1. Prerequisites of the operating system
Make sure that the firewall of the PC is turned off, since the RASS-R makes use of a lot of
socket connections (TCP/UDP).
Make sure that the regional settings are as follows for correct time representation in different
RASS-R modules:
Figure 1-1: Regional settings
*
*
Don’t forget to apply the settings to the user accounts as in the right image.
Before you start the installation of a new RASS-R (see chapter 3), make sure you
uninstall the previous RASS-R version. Otherwise, for every installation, you will end up
with “Modify, repair or remove an installation” as in chapter 4.1.

2. Installation DVD
When you open the installation DVD in for example Windows Explorer, you will see a
similar file structure as in the figure below.
Figure 2-1: Content of the RASS-R installation DVD
If the “Auto Play Mode” is enabled, the installation will be started automatically. If not, you
can start the installation by double clicking the IE_INSTALLER.exe file.
When the general installation starts, it will continue in the following way:
•
First it installs “prerequisites”, i.e. software programs that are necessary to run the
RASS-R afterwards (installers are located in the “prerequisites” directory).
•
Then it installs all RASS-R products individually (installers are located in the
“products” directory).
Afterwards, the customer has the possibility to install some post installation files,
located in the directory “postinstall”. This folder includes for example “aspi32.exe”,
which is the driver for an ADAPTEC SCSI card.
•
Chapter 3 describes an installation which starts from the IE_INSTALLER.exe. In chapter 4
you can read about some individual product installations.
*
Read carefully the ‘RASS-R Releases Notes’, which can be found in the “Release
Notes” directory.

3. General installer
3.1
Choose prerequisites and products
When the general installer loads, you will see the following dialog:
Figure 3-1: RASS-R Setup Wizard
First of all, the RASS-R Installer wants to install prerequisites. Select the prerequisites you
want to install
Figure 3-2: Prerequisites Select
*
“visa410runtime.exe” and “WinPcap_3_1.exe” can also be found in the
“prerequisites” folder. Though, for reasons of End User License Agreement, they cannot

be displayed in the Prerequisite installation as in the figure above. For correct working of
the serial port of the computer and the PcapInput/Output module in the DHM, the user
has to install respectively visa410runtime.exe and WinPcap_3_1.exe themselves.
Then, you will have an overview of all individual installers. You can select the applications
you want to install:

Then press the “Install” button to start the installation.

options to proceed will be displayed:

Prerequisites installation (example DirectX)
As an example of a prerequisite installation, we describe the DirectX installation (which is
necessary to run the MRD3.) Other prerequisites installations are similar.
Figure 3-7: DirectX Install
Figure 3-8: DirectX install prompt
Figure 3-9: DirectX finish install
Remark: there is currently a limitation in the DirectX: during a next install, it will suggest to
install this prerequisite again because it cannot correctly detect that the DirectX was already
installed on the computer or not.

Product installation (toolbox)
The first product that will be installed (if selected ofcourse), is the RASS-R toolbox.

and color settings) and the C:\Program Files\Intersoft Electronics\RASS\RASSR\MRD\UserPrefs\default.ini file (saving the different layers with their setup) are
overwritten. If you want to keep these, make a copy of them and paste back after
installation.

Modify, repair or remove an installation
When the installation of one of the RASS-R items is already done, you can change the
RASS-R features on your computer or even remove the RASS-R items. This can be initiated
by loading the general installer or individual installer again.
*
A repair is very useful if for example a default configuration is changed, or if any
file or registry key is corrupt or missing.

5. Manuals
Upon completion, the user manuals are located in the following directory
You can always keep them up to date by checking our ftp-server or website regularly!

6. Registration of licenses
6.1
General
Initially all the selected RASS-R modules are installed and can be used with full
functionality. Because the RASS-R software is a modular product you need to register the
purchased modules in order to remove the reminder ‘Software NOT registered! Use for
demonstration only!’ from the modules display.
6.2
Registration procedure
In the root of your RASS-R installation partition C:\, you’ll find the licence request files
(xxxxx_licence_request.txt) files where ‘xxxx’ stands for the RASS-R module name (e.g.
RC_licence_request.txt)
*
These files are only generated when the particular RASS-R module is opened a first
time.
E-mail the licence_request.txt files that you want to register to
support@intersoft-electronics.com
We will check if you are entitled to register those modules and send you back the
corresponding registration files (xxxx_licence.reg).
These files have to be copied to the root of your RASS-R installation partition C:\.
Double click the registration files to add them into the Windows Registry.
Then, respond to the dialog windows:
Figure 6-1: Add the registry key
Figure 6-2: Adding successful
