Profibus DP Slave Adapter Installation,
PanelMate Power Series
The Profibus DP Slave Adapter is a product option that provides communications
between a PanelMate Power Series unit and a Profibus network. Using the Profibus
DP Slave Adapter, the unit can connect directly to Profibus networks without
requiring any communications modules.
This Profibus DP Slave Adapter supports these Models:
• PanelMate Power Series 2000
• PanelMate Power Series 3000 (120V Models)
• PanelMate Power Series 4000
• PanelMate Power Series 5000 (120V Models)
Required Tools: Small Phillips Screwdriver (#1 or #2)
Packing List: The Profibus DP Slave Adapter is packaged and sold separately from
the unit. The Profibus DP Slave Adapter option consists of:
• Profibus DP Slave Adapter interface board
• Disposable grounding wrist strap
• 6-terminal removable connector
• This instruction sheet
Caution Observe proper procedures to guard against electrostatic discharge. Use
the disposable grounding wrist strap included with the option. Wrap one
end of the strap around your wrist and secure with the exposed adhesive.
Unroll the strap and attach it to an anti-static mat or an earth ground.

PanelMate Power Series 2000, Grayscale Display - Keypad
To install the Adapter, follow these steps:
1.
Go to the back of the unit. Remove AC power and disconnect any other
connectors.
2.
Unplug the cable attached to the Monitor Housing Assembly from the
Electronics Module Assembly. This cable connects power and the video signal
to the monitor.
Caution Observe proper procedures to guard against electrostatic discharge.
See page 1.
3.
Remove the Electronics Module Assembly.
a. Turn the inboard quarter-turn fasteners counter-clockwise.
b. Support the weight of the assembly by holding the knurled fasteners.
c. Gently pull the assembly towards you to disengage the front panel keypad
connector.
4.
Lower the assembly to clear the mounting flange (Fig. 1).

To install the Adapter, follow these steps:
1.
Go to the back of the unit. Remove AC power from the Monitor and Electronics
Module. Disconnect any other connectors.
2.
Unplug the cable attached to the Monitor Housing Assembly from the
Electronics Module Assembly. This cable connects power and the video signal
to the monitor.
Caution Observe proper procedures to guard against electrostatic discharge. See
page 1.
3.
Remove the Electronics Module Assembly.
a. Turn the inboard quarter-turn fasteners counter-clockwise.
b. Support the weight of the assembly by holding the knurled fasteners.
c. Gently pull the assembly towards you to disengage the front panel keypad
connector.
4.
Lower the assembly to clear the mounting flange (Fig. 2).

To install the Adapter, follow these steps:
1.
Go to the back of the unit. Remove AC power from the Monitor and Electronics
Module. Disconnect any other connectors.
2.

to the monitor.

3.

1) Remove the cover of the Electronics Module Assembly by removing three screws
shown in Figure 4.
b) Remove screw (1) at the rear top center of cover (2).
c) Remove two screws (3) at the front of the assembly in the lower right and left
hand corners.
d) Set the screws aside in a safe place.
2. Remove the option plate that covers the two rectangular cutouts for option ports
(4) at the rear of the unit.
a) Unfasten the option plate screw (5) and let the plate drop inside.
b) Tilt the unit and slide the plate out.
c) Save the screw (5). It will be used to secure the AcceleratI/On board.

3. Remove the ribbon cable (Fig. 5 Item 6).

4. Remove the AcceleratI/On Board from its shipping package.
5. Install the board (Fig. 6, Item 7) with the component side up and the mounting
plate (8) oriented as shown in Figure 6. Insert the right corner first and carefully
pivot the connectors around the power cables (9) located by the right card guide.
Slide the AcceleratI/On board in until it is fully seated.

6. Using screw (Fig. 4, Item 5) secure the AcceleratI/On Board by tightening the
screw on the rear of the unit.
7. Replace the ribbon cable (Fig. 5, Item 6) and make connections with all three
circuit boards.
8. Replace cover (Fig. 4, Item 2) and tighten screws (1 & 3) on the front and rear of
the unit.

