ABOUT YOUR GRABBA
This quick start guide is a brief introduction to your Grabba
attachment, a detailed installation guide for the Grabba driver and
demonstration application is available at
www.grabba.com/support/downloads.
Your Grabba can have a mixture of different capture technologies
which enhances your Apple device. It can now be used to
accurately and efficiently carry out virtually any task required by
the mobile worker. There is also an inbuilt battery that supplies all
the Grabba’s power needs regardless of which technologies you
have included in your Grabba.

FOR APPLE
Here are some tips to get the most out of your Grabba attachment:
• T o connect, plug the Apple device into the Grabba and press
one of the Grabba trigger buttons. This will allow the Grabba
and the Apple device to connect.

Q-SERIES
• Be sure to keep the Grabba charged between user sessions. Be
sure to charge it at the end of the day.
• The Grabba and the Apple device can be charged together
(whilst the Apple device is docked in the Grabba). Simply connect
the Grabba DC charger to the Grabba charge socket and both
devices will charge.

INSTALL THROUGH YOUR MOBILE APPLE DEVICE

• Try charging the Grabba for at least 30 minutes.
• Restart the Apple device
• Ensure the Apple device has the Grabba - enabled applications
installed.
• To reset the Grabba, unplug the Apple device and any charge or
USB cables from the Grabba and simultaneous hold both trigger
buttons down for at least 10 seconds. The green light on front
of the Grabba should come on. When this green light comes on
release the trigger buttons to continue.
• Your Grabba has an Auto-Off feature to conserve power. If
this feature is turned on (through the Grabba driver) then the
Grabba will go to sleep after periods of inactivity. If sleep is
not enabled then you should keep the Grabba and the Apple
device disconnected when not on charge ( or in use), as this will
conserve battery power.

If you experience difficulty getting the Grabba to be detected
and recognised in the Grabba software, please try the following
troubleshooting techniques:
• The Grabba will take from 1 - 10 seconds to connect to the
handheld upon docking. To connect (or wake from sleep) press
one of the Grabba trigger buttons and the Grabba will wake up so
it can connect.

Please note that your mobile Apple device must have a valid
data connection before you install applications on it.
Open App Store.
Search for “Grabba International”.
Select the application and click the Install button.
Enter your Apple ID with password.
Some of the applications, like Grabba Browser is able to
access age-restricted material on the web. Tap OK to confirm.
Wait until you see the progress bar on top of the icon
disappear.

CONNECTIVITY
Grabba Browser is designed to integrate with
Grabba data capture,
data verification and transaction devices. It can be used as a
normal web browser as well.
The two buttons on the edge of the Grabba can be configured
easily in the Grabba Browser so it can trigger a barcode/proxcard
scan.
Once you have a Grabba with the correct technologies fitted to suit
your mobile Apple device. You can scan barcode and RFID directly
in the active field of a web page.

For the web developer, you can simply insert a few lines of
JavaScript code to direct the scanned data into specific fields on
the web page.

Start the Grabba Browser on your Apple device, wait until
you see the red status bar turns to green, which means the
application is connected to the Grabba.
Tap the “Setting” button which is located at the bottom right
corner of the application.
Scroll down until you see the “Grabba Button Actions”
section.
Configure the buttons to either “None”, “Trigger barcode” or
“Trigger proxcard”.
INSTALL THE GRCATALOG ON APPLE
This application is a data capture program which
works on barcode scanning and RFID scanning. It
is available for free in app store.
Users select the appropriate data capture tool
in the program and use it with the data capture
attachments developed by Grabba. GRCatalog is primarily used as
a testing and demonstration tool.
INSTALL THE COUNTTHAT LITE ON APPLE
CountTHAT Lite lets you quickly and easily count
anything with a barcode on it with the help of
Grabba barcode scanner. Typical uses include
Stocktaking, Stock replenishment, Serial number
capture and Asset auditing to name a few.
Once all barcodes have been scanned, the user can
then email the count as a CSV file direct from the device using the
default mail server or copy the CSV file off using iTunes when the
count is finished. This is a great simple application for stocktaking,
recording serial numbers, assets and stock ordering.
BARCODE READERS
Depending on the model of your Grabba barcode scanner, it can
be used for reading almost any barcode type, including 1D linear
codes, 2D stacked and matrix codes, OCR fonts, postal codes and
can also capture digital images.
• Optimum read range is 4-10 inches.
• For small-pitch barcodes, move scanner closer.
• Adjust angle to barcode for glossysurfaces if having trouble
reading.
• Move scanner closer or further away if having trouble
reading.
• Sometimes you may need to hold Area Imaging 2D Barcode
Scanners still while scanning.
This data can be accessed by the keyboard wedge functionality
under the Grabba Browser or through the Software
Development Kit.

RFID / CONTACTLESS / PROXIMITY READERS
Grabba Q-series supports a range of high frequency (13.56MHz)
contactless card including Mifare, ISO14443A/B and ISO15693.
• Trigger scanner with assigned trigger button.
• Place credential in close proximity to reader.
• S ome tags may need to be in contact with Grabba housing
surface.
This data can be accessed by the keyboard wedge
functionality under the Grabba Browser or through the
Software Development Kit.

To insert the iPod touch into Q-series, follow the graphical
instructions below to remove the clip out from the Q-series and
insert the Apple iPod into it.

The Grabba devices are manufactured by Grabba International at its Brisbane,
Australia facility. The Grabba devices have a 12-month warranty from the date of
purchase. Grabba International warrants and represents that all Grabba devices are
free of all defects in material, workmanship and design, and have been produced and
labelled in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and ordinances pertaining
to their production and labelling. This warranty is expressly limited to repair,
replacement of product or refund of product price at the sole discretion of Grabba
International. Equipment for repair must be returned to the Grabba International
facility in Brisbane, Australia or a Grabba authorised repair centre. To do this, contact
Grabba International’s service/ repair department to obtain a Return Authorisation
(RA) number.
CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RELATING TO DATA LOSS, SUBSEQUENT EQUIPMENT
FAILURE, AND/ OR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE ETC IS EXPRESSLY EXCLUDED FROM THIS
WARRANTY AND GRABBA INT. ACCEPTS NO LIABILITY FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE
INCURRED WHAT-SOEVER.
In the event that it is determined the equipment failure is covered under this
warranty, Grabba International shall, at its sole discretion, repair the product or
replace the product with a functionally equivalent unit and return such repaired or
replaced product without charge for service or return freight, whether distributor,
dealer, or retail consumer. This limited warranty does not extend to any product
which, in the sole judgment of Grabba International, has been subjected to abuse,
misuse, neglect, improper installation, accidental damage, nor any damage due to use
or misuse produced from integration of the product into any mechanical, electrical
or computer system. The warranty may be void if the case of the product is opened
by anyone other than Grabba International’s repair department or authorised repair
centres.
