Taking Charge of All A/V Sources and Passing Video with Precision
In the age of high-definition media, it’s wise to consider your preferred A/V formats and existing (and future) equipment needs before
investing in your home entertainment system. You want to be prepared for the stunning visual quality of high-definition video—
especially as high-resolution flat-panel displays become ever more ubiquitous. You also want to be fully covered for any computer-based
audio and video files that you wish to play back with the enhanced experience offered by a home theater system. Look no further. The
DV-SP405 provides an affordable solution for playback of today’s video and audio media. On top of that, its High-Definition Multimedia
Interface (HDMI) gives you the perfect delivery of video sources through one convenient connection and at the same time matches the
signal resolution to your high-definition display.
HDMI Interface for Passing Video to HDTVs or A/V
Expanding Your Choice of Movie, Music and Photo
With high-definition quality (1080p) HDTVs becoming a mainstream
fixture in the home, you have the chance to bring a visual quality to
DVDs that has been previously lacking. In fact, if your display or A/V
receiver has an upscaling device, your DVDs can go all the way to HD
quality. In the case of the DV-SP405, you can pass video directly to an
HDMI-enabled HDTV or send it through your A/V receiver for
switching or upscaling before being passed to your display. Another
tangible benefit of HDMI on the DV-SP405 is that there is only one
cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled display device, which means no
unsightly cable mess and a straightforward connection process.
Any player that offers only DVD playback is selling you short. The
DV-SP405 offers you quality playback of DVD video and DualDisc, as
well as video content recorded to DVD±R/DVD±RW. Along with your
standard audio CDs, the DV-SP405 will play MP3 and WMA files
burned to CD-R and CD-RW (up to 10 hours or more on a single
disc). Also, any digital photos in JPEG format that you choose to burn
to disc can be viewed in the fuller scale of your TV display.
USB Interface for Transferring Audio and JPEG Files
DivX has developed into one of the leading formats for video
downloaded and exchanged via the internet. Its popularity stems from
its ability to compress video files and then transfer them over the
internet without any reduction in visual quality. With this technology, it’s
possible to compress a VHS tape down to 1% of its original size or a
DVD down to 10% of its original size. DivX movies can be
downloaded to your computer from a DivX video-on-demand content
provider. After burning a movie onto a disc, you can pop the disc into
the DivX-certified DV-SP405 and enjoy it on the larger screen of your
home theater or living room display.
By connecting a USB mass storage device to the slot on the front of
the DV-SP405, you can access audio files (two-channel sources, such as
MP3, WMA or MPEG-4 AAC), WMV video files and JPEG photo files.
When you connect a device to the DV-SP405, the Disc Navigator
function is displayed automatically, so you can play back your files exactly
as you would with content burned to disc. If you’re already purchasing
music online, or have your picture files stored on your computer, the
USB interface is a convenient way of transferring your files.
HD Conversion for Compatible Displays and Progressive
Scan Video Output
If you’ve already invested in an HDTV, or are planning to in the near
future, the DV-SP405 can be configured to match the resolution of your
display (1920 x 1080p, 1920 x 1080i, or 1280 x 720p). Simply access
the HDMI settings in the set-up menu to enable a direct connection. A
108 MHz/12-bit video DAC supports progressive scan—i.e. video
produced in complete frames—so you’re assured of spectacular
viewing, time after time. You can also use the DV-SP405’s component
video or HDMI to send deinterlaced 480p signals to your display.

DivX® Compatibility Enables Access to Online Video
Disc Navigator for Easy Access to Video and Audio
Disc Navigator is a system that lets you view, search and select all your
media via an intuitive on-screen display. This function can be selected
and operated using the cursor on your remote control. While playing
back DVD videos, you can select various options (such as title or
chapter), with the on-screen display showing up to six moving
thumbnail shots of the content. Disc Navigator’s also very useful when
browsing computer-based files (including WMA, MP3, MPEG-4 AAC,
DivX Video, WMV and JPEG). When these files are burned to disc, the
content is often held within multiple folders. Disc Navigator makes
browsing and selecting your content a systematic, stress-free exercise. It
even lets you play back a slideshow of JPEG photos while a WMA or
MP3 music file plays in the background.
