D2L Capture: Local Installation / Recording and Publishing (Click the link above to jump to that section in the guide) Local Installation: Download and save the current D2L Capture release software by visiting the following URL: http://dl.captual.com/capture/Capture_Installer_22.214.171.12431.6a2ac.exe. Choose “Save File” – your Internet browser will notify you upon download completion (varies by browser; note: Firefox is being used here). Once the download has completed, run the installer. Accept the User Account Control prompt to install the Capture software. Continue to follow the prompts during the installation. Upon completion, you will see the following confirmation screen: There will also be a Capture shortcut created on your desktop. Click “Finish” and Capture will launch. Click “Options” and verify the server address. It should be http://hosting2.desire2learncapture.com/polkstate/1.aspx Click the X in the upper right corner of the window to close out the Options window. D2L Capture: Recording and Publishing: If the Capture software is currently open you will see the following screen: If the Capture software is not currently open, double click the Capture shortcut located on your desktop: Click “Log In” on the Capture home screen: Click “Open Login Page.” This will open the PAL login screen as your user access to Capture is authenticated through your PAL login. Login to PAL. You will see a warning about Capture trying to access your information. Select the check box and click “Continue.” You will now be logged in and returned to the Capture home screen. Click “Record.” Enter a Title for your recording, your first and last name for Presenter, and choose your recording Layout. Camera and Screen: This option allows you to record yourself (via webcam/or other camera input device attached to your computer) and your computer screen at the same time. Camera: This option will only record via webcam / or other camera input device attached to your computer. Screen: This option will only record your primary screen (if you have more than one monitor). Click “Continue” to open the recording interface. The recording interface will display a video image preview of what the camera will be recording. You will also see an audio level meter to the right of the video preview indicating that your microphone is working. When you are ready to begin recording, press the “Start” button. When you have completed your recording, press the “Stop” button. If you wish to start over, press the green play arrow – you will be prompted that this will delete your current recording and prompted to confirm this selection. If you are happy with your recording press the “Finish” button. You will be taken to the Capture home screen. Click “Publish” and the upload settings screen will appear. You can edit the Title and Presenter information as well as select the Folder to which your presentation will be saved. Please be certain to always select and save only to the folder that was specifically created for you by the Instructional Technology department. This will help keep your videos organized and easy to find when you need them. You can preview your recording prior to uploading or delete it from this screen as well. When you are ready to upload your recording, press the “Publish” button. Please note: Publishing does not make your recording visible. It simply uploads the file to the server. Once it is uploaded to the server, you can then choose to make it available for viewing. This process may take up to 10 minutes or longer depending upon the length of the recording. Upon completion, you may view the recording in Capture Portal (an interface similar to YouTube) by clicking “View in Portal” or click “OK” to begin the cleanup process and click “Yes” in the following window. Once you click “Yes,” you will see the following screen indicating there are no presentations left to publish. Click “OK,” and you will return to the Capture home screen.
