InstructionsforAudioPodcasting
Whenarriveforyourscheduledclassmeetings,clip-onandturn-ontheyellow
wirelessmicrophonelocatedinthebackoftheMediaStation.Donotusethe
wiredmicrophoneattachedtothewall.Itisnotconnectedtotherecording
device.Clipthewirelessmicrophonetoyourcollarabout6inchesbelowyour
chin.Trytoclipitrightinthecenter,andnottotheside.
Therecordingprocessisautomated,andwillautomaticallystartandstop
recordingattheclass-startandclass-stoptimes,regardlessofwhenyouturn
themicrophoneonoroff,unlessyouelectedonthepodcastagreementto
extendtherecordingafewminutes.Recordingtimeswillmostcloselymatch
acellphonetime,nottheanalogclockintheclassroom,whichcanbeafew
minutesoff.Ifyoutypicallylecturepastyourclassendtime,contact
edtech@ucsd.eduandtheycanaddafewminutestoyourrecording.
Thelightontheyellowwirelessmicrophonewillbegreenwhenthebatteryis
goodandredwhenthebatteryislow.Whenthelightisredorifthebattery
dies,pleasechangethebattery.Therearenewbatteriesavailableinsidethe
MediaStation(behindtheDVD/VHScombo)andareceptacleforrecycling
usedonesontop.
Tip:Tellyourstudentstoletyouknowrightawayiftheycan’thearyourvoice
overtheroomspeakers,asthislikelymeansyourmicrophonebatteryhas
died.
Ifyoufindyourvolumeovertheclassroomspeakersistoolow,adjustthe
volumelevelusingtheblackvolumecontrolknobinsidetheMediaStation.
Thevolumelevelforyourpodcastispreset.Ifyoufindthevolumelevelof
yourpodcastrecordingsaretoolow,clipthewirelessmicrophonecloserto
yourchin.Pleasedonotadjustanysettingsonthewirelessmicrophoneitself.
Smallerclassrooms('floating'classrooms)havealternativearrangements.
Theseroomshaveeitheranover-the-earmicrophone,orapermanently
installedmicrophoneintheceilingnearthefrontoftheclassroom.These
roomsdonothaveapublicaddresssystem,soyoucannotconfirmthatyour
audioisbeingreceived.
Yourrecordingsshouldbeavailablewithin5-10minuteoftheendofyour

InstructionsforScreencasting
Whenyouarescreencasting,whateverisbeingdisplayedontheroom’s
projectorintheclassroomwillberecorded.Thismethodofscreencastingis
idealforPowerPointandKeynoteslides,stillimagesfromthelaptop,and
noteswrittenonthedocumentcamera.Screencastingiscompletely
automated,withoutavideocameraorcameraoperatorintheroom.
ManyHDMI-enabledlaptops,includingallMaclaptops,overzealouslyenable
copy-protectiononyourlaptop'svideooutput,evenwhenyouareprojecting
yourownunprotectedcontent.Topreventthis,useanHDMI-to-VGAadapter.

reducethefilesize.NormalspeedvideofromDVD/VHSorthewebwill

Toensureyourscreencastsareclearandreadablewesuggestusinga
minimumfontsizeof18pointsinyourPowerPointorKeynoteslides.If
writingnotesonadocumentcamera,writeinlarge,semi-boldprint.
