Introduction
Process Summary
You may need to use a peripheral device such as a laptop or iPad when
presenting in a SMART classroom. Some classrooms provide the
necessary cables; however, most do not. This self-help document will
guide you through how to connect devices to the SMART Podium and
provide information on the required cables and adaptors for the different
devices.

1.
Open the flap on the cable box. A laptop requires either a VGA cable (Fig 1) or an HDMI cable (Fig 2).
Plug the appropriate cable into the laptop and then into the vga port (Fig 3, 1) or into the HDMI port
in the cable box.
Note: Not all cable boxes have HDMI ports.

Push the SOURCE button on the Crestron. A variety of different options will appear on the Crestron
screen.

Touch the Laptop or Auxiliary button on the Crestron screen itself under Left or Single Image.
4.
Your image may not automatically show up through the projector. Below are c ommon brand laptop
and projector image toggle function keys. Press this keyboard combination on your laptop and the
image will show up on the screen. (You may need to contact the manufacturer of your peripheral
device for the correct keyboard combination).

DELL – Fn+F8

HP – Fn+F4

Toshiba – Fn+F5

Gateway – Fn+F4

IBM – Fn+F7

MAC – Fn+F7

Connecting an iOS Device (iPad)
1.
Open the flap on the cable box. An iOS device requires one of the following adaptors:

VGA to iPad (30-pin) (Fig 4)
HDMI to iPad (30-pin)
Lightning to VGA (9-pin)
Lightning to HDMI (9-pin)
Note: Lightning devices carry video signals only and no audio. A separate 3.5 mm audi o cable would be
needed.
