Configuring Microsoft Windows 7 for Eduroam @ Salford.
Introduction
The following steps show how to correctly configure the Eduroam Service on a Windows 7 PC to allow
you to connect to the University Of Salford.
Configuration Steps
1. Click the Wi-Fi Icon on the Notification area near the bottom right of the desktop and click
“Open Network and Sharing Center”
2. When the Network and Sharing Center window opens, click on “Manage Wireless Networks”
Then click on “Add” on the toolbar to start the wizard
3. When the “Manually connect to a wireless network wizard opens, click on “Manually create a
network profile”
4. Configure the next screen as shown below:
5. Click Next to create the profile and then click on “Change connection settings”
6. Ensure the connection tab looks like this:
7. Click the Security tab and uncheck “Remember my credentials for this connection each time I’m
logged on”
8. Click on the settings button next to “Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)” and enter the
information shown below. If the “AddTrust External CA Root” certificate is not listed, it can be
downloaded from the ITS Website.
9. Click Configure and uncheck the option for using your domain logon name. If this is checked you
will NOT be able to authenticate with the Eduroam service.
10. Click OK back to this dialog:
11. Now click on the “Advanced settings” button.
12. On the next dialog, enable “Specify Authentication Method” and choose “User Authentication”
13. Then click on the “802.11 settings” tab and uncheck “Enable Pairwise Master Key (PMK) caching
14. Click “OK” and “Close” until all dialogs are closed
15. The Eduroam network is now configured for Windows 7 and will show in list of available
networks.
Connecting to Eduroam
Now that we have configured the correct authentication requirements, we should be ready to connect
to Eduroam.
Click on the Wi-Fi icon on the Notification area and then on Eduroam:
You should be prompted for your userid and password:
IMPORTANT: You must enter it in the format shown above replacing “USERID” your University Domain
username (eg STS123)
You should now be connected to Eduroam.
If you have any issues in connecting to Eduroam then you should contact the IT Service Desk.
