Manual for installing and configuring
MyWorkspace
Linux
You can access MyWorkspace using myworkspace.wur.nl. Here, you can
access the same files on your network drive (among others) as you
normally would when you are logged in to a computer at Wageningen
University & Research.
It is useful to install the program VMware Horizon Client on the
computer the first time you launch myworkspace.wur.nl. This manual
explains how you can install the VMware Horizon Client and how to
launch MyWorkspace from an Linux computer.

Step 1 – Downloading the software

Browse to https://workspace.wur.nl
•
Choose "Install VMware Horizon Client". You will be guided to the vmware page.

Choose VMware Horizon Client for 64-bit Linux and click on "Go to Downloads".
•
Select "Download" and save the file in your Downloads directory.
Step 2 – Installing the software

Open a terminal and become root with the following command:
sudo su -
•
Because the horizon client needs a specific library versions, that is newer on Ubuntu 16.04, we
need to create some symlinks.
! Pay attention. Versions of library can differ if you have newer packages or other OS
cd /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
ln -sf libudev.so.1 libudev.so.0
cd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
ln -sf libgstapp-1.0.so.0 libgstapp-0.10.so.0
ln -sf libgstbase-1.0.so.0 libgstbase-0.10.so.0
ln -sf libgstreamer-1.0.so.0 libgstreamer-0.10.so.0
ln -sf libffi.so.6 libffi.so.5

Become user again with the command Exit. Go back to the directory where you downloaded the
Horizon client and install it. Replace the x.x.x-xxxx with the version you just downloaded.
cd ~/Downloads
sudo chmod +x VMware-Horizon-Client-x.x.x-xxxxxx.x64.bundle
sudo ./VMware-Horizon-Client-x.x.x-xxxxxxx.x64.bundle --eulas-agreed

Type yes on each feature request to verify what you want to enable:

Smart Card(The Smart Card component enables Smart Card device

Virtual Printing(The Virtual Printing component allows you to use
local or network printers from a remote desktop without requiring that
additional print drivers be installed in the remote desktop.) [yes]:

Step 3 – Configuring the client
•
You can acces the VMware Horizon client in your GUI.
•
When it starts you can add a new server. Click on Add Server
•
Fill in workspace.wur.nl
•
Fill in your credentials.
•
You now have access to WUR Virtual client.
