STOP twice. The message ‘Press PLAY Key
to Continue’ disappears. The disc is now stopped.
Press PLAY (ENTER or PLAY/PAUSE on the Player)
to play the disc.
Press MUTE. to toggle the sound on and off.

top of the TV screen when certain functions are executed, or when the

CHECKING THE OPERATIONAL STATUS
The ON SCREEN DISPLAY can be configured to show the current title
playing, the chapter being played and various time modes.
From the TITLE menu: Enter a number. The player will usually take you to
the start of the chapter indicated by the number you enter. If there is more
than one title on the disc, entering a number may take you to the title.
Press DISPLAY continuously to cycle the display modes. Refer to the
drawings opposite:
If you give the player an invalid instruction, this will be
ignored and the player will display the ‘NO ENTRY’ sign.

Press PLAY to select the item. A cursor appears.
Use the number keys to enter the wanted title or chapter. Enter
numbers from 1-9 as 01, 02, etc. (Example: Enter Title No. 4)

PLAYING A DVD - BASIC OPERATION
DVD players use menus and there are three principal kinds:

The TITLE shows the titles available on the DVD
disc. On many DVDs the ROOT and TITLE menus
are the same. The TITLE key accesses the DVD
disc’s TITLE menu.

LANGUAGE
The ROOT menu is the basic menu of a DVD disc
and contains all the information relating to the
DVD disc itself. This menu loads when you first
insert a disc. To access this menu at other times,
press the MENU key

The player itself has a SETUP Menu which enables you to set up the
various parameters of the player. The SETUP key enables you to set up the
player. -TV system, languages, parental controls, etc.

CHANGING THE TIME DISPLAY
1) To play an entire DVD disc from the beginning
! Press ENTER/PLAY
The Function Keys are mainly used to
navigate through Menus.

Connect the supplied power adapter to the player. Pug the mains plug
into the mains point and switch on the power.
Hold the player with one hand and open the lid with the other. The
maximum angle you can open the player is 135º. Do not try to open it
any further.
Press the catch on the CD compartment cover to open it.
Load a disc into the tray, label side up.
Align the centre of the disc with the centre of the disc guide. Press
gently on the disc to snap it into place. Close the disc cover.
Press and hold the ON button to power on the unit.
The disc will now load. Some formats take more time to load than
others as the player has to read the disc and download the Table of
Contents (TOC).
PROGRAM PLAY
Enter the time in H:MM:SS. To cancel and re-enter: Press the key.
The display reverts to total time but the disc plays from the selected time.
Press PROGRAM. The program screen will appear
You can now:
! Edit the wanted track and exit the program (see above)
! Press PROGRAM a second time. All the entries will clear and you can
re-enter and play a new program as above.

HANDSET OPERATION
CUSTOMISING THE PLAYER SETTINGS
The handset replicates virtually all
the basic player controls.
Additionally there are some
functions that can only be carried
out from the handset,
Access the SETUP menu when the player is stopped
The remote handset has a range of
6 metres. Ensure there is a clear
line of sight between the handset
and the display window located at
the front left of the player. The
operating angle should not be
greater than 30º of horizontal.
The battery compartment is a
slide out tray located at the bottom
rear of the handset. Slide out the
tray. Unwrap the supplied CR2025
battery, and place it in the tray,

When replacing the battery ensure
you use only the correct type.

The volume level can only be
adjusted via the Volume control

Disconnect the player from the power supply.
The battery attaches to the rear of the player. Line up the two lugs on the
battery with the player. Pull the pack forward until it clicks into place.

DYNAMIC manages the difference in intensity between very loud and very
soft sounds. If the player is connected to a powerful hi-fi system choose
MAX. Choose other settings accordingly.
AUDIO and DISC MENU: The main language you want the film to be in.
Normally these should be set to ENGLISH.
SUBTITLE: Normally ENGLISH. If there is a non English speaker in your
house you may want to set the subtitles to that language.
DEFAULT: Selecting RESET overrides all user settings in the SETUP menu
and reverts the player to the factory default settings.

It takes about 3-4 hours to recharge the battery.

A fully charged battery can power the unit for about 2
hours. Power consumption depends on the operating

agreement which limits playback of DVD discs to
specific regions as determined by the software
manufacturer. Most DVDs come marked with a region
coding. A disc specified as playable in one region may
not play on a player designed for a different region. A
disc specified as universal or with no region coding
(Code 0)may be played in any region.

DVD discs contain various features. Many features are
determined by the program or software content on the
DVD disc itself. Some procedures in this manual
cannot be performed if the disc does not support the
feature. Also, some discs may need special settings

CARE OF DISCS
DVD discs are fragile. Treat them with
care. Always store them upright in their
packing; away from direct sunlight,
heat and damp.
When handling discs, hold the disc's
outer edge and/or the centre spindle
hole. Do not touch the disc surface.
Never bend or flex a disc.
Clean the disc surface with a soft, dry cloth. Wipe the

disc surface gently, radially, from centre toward the
outer edge. Never apply solvents to the surface of a
disc.

Store the player and the battery securely

CARE AND CLEANING
Occasionally wipe the player with a lint free
duster. Never clean the player with liquids or
solvents.
Clean the screen from time to time with a
approved anti-static cleaner. NEVER wipe the
screen with a tissue. Use a calotherm cloth
available from opticians.
Do NOT clean the inside of the player tray with a
cloth. Lightly blow out any dust.
If your discs skip or don’t play properly, this is
more likely to be caused by surface damage or
dirt on the disc rather than any fault of the unit.
In extreme cases, however, these phenomena
could be due to dirt or dust on the lens If the CD
lens gets dusty or dirty, use a proprietary lens
cleaner and follow the instructions carefully.
BATTERY STORAGE & USE
SPECIFICATIONS
Under no circumstance should you short out the
battery, store it in a metal container, or leave it in
a humid or damp environment. Store the battery
in a plastic airtight container if possible.
Recharge effectiveness will degrade when
environmental temperatures drop below 10 ºC
or exceed 35 ºC.
CAUTION! When attaching or releasing the
battery pack, make sure the adaptor is not
plugged in either to the player or to the battery.