9. Attach the Electronics Module Assembly.
a. Engage the front slot of Electronics Module Assembly (Fig. 1) on the
mounting flange of the Front Panel Assembly.
b.
Bring the unit up to horizontal and slide the quarter-turn fasteners into their
mounting holes on the front panel tray.
c.
Complete the assembly by turning the quarter-turn fasteners clockwise to
lock in place.
10. Connect the video/power cable from the CRT to the Electronics Module.
Remove the disposable grounding wrist strap.
11. Connect AC power and any other connectors.
12. Installation of the AcceleratI/On Board is complete.

Note In this discussion, “Left” and “Right” are defined by facing the front of the unit.
To install the AcceleratI/On Board, follow these steps:
Remove AC power at the right side of the unit.
Caution Observe proper procedures to guard against electrostatic discharge. See
page 1.
1. Remove the left side cover (Fig. 7, Item 9) of the Electronics Display Assembly.
by removing two screws (10).
a) Remove two screws on PanelMate Model 3000 (10), or one screw on
PanelMate Model 5000 (10)
b) Set the screws and cover aside in a safe place.
2. Remove the option plate that covers the two rectangular cutouts for option ports
(Figure 8, item 11) at the rear of the unit.
a) Remove the option plate mounting screw (12) and let the plate drop inside.
b) Tilt the unit and slide the plate out.
c)
Save the screw (12). It will be used to secure the AcceleratI/On Board.

1. Remove the AcceleratI/On Board from its shipping
package.
2. Install the board with the component side facing the
Front of the unit and positioned in slot 1 as shown in
Figure 9.

3. Using the option plate screw (Fig. 8, Item 12),
secure the AcceleratI/On Board by tightening the
screw on the rear of the unit.
4. Replace the ribbon cable (Fig. 9, Item 13)and
make connections with all three circuit boards.
5. Replace the cover (Fig. 7, Item 9), and tighten
screw(s) (10).
6. Connect AC power.

To install the AcceleratI/On Board, follow these steps:
1.
Go to the back of the unit. Remove AC power from the Monitor and Electronics
Module. Disconnect any other connectors.
2.
Unplug the cable attached to the Monitor Housing Assembly from the
Electronics Module Assembly. This cable connects power and the video signal
to the monitor.
Caution Observe proper procedures to guard against electrostatic discharge. See
page 1.
3.
Remove Electronics Module Assembly (Fig. 10, Item 14).
a. Turn inboard quarter-turn fasteners (15) counter-clockwise.
b. Support the weight of the assembly by holding the fasteners.
c. Gently pull the assembly towards you and lower it to clear the mounting
flange.

Remove the cover of the Electronics Module Assembly by removing three
screws (Fig. 11, item 17). Set the screws and cover aside in a safe place.

5.

a.
Remove the option plate mounting screw (19) and let the plate drop inside.
b.

Save the screw (19). It will be used to secure the AcceleratI/On Board.

6.
Remove the ribbon cable (Fig. 12, Item 20) from the
two circuit boards.
7.
Remove the AcceleratI/On Board from its shipping
package.
8.
Install the board (Fig. 13, Item 21) with the
component side facing the same direction as the
other circuit boards, and the mounting plate (22)
oriented as shown in Figure 13. Insert the right corner
first and carefully pivot the connectors around the
power cables (23) located by the right card guide.
Slide the AcceleratI/On Board in until it is fully seated.

9.
Using screw (Fig. 11, Item 19) secure the AcceleratI/On Board by tightening the
screw on the rear of the unit.
10. Replace the ribbon cable (Fig. 12) and make connections with all three circuit
boards.

11. Replace cover (Fig. 11) and tighten screws (17) on the front and rear of the unit.
12. Attach the Electronics Module Assembly.
a.

mounting flange of the Front Panel Assembly.
b.
Slide the quarter-turn fasteners into their mounting holes on the front
panel tray.
c.
Complete the assembly by turning the quarter-turn fasteners clockwise

13. Connect the video/power cable from the CRT to the Electronics Module.
Remove the disposable grounding wrist strap.
14. Connect AC power to the Monitor and Electronics Module and reconnect any
other connectors.
15. Installation of the AcceleratI/On Board is complete.
AcceleratI/On Board Connection Information
The network connector and LED status indicators are located at the option ports,
on either the rear or the side of the unit (depending upon the model).
