Laptop Cart Usage Guidelines • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • The teacher who checks out the cart is responsible for the cart and the laptops in the cart. The laptop cart student usage chart must be completed for each use of the laptop cart. All carts and laptops are numbered. Assign students in your classes the same laptop number which they will always use regardless of which cart you happen to have. This will help us track any damage or misuse that may occur. If for some reason a student’s usual laptop is out of the cart for service, you may substitute with another until it is returned. Every laptop must be used within a 30 day window or the laptop will cease to operate due to a licensing requirement, rendering the laptop unusable until it is renewed. To avoid this, please assign your 1st, 3rd, 5th period classes numbers from 1-32 and your 2nd, 4th, 7th period classes numbers from 32-1. This will help ensure that every laptop is used within the 30 day window imposed by our licensing server. Remind students to never pickup the laptop by the screen. They should always be handled by the keyboard base. NO FOOD, DRINK, LIQUIDS around the laptops. Remind students to NOT touch the screen with anything. The laptops are to be examined for broken screens and missing or popped off keys before they are returned to the cart. Laptops should be returned to the cart when not in use to avoid accidental damage. Once they have been inspected, they are to be placed in the appropriately labeled slot. The teacher is to handle all connecting/disconnecting of power connectors to avoid damage to the cables. It works best if the 2 computers in the same slot can be returned together. If not, make sure that the power cord for the other laptop is still accessible. The laptop on the left needs to be battery up and plugged in with the cable on the left and the one on the right battery down and plugged in with the cable on the right. Make sure the laptops are pushed all the way into the slot until they stop or the door will hit and break the power cords when you try to close it. The laptops should be plugged in during lunch and at the end of the day. If there are any issues such as physical damage, this should be noted immediately and reported to the building technology technician. You should not expect the wireless laptops to perform at the same speed of our wired labs. Wireless technology is simply not as fast. The laptops are to be used for educational purposes only! Please take care of these units. They are very expensive to replace and are expected to last for 5 years. The wireless is enabled if the tower is illuminated at the bottom left of the mini. If the tower is not illuminated, on the keyboard press and hold the FN key, then press the F6 key, then release both keys. This should make the tower illuminate. If after performing these steps your issue is not resolved please contact the technician for your building. • H Drive is missing or not working If the H drive is missing or has a red x on it, check the above steps about making sure the wireless is enabled, then restart the computer. If after performing these steps your issue is not resolved please contact the technician for your building. • Screen is dim If the screen is dim, press and hold the FN key, then press the up arrow key repeatedly, then release both keys. This should return the screen to full brightness. If after performing these steps your issue is not resolved please contact the technician for your building. • Screen is turned sideways or upside down If the screen has been turned to display sideways or upside down, press and hold the alt and ctrl keys, then press the up arrow key, then release all keys.
