The R208W Managed Ring
Switch is the ideal solution for
redundant systems. The Fast
Re-configuration of Networks
Topology (FRNT) concept of
Weed Instrument eliminates
failures caused by network links
and/or switches. It offers ultra
fast ring re-configuration (30ms)
of the network topology and both
fault contact and SNMP to provide
notification of the ring failure.

(redundant connections between
two rings).
State-of-the-art real time
properties are provided by using
QoS techniques driven by the
VoIP business, i.e. real time
critical data can either be
protected by using layer 2 (IEEE
802.1p) or layer 3 (IP ToS)
priority. Worst case switch
latency can be guaranteed for
high priority packets regardless
of low priority traffic. Head of line
blocking prevention is also
supported.
The ring is managed by one of
the switches (user configured),
referred to as the Focal Point
(or the Root Switch). The other
switches in the ring are called
member switches. Configuration
of the switches is easy and is
done by the user in the Windows
based IP Configuration tool. Any
of the Ethernet ports can be
used. Thus, no serial port is
required for setting the IP
address or any other
configuration parameter on the
R208W switch. This means that
the R208W can be mounted and
installed prior to configuration.

Flexible Port Combinations: The R208
Series offers full flexibility regarding port combinations. Copper (TX), Multi-mode fiber and/or
Single mode fiber can be mixed in the same
switch. Standard combinations are:

Choose your Fiber Combination: Both types
of transceivers are supported giving a range of
2 km (1mile), 15 km (9 miles) or 40 km (25
miles). SC and ST connectors are available for
2 ports (port 7 and 8) only.
Multiple Standard Options: Practically any
fiber and copper combination is possible, saving
the need for media converters. Examples:
