Introduction
Thank you very much for purchasing the RediRad™ model AM/P
from Brew City Engineering. Please read this manual before use.
The RediRad™ model AM/P is intended for use with any vehicle
having a positive-ground electrical system and a functional AM radio
and speaker. It will operate on either 6 or 12 volt charging systems.
In most cases, it will take a person with average mechanical and
electrical skills about 30 minutes to install. If you feel that installing
a RediRad™ yourself is beyond your abilities, please get assistance
from a friend or have it installed by a pro.
Once installed, you control the soundtrack of every drive and can
finally enjoy music favorites from almost any portable music device.
As the inventor of the RediRad™, your satisfaction means everything
to me. If you have RediRad™ related questions involving installation
or its usage, please call me. My direct number is 262 646 3363.
The open road is calling. Are you Redi?
Respectfully,
~Matthew Planning

Install Your RediRad™
Disconnect the positive cable from the battery BEFORE YOU BEGIN.
Remember to install your RediRad™ and related wiring in a way that
will NOT obstruct or interfere with normal operation the accelerator,
brake and/or clutch pedals.
For vehicles without a fuse panel, fit the
ring lug adapter to the RED wire.
Connect the RED wire
to chassis GROUND.

«A
If your vehicle has a fuse panel,
replace the ring lug on the BLACK
wire with the enclosed spade
terminal and connect it to
KEY-ON-HOT power.
Fit the enclosed fuse sleeve if the
fuse panel lacks an accessory tab.
Regardless of whether your Freedom
Machine has a fuse panel, connect the
black power lead to a “key-on-hot”
electrical connection so as not to
discharge the battery when not in use.
Next, unplug the vehicle's antenna cable from the radio. Inspect the
antenna cable for visible damage or corrosion (for future reference).
Insert the RediRad™ male plug into your radio's antenna cable socket.
Plug the vehicle's antenna cable into the RediRad™ antenna cable jack.
Rediscover Your Radio!
Plug the audio cable into the
audio device's HEADPHONE
(or LINE OUT) jack.
VERY IMPORTANT POINTS:
1 - Keep the audio plug
CAPPED when not in use.
2 - Operate your external
audio source on its internal
battery. DO NOT connect the 4 :
cigarette lighter power plug
to your source because it is
NOT designed for positive-
ground electrics.
Set the VOLUME level
to 50% of maximum.
Although the pictures above illustrate using a CD player, RediRad™
is compatible with virtually any portable music source, satellite radio
equipment or so-called smart-phone with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Press PLAY.
Your RediRad™
will detect the
audio automatically.
Turn the radio on and tune
to it to “107 (1000 kHz)
on the AM band.
Program this into the radio
and use that pushbutton
every time you use your
RediRad™.
Given the preset button’s
mechanical nature, the
radio may need fine-tuning.

Vehicle Electrical System Checklist
Check the following if undesirable performance is encountered:
Frail, inadequate or missing ground straps (that electrically connect
the body, frame and other areas of the car to the ground terminal
of the vehicle's battery), especially fiberglass-bodied cars.
Weak or missing “condensers” on the ignition, charging or radio circuits.
Weak radio internals including noisy/crackly volume control, loud audible
“hum”, poor reception of strong local radio signals - consider having the
radio restored electrically (makes a world of difference!).
Sun-baked, ripped speaker cones and/or dirty voice coils - consider
having the speaker(s) re-coned (also makes a world of difference!).
Corroded (often green!) electrical connections in one or more locations
on the vehicle - this is a crude rectifier that can add lots of noise.
Weak or blown alternator diode(s) - AC riding on the DC lines adds noise.
...ALL of these things matter.
Don't neglect the electrical stuff!
Other important stuff to know ...
Again, it is critically important that you keep the RediRad™ and its cables
out of the way of your vehicle's accelerator, brake or clutch pedals.
If you have difficulty installing or using your RediRad™, we will do what we
can to help. But before you contact us, keep in mind that the RediRad™
operates properly with a healthy vehicle electrical system.
Like your RediRad™, radios with mechanical tuners are analog circuits and
may drift off frequency after warm-up. This is normal. If this happens simply
fine-tune your radio slightly for the clearest signal.
Remember to set your source volume to 50% as a starting point. If your
music sounds distorted, simply lower the portable music player volume until
it is clear. If you lower it too far and your RediRad™ unintentionally changes
back to the radio either during or between songs, increase the portable
source volume slightly. Adjust as needed.
Your RediRad™ will automatically return to normal AM reception within
60 seconds after turning off your portable music player.
Hey, what are those two switches for?
The LEFT switch controls the detection mode. Switch it to the right for
automatic signal detection or switch it to the left to keep in RediRad™ mode.
The RIGHT switch controls audio gain. Switch it to the right for higher audio
gain (and a louder signal). Switch it to the left if your portable source’s
audio output is non-adjustable (and signal distortion is observed).
Both switches to the right provides best results in most installations.
