1. Software upgrade source
Device's firmware upgrade procedure assumes that firmware file will be accessible
through one of the supported sources:



Micro SD card,
Pendrive,
Ethernet port.
1.1. Micro SD card
In case of using micro SD card, the hlcode.dnl file has to be written in the root folder of the
card. Supported file system is FAT32.
1.2. Pendrive
In case of using pendrive, the hlcode.dnl file has to be written in the root folder of the
pendrive. USB OTG cable is required to connect pendrive to the micro USB port of the Video
Grabber. Supported file system is FAT32.
1.3. Ethernet
It is possible to use first Ethernet (LAN 1) port of the Video Grabber to upgrade firmware. In
such case, the hlcode.dnl file has to be written in the root folder of the TFTP server, which
should be accessible at 192.168.5.1 IP address.
Tftpd32 by Ph. Jounin can be used on Windows (http://tftpd32.jounin.net) which can be
configured as TFTP server. Following steps are required to adjust default settings:

change IP of the one of the network interfaces to 192.168.5.1,

click on the Browse button to change Current Directory to the one that contains
hlcode.dnl file,
choose 192.168.5.1 network interface form the Server interfaces combo box,

click on the Settings button, and select TFTP Server on the GLOBAL tab,

switch to the TFTP tab and set:
o TFTP Security to Read Only,
o Timeout to 3,
o Max Retransmit to 6,
o Tftp port to 69,
o Option negotiation checked,
o Click OK to save settings - TFTP server is now ready to serve firmware upgrades.

2. Upgrade procedure
To upgrade firmware, the device has to be in upgrade mode instead of normal mode.
2.1. Switching device to upgrade mode
Following sequence will switch device into upgrade mode:









switch off the Video Grabber (unplug the power connectors),
provide one of the supported upgrade sources (micro SD card, pendrive or TFTP server),
switch on the Video Grabber (connect device to the power source),
Wait until the Multisoft logo is visible on the screen and push the reset button before
the logo disappears for one second. The power source can be disconnected instead of
pushing reset button,
repeat the previous step two more times,
device is in the upgrade mode and will search for a hlcode.dnl file,
a progress bar will be displayed while upgrading,
do not switch off the device or disconnect the software upgrade source,
Video Grabber will automatically restart when updating has finished.
2.2. Upgrade using Video Grabber GUI.
In order to upgrade Video Grabber using Web Based, Graphical User Interface, please login to Video
Grabber using your favorite Web Browser. To do this, please type http://video.grabber.ip.address
where video.grabber.ip.address - is IP Address which is displayed on the screen in front of the device.

After successful connection, Video Grabber status screen will appear in Web Browser Window.

In order to start Video Grabber firmware update procedure, log-in into the device is necessary. Force
firmware update button is located in lower section of device Configuration tab. Access to this section,
because of security reason, is password protected. When dialog box appear, please using following
credentials to login into device and obtain access to device Configuration Tab:
Username:
Password:
grabber
vgbr2014
After successfully login, device configuration will be displayed in Web Browser as shown on figure
below.

After pressing Force firmware update button (marked with red rectangle on the figure above) device
will restart, and automatically initiate firmware update procedure.

3. Downgrade procedure
It is possible to downgrade firmware to previous versions, but because of security reasons it
requires a special hlcode.dnl file which will reset the version counter in loader and will allow
to downgrade to the specific previous version. The downgrade procedure consists of two
phases:


install reset version counter hlcode.dnl using the upgrade procedure mentioned earlier,
Install previous firmware using the upgrade procedure
NOTICE: After resetting using special hlcode.dnl file, there is no access to Video Grabber GUI. Device
must be upgraded using Section 2.1. Switching device to upgrade mode.
