STEP 2: Quick Setup Guide for T1002 These instructions should be read and understood fully before installation and should be kept for future reference. 1 Model Number: PE 200AV T1002 (referred to as the Powerline Socket) WHAT’S IN THE BOX Powerline Socket with snap-on front fascia, 2 screws (clipped to the back), matching spacer (for shallower back boxes), plastic fascia removal tool, PE Quick Install Guide and PE Quick Setup Guide (this guide). Please ensure that the instructions and safety information provided in the Power Ethernet Quick Install Guide have been followed. Once the products are installed, setting up the network is very easy. 2 SETTING UP A NETWORK FOR THE FIRST TIME: The products are designed to automatically connect together to form a single meshed network secured with 128bit AES encryption. Each product comes with 4 Ethernet ports and once installed, the Ethernet ports on all of the Powerline Sockets will automatically link together. 1. Connect a laptop, PC, printer, VoIP handset or game console using a CAT5 cable to any Ethernet port on one of the Powerline Sockets. 2. Connect the other Ethernet devices to the other Powerline Sockets using CAT5 cables. 3. To share Internet access among all these devices, simply connect the Internet router to any one of the products using a CAT5 cable. That simple! Now enjoy a fast secure network with Internet connectivity everywhere a Powerline Socket has been installed. NOTE: Whenever there is an active Ethernet connection, the Network Activity light on that Powerline Socket will light up, the Socket will wake up (Power light goes green) and it will connect with other Powerline Sockets. NOTE: Two or more Powerline Sockets are required in order to create a Powerline network. The Powerline Sockets must be electrically connected sharing the same power phase in order for Powerline Sockets to provide a network connection between them. EXPANDING THE POWER ETHERNET NETWORK. To expand the network, install as many Powerline Sockets as needed (up to 64 sockets on a single phase) and they will automatically connect together as soon as they are powered on. 3 NEED MORE HELP? All documentation, software and FAQs can be found online at http://help.powerethernet.com LIGHTS Power In more complex installations, including multiple electrical phases, and for troubleshooting tips and the Windows management software, please consult the PE User Manual which can be downloaded from http://help.powerethernet.com PRODUCT INFORMATION The sticker below shows the Serial Number and Device Password for this Powerline Socket (a spare sticker is included in the envelope). It is recommended to record the installation location of the socket and keep this information safe as it is used by the optional Windows management software. The Serial Number may be required when requesting technical support. Thank you for purchasing your Powerline Sockets. Unit leaves the current Powerline network and generates a random Network Password. ENCRYTPION PASSWORD When Powerline Sockets are paired together, they automatically encrypt all Powerline communications with 128 bit AES encryption. The default Network Password for all Powerline Sockets is set to HomePlugAV To further secure the network, the Network Password can be changed using the optional Windows software which can be downloaded from http://help.powerethernet.com INTEGRATED ELECTRICAL SOCKET The Powerline Sockets are equipped with a standard UK power socket which has a built in mains filter to help eliminate any electrical noise generated by devices plugged directly into it. Electrical noise on the mains cables affects the amount of available bandwidth and therefore it is highly recommended to plug any such electrically noisy devices (including transformers and mobile phone chargers) directly into the Powerline Socket because the built in filter will help reduce this electrical noise which may significantly improve the data transmission speeds across the Powerline network. SLEEP MODE The Powerline Socket automatically goes into sleep mode when there is no active Ethernet connection. When in sleep mode, the Power light is a solid red colour. The Powerline Socket automatically wakes up when the device connected to it via an Ethernet cable is powered up. HIBERNATION When not in use for an extended period, a Powerline Socket can be put into a deep hibernation mode which dramatically reduces its power consumption. Press and hold the Reset button for more than 10 seconds and the Power light will go a solid red colour. A short press on the Reset button (R) will exit hibernation. Whenever the Reset button is pressed, the Powerline Socket will stay awake for at least the next 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes, the Powerline Socket will go to sleep if there is no active Ethernet connection. NOTE: It can take a couple of seconds to exit sleep mode and connect to other Powerline devices. The lights on the front of the Powerline Socket will show the current status as explained overleaf. ADVANCED FUNCTIONALITY The product has a built in 4 port managed switch which provides Quality of Service (QoS) and advanced networking functionality. Using the optional PE Management Software (PEMS), you can: See the performance of each Powerline Socket (the Device Password is required to access remote Powerline Sockets). Check the number of Powerline Sockets (and other HomePlug compatible devices) that are visible on the network. Change the default Network Password to prevent additional Powerline Sockets from automatically joining the network. If required, the network can be segmented into different networks by setting different Network Passwords per set of products (Note: two or more devices must share the same Network Password in order to create a network.) Further information can be found in the PE User Manual including tips and techniques for larger or more complex installations, creating networks across multiple electrical phases, troubleshooting tips and details of the optional management software. The PE User Manual can be downloaded from http://help.powerethernet.com HOMEPLUG COMPATIBLE The Powerline Socket is compatible with the HomePlug AV standard. If there are any other Powerline devices plugged in that are not HomePlug AV compatible, then they will stop the Powerline network from working properly. Always unplug Powerline adapters whilst setting up the Power Ethernet network and test the network is working correctly before adding Powerline adapters. TIP: The Network Password can be changed using the software as described in the PE User Manual. Providing a secure password will prevent other Powerline Sockets (and HomePlug AV compatible adapters) from automatically joining the Powerline network. NEED MORE HELP?
